Yeah, I think Palps had high hopes for Anakin to lose it during the duel with the Count and may have even instructed the Count to get Obi-Wan out of the way first, but I doubt even he could have predicted the outcome 100%. I have to add that I was never in the Palpatine foresees everything camp. He is good at using the Force to predict a possible outcome, but it doesn't always go the way he wants it to go down. What makes Palpatine such a great villain is that he is quick to adapt to the present situation even if something goes wrong for him.

 

He seemed more shocked at the fact that Chancellor ordered Anakin to kill him. That is the impression I got I heard someone say it was his plan to get captured and get a elaborate trial from the Republic. Somehow managed to escape from all of the shifty bureaucracy that will happen from the trial. Like Sidious promised him a high position in his new order or something .

Maybe. You guys are right. He was willfully just defeated in the duel.
