Did I or did I not write a 2,000 word paper and also read like 50 issues of comics in the last 2 days. Yes. Do I recommend that no. anyway reviews of all the mainline 2020 comics up until war of the bounty hunters starts. Except for Star Wars. I only got to operation starlight there. also included a few other mini series as well Aphra 2 electric boogaloo started. This time all the crossover events. I actually don’t like crossover events because marvel unlimited makes it impossible to read. Anyway enough of my whining. Aphra is off to a good start and I mean no one makes a better team with Aphra than Sana their chemistry is just great. Also read the first 2 trades of Vader which honestly I had problems with. Why does Typho arguably the most important film person from the Amidalans get such a lame death. Ric Olie gets a better death than Typho that just doesn’t make sense narrative wise to me. Also I straight up laughed when Palpatine dumped Vader On Mustafar. It’s just far too over the top. His punishment for not bringing in Luke is far worse than his punishment for the Death Star exploding. Also I feel like this first arc is far too much of a retread of the 2015 Vader series. Oh wow they are tracking down details of Padme’s life yet again. How original. Also while I understand that it’s interesting to bring Vader to Exegol. I do not actually like that he knows about it. I wish he didn’t. We will see if the next few arcs can really bring me on board but right now this is by far the least interesting. Also started to read the bounty hunter series. Out of all the runs so far for the 2020s this is my favorite. Valance is fun to read. Plus I ****ing love the found family dynamic. And I think we might be getting that with Valance and the kid. Only time will tell. Now I want to stress I don’t hate the Vader run I just think things have been handled half hazardous so far. Out of everything single run and short mini series I have read I think this is my least favorite so far. the comic does get points for making Ochi a really fun character to read. I still cannot get over the fact that Ric Olie has a better death than Typho. Who doesn’t die on panel. It’s so ****ing stupid. Ric Olie of all people gets to say for Padme and Anakin. Really that was who you chose to present in that circumstance? Okay bounty hunters continued. Well Valance and the kid were separated so there goes my found family idea. Ah well. At least I’ll get my found family fix with the bad batch soon. Although I doubt that ends happily either. Also something I didn’t get in this arc. Why is the Ohnaka gang still called the Ohnaka gang? It doesn’t make a lick of sense. That would be like Disney still being called Disney despite Walt Disney being forcefully removed from the company. See how stupid that is. And it’s even more stupid as unlike a company a pirate gang doesn’t need branding. So why the **** are they called the Ohnaka gang without Hondo? Like a quick blurb about them being formerly the Ohnaka gang or just showing Hondo’s symbol would have made much more sense. Also really glad I read imperial cadets first. Also I think Valance is quickly becoming my favorite character. Ever maybe. Time will tell. He’s close to dethroning Fett as my favorite bounty hunter. Highlighting this because I find this incredibly funny. But if I had a nickel for every time a mercenary with a heart of gold was forced to take care of a blonde human child in the 2020s in Star Wars I would have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice. And yes because of the similarities I did give cadeliah a New Zealand accent in my head. Still think this is funny So yea as far as protagonists go for the multi arc series. I would have to say Valence has just beat out Aphra. I love our anti hero archeologist, but I love Valnce even more. Anyway next up Destiny path I did audibly laugh when Luke said he loved sand. That was very funny. I get that Lando betrayed them, but I feel like he’s still getting a bit to much **** you know what I mean. Lobot my main man! Also I love Luke’s new yellow lightsaber. It must suck to be the grand inquistor. Also I was scrolling through marvel unlimited and man they have a lot of the dark horse stuff on there. They have the whole legacy series on there. Which I have never read. Maybe one day. But I will tell you this when I finish this binge of Star Wars content. I am taking a long break from reading old Star Wars content. Over 30 issues read today. I think I am taking will only read 13 tomorrow. Yes I am trying to rush through these because I just want to be done. Don’t get me wrong I like these well I like Bounty Hunters, Aphra and the Star Wars run, but I have been doing this so long. It’s time to finish this Vader dark visions. Not much to say here a bunch of one offs. But I now know where that crazy lady comes from The legacy of the hotel that doesn’t exist anymore I honestly completely didn’t realize that the princess and the scoundrel novel took place at this hotel. I never made the connection. Man what a waste of money that was for Disney. Anyway again just like Vader dark visions there isn’t much to say about a short story collection like this. Although it is of note this is the latest we see Bossk, 4LOM and Zukkus in the timeline. The main part of the comic takes place In 35 ABY. When they flash back to the bounty hunter story they say it was a quarter of a century ago. That puts the story at 10 ABY. So basically around the time of the mandalorian. Anyway not much else to say about it. Next up I think I’ll go back to Star Wars 2020. Then after that I can finally start the war of the bounty hunters crossover. Finally see Qi’ra after all this time again edit: just blasted through Mando season 1 man I forgot how little dialogue this show has. Some issues have like ten pages worth of panels with no dialogue. anyway that’s 18 issues for today. More than enough to stay on track. See you all tomorrow. For the start of war of the bounty hunters
Okay making my way through war of the bounty hunters. About 2/3rd of the way done according to the omnibus. Thanks to a friend I can actually read it off of paper instead of digital. I always think art looks better on paper. anyway I think my favorite line from any comic ever is now Chewbacca beat his ass. Also as a crossover event while it is interesting it’s a bit to much. To much going on. like god I miss the days of Vader down when it was just two comics crossing over. Having 5 different comics cross over is just over the top. anyway back to reading.
I am reading it as it’s presented in the omnibus. Which is like 1 or two issues from BH, Aphra Star Wars, Vader and then switching g to another comic. There is a lot of overlap between each comic. Yes I think they all work individually within their own story. As in I don’t think you need to read the issues from say Vader to understand the story In Aphra. the big events that involve say Aphra from the Star Wars issue will be covered again in the Aphra comic’s next issue. So yes they work separately.
Like you’ll miss some small things, but it’s not details worth sinking several more hours of reading into if you just want to read Aphra. The only one I feel like it doesn’t work by itself is the Bounty Hunter: War of the Bounty hunters arc. I do feel like you will miss something if that’s your only way through the crossover if you read BH and the war of the bounty hunters 1-6 together that would probably be enough. But Aphra works by itself.
Anyway war of the bounty hunters finished also read the next three issues of Star Wars and Elzar Mann shows up. Well at least an imprint of him. however he says something that I don’t think I have heard anyone talk about. in the issue he says it’s been 800 years since the Jedi defeated Darth Bane and the Sith. Which implies that Darth Bane was the last Sith the Jedi knew about and killed him or at least they thought they killed him gives one a lot to ponder
While I like the EU version quite a lot, with Bane being somewhat an underdog in contrast to the Brotherhood of Darkness, the idea of him leading the Sith Empire at first is very promising.
I shouldn’t be surprised that Star Wars 2020 ties in with the high republic so much but I am. I mean issue after issue has references to it. they go to Spoiler no space for crying out loud
Wouldn't be in the least bit surprised that Yoda knows the Sith are still out there, but is keeping it to himself.
Okay I couldn’t not laugh when Holdo and Lando hooked up. Weirdest pairing I have ever seen in my life.
Okay Kanan done and dusted as well as the high republic phase 1. I forgot that half of the Kanan comic takes place in the past. also I like the high republic comics. It’s finally good to actually get to reading them.
Okay Phase 2 comics finished as well as well as Target Vader also dipped my toes into the all ages comics with Tales from the Death Star. so that just leaves me the Aphra, BH, Vader and Rogue One and Last Jedi for adult comics. then I have to finish it out with the all ages comics. I may have to slow down cause I am approaching midterms. So will prob slow down to one trade a day also by far my favorite story of the day is Tales from the Death Star. Which is funny for an anthooogy series. I usually don’t like them
Okay making my way through the post WOTBH arcs of Aphra and I am going to be very unspoilery but they are taking the character in the direction I have wanted which is really exciting. also read Terror of the Nameless. honestly for being all ages there isn’t much difference between that and the adult comics. The real difference is you won’t find severed limbs and no implied sex (which happens a lot in the Aphra comic to be fair) also I straight up thought Magna and Sana and Aphra were about to become a thruple. Maybe they are when she cleans up her act.
Kinda strange that High Republic comics don't have any sexual undertones, in sharp contrast to books.
There isn’t really anywhere for them. Sure maybe you could’ve given Keeve a love interest, but I don’t know where the room would’ve been for that edit; better idea give us a skeere love scene. They are too much of a bunch of cowards though
I mean, I really don't think we need to give every OJO character a "torn between the Order and a secret love interest" storyline, and THR protagonists are certainly very Jedi-dominated.
Anyway reading the raid on the Vermillion and I must say I do not like that Valance is taking a backseat in these issues. He’s by far the most interesting character in this series. So I hope they get back to focusing on him soon instead of the broken hand and Mourning wail. anyway cause Midterms and some projects are coming up due soon I am going down to one arc per day in comics. At least until March break. My goal is to completely done with reading canon by May 18th (graduation)
Slowing way down here cause midterms, but read bedlam on Bestine. Nice to have Valance with the crew again. He remains my favorite non show/movie NEU character.
The return of Inferno squad. That was fun to get them back into a story. also I always love learning more about characters and we learned a lot about Zuckuss these last 3 issues.
I have been slowing down to 1 or 2 issues a day to prepare for midterms. Anyway. The bounty hunters series ended very disappointingly for me. It felt very rushed. Like I think if this had another arc it would have ended much better. honestly there are far to many crossovers here. Three seperate crossover events is far too many. I don’t know why marvel thought Dark Droids was a good idea. It’s just to much and it takes away from the individual stories themselves. Valance is still one of my new favorite characters, but I think he’s gone down a bit in my estimation. He’s below Aphra I would say. the one positive and consistently great thing throughout this series? 4LOM and Zuckuss’s friendship. It was a joy to read. so yea while Crimson reign and WOTBH are great. Dark droids is definitely the worst crossover event of the new canon. while for both Aphra and Bounty Hunters it says the end for now I get the sneaking suspicion that bounty hunters won’t get a sequel. IMO if it does the way you make it a better story is trim some of the fat. A lot of it. basically refocus on Valence as the story overall started to fall apart the more valance was absent. Have Tonga as a supporting character, but that’s it. so what started as one of my favorite comic runs ended up my least liked out of all the multi arc stories. IMO this shows the importance of sticking the landing. And while I didn’t mind dark droids in Aphra BH proves that the crossover was a mistake. so please marvel I am begging you no more crossovers. You get one per run and that is it. This whole ESB-ROTJ era is made way to complicated due to these crossovers. your telling me that Crimson Dawn returned then was destroyed. Boba was on the run for weeks trying to find Han and a mad droid was trying to take over the galaxy all in the span of like 6 months? Not believable. I am getting increasing tired of the OT era. Cannot wait to be done with it. Why it doesn’t interest me as much as the sequels or the prequel era I don’t know. But I do hope whatever their next ongoing series’s are to replace BH and Aphra I hope they are set not in the OT or its immediate aftermath. you know why I think I have grown tired of the OT? Cause there have been like 400 issues around that time period and only like a couple dozen around the PT and ST. Each issue takes about 10 minutes to read which puts that at 4,000 minutes which is a long ass time. That’s the downside of binge reading. like even if you add TCW and Tales of the Jedi. I think the OT period still has more time covered in minutes of coverage if we assume 10 minute average for each issue.
