$23,000 toilet? Was it built by NASA, by any chance? [face_thinking]

I'll say that there may be some cultural problems here. Especially in very small churches, where the pastor's family is an overwhelming part of the church administration and a significant part of the overall church membership. Because their finances are less likely to be handled professionally, and because the endeavor takes up so much of their life, there can be this tendency to develop a less than clear distinction between things for personal use and things for the use of the organization. The same thing can happen in small or home-based businesses. It's also not really too serious in that context, since, in the end, everything does tend to come out in the wash. Where it does become more problematic is as churches grow larger, but don't adopt their management practices to the best-standard reflective of their new size.

That's the most sympathetic commentary of general trends I can provide. The reality, too, though, is that I highly doubt what's happened here. Fueled in part by proponents of the prosperity gospel, the general American materialism is as present here as elsewhere in the country's cultural institutions.

    Let's look at the Lowe's website: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=237795-20602-11466-0&lpage=none

There's a perfectly good Kohler toilet for $261. If they went upscale and paid around $500 for a toilet it would raise a few eyebrows but would still be within the limits of sanity.

I will in rare stance, avoid posting a link to a George Carlin Stand-Up routine, however I will state my friend, you have been duped.

Or DUMPED. 23 large on a toilet is FAR and above rational human thought. You best have some TRUMP bank to back that one up.

I'll do you one better, Next time you pray to Jesus and you told him you bought the dumper, ask him how he plans to help out with the bill!! There must have been a plan, A no interest for the first year? What was your credit score? Did they over charge you? Was Jesus a co-signer on the loan? And if he were... Would not some person who had been DEAD for over 2000 years and could not present himself to the lovely loan officer at said bank not pose any kind of problem?!?!

Bottom line YOU get stuck with the bill and Jesus will be laughing and whistling through the holes in his hands.

It is an interesting fable. If mother goose told you to buy one shoe would you do it?

Senator Charles E. Grassley, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, is investigating six prominent evangelistic ministries to determine whether they have illegally used donations to finance opulent lifestyles.

Oh, so a Senator who gets paid by taxpayers who have no choice but to pay their taxes is worried about how some religious nuts are spending money voluntarily given to them?

Paying $23,000 for a toilet is ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as, oh, I don't know, sending money into a church that claims to represent THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE.

I've noticed deities seem to be really lousy money managers.

I have to imagine it's a rendering, though. It'd be amazing if that were actual footage. :(

Seeing that a black hole has never been directly observed, that's a safe bet.

Yes it is a rendering of gravitational lensing caused by a blackhole. There are many pictures of galaxies causing this phenomenon.

Not to derail the thread or anything but here is a clip of Black Holes The Ultimate Abyss which features one of the coolest spaceships ever.
