is it for the PC? Cause if it is, you should be able to find a bunch of package files that can be opened with winzip and from there find the sound files that you are looking for.
That at least is how it is done with JO and JA.

    Hope this is helpful.

I don't have Galaxies, so I don't know how you would be able to do that.

Unfortunately, Republic Commando isn't as simple as Jedi Knight and Jedi Academy. The audio files are in .uax format (i.e. Unreal Tournament format), but none of the Unreal Tournament extractors seem to work on them.

I have been working on a solution, however, that may or may not work. The Editor included in the patch has a Sound Browser ability, which can open the sound packages and display the files. It can also extract them. When i did this, however, i discovered that some of the "sounds" appear to be collections of sounds, and so they don't extract properly. One of the sounds I tried, however, did work, so my current theory is that the "collections" refer to sounds which are displayed seperately further down the list of sound files. I haven't had a chance to test this hypothesis further, but I'll post the results here when I do.

Assuming it works, the only disadvantage to doing it this way is that you can only extract the files one at a time, which can be a pain.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to do this and found my answer at the LucasArts Republic Commando forum.

Here is how you do it assuming you have the PC version.

First, after you install the game, go to the LucasArts website and download the latest patch.

The patch you install will come with a copy of the UnrealEd.exe, this is the program you need to use to extract sounds and maps, meshes, etc.

So, once the pactch is installed, go to C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Republic Commando\GameData\System and you will see the UnrealEd.exe next to your SWRepublicCommando.exe. Double click it.

Once it is done loading, this is what you do. The first thing you should when you open this program besides Tips/hints screen, is a pop-up menu with the Textures tab open. Since you want the sounds, just move over to the left and click on the sounds tab. An alternate method to get the sounds menu, in case you close the pop-up menu by mistak e is by clicking on the speaker icon at the top of the screen bunched in with the the rest of the tool shortcuts.

Once you have the sounds tab open, you will see all of the different sounds available.

There are way too many to list here, but each main category has it's own sub-category of sounds, and so on. It will take a while to just listen to all of them.

*NOTE* Just because you see a sound, doesn't mean that you can save it as a .wav file. The sounds that you can copy start with BDX or D40, not with ?BD...you will just have to find out for yourself, because I don't remember off the top of my head. Most of, if not all, sounds are available twice, just with different file names. So, if there is a file you want that starts with ?BD, keep looking cause you might find the same file but it starts with a D40 instead.

When you go to save a specific file, go to File>Export and there you can save it as .wav.

    Have fun.

Exactly. I had a chance to try that out and it works fine. The reason the ?BD (etc) files don't work is because they seem to be like little playlists of all of the sounds associated with that situation. i.e. ?BD1_DieElectricity refers to all of the sounds a battle droid would/could make if it is being shocked to death. Try it. When you double click on the file in the editor it plays the sound. With the ? files, it plays a different sound each time. All of the BD files are the sounds that the ?BD files refer to. (Note: I'm just using BD because it's the first group of files alphabetically. BD stands for Battle Droid, D07 is Delta 07, CA is Clone Advisor, etc.)

Thanks everyone for the help. Hopefully this will serve as a guide to anyone else trying to extract Sev's classic "Come out, come out, where ever you are... so I can kill you all!"

    I played the demo.

I'd buy it, if I actually possessed money these days. It was an easy enough WASD setup... it had a few hotkeys to memorize, but what game doesn't?
