Has anyone seen the Shakespeare play Much Ado About Nothing or seen the film version directed by Kenneth Branagh? There are two different couples in it that remind me of Anakin and Padme and Han and Leia respectively. The play's a sunny type of comedy but there are some pretty serious stuff in the middle of it.

    MissPadme:

I'm a bit befuddled why GL would use Sola and her girls in EpIII after totally missing their importance to AOTC... I'm sure he has a reason; I just hope it's a good one (i.e., a better reason than the lame excuses they've given for cutting the Padme's Family scenes  ).

And I can't shake the "bad feeling" that their sole purpose in EpIII may be to bite the dust in the course of hiding Padme from the Empire... Let's hope not.

    Abs

Aww. But I want a hyperbolic chamber. ;)

"This chamber rocks! It's THE single best chamber ever built! Anyone who thinks this chamber isn't the greatest is the stupid person who ever lived anywhere at any time in the history of the universe!"

I mean, imagine Vader in a hyperbolic chamber. If he's willing to say, "He is as clumsy as he is stupid" ordinarily, think of what he'd say now....

    :p

I have but I'm not to sure about the Anakin and Padme thing and Han and Leia thing. I would have to watch the movie again. ;)

I love the film version of Much Ado (Wipes drool off of face as visions of Denzel Washington springs to mind.)

I need to rewatch it though to see what you're talking about. Any excuse for that is a good one. The scenery in that film (made in either Italy or France) is gorgeous.

It was made in Italy.I'm referring to one pair played by Kate Beckinsale and some dude as the young, innocent lovers whose romance which can turn tragic pretty easily, and another couple that dislike each other at first and throw verbal barbs and have witty banter and is a funnier relationship played by Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson.

When I saw that Sola and her kids were in EIII, I had no clue why they'd be there... it occurred to me that perhaps they join Padme and Leia on Alderaan, but I'm by and large confused. Natalie's left Sydney, which would seem to point to that she and Sola don't share any scenes (of course, with current editing technology, and pickup shooting, who knows)... Hmm. If they do wind up being key figures somehow, it's going to make the family scenes cut look even more nonsensical.

Beatrice and Benedick in MAAN do remind me of Han and Leia, at least in the sense that it was a love/hate sparked banter dynamic. The other couple... Hero and whatshisname? I don't remember, but I don't recall any particular A/P vibes (not like I was looking for them at the time, though). The guy seemed a lot more distrustful of Hero than I could imagine Anakin being to Padme, too... but maybe my memory's fuzzy. It's been a couple of years since I've seen it.

And I love that there's such a large choice of A/P icons to decorate oneself with here now. :D I get the feeling I may be changing around pretty frequently, lol. ;)

I'm sure whatever George has in mind re Sola and the nieces, it'll all make sense in the end. Maybe it's Vader kicking down her door and bellowing like Mel Gibson in Ransom, "Gimmee back my son!" Who knows?

And now for something completely different!

There is an interesting site on the net at www.kabalerians.com, where you can type in almost any name to get an instant personality analysis based on it. So of course, I decided to try out the names of some of my favorite characters.

Here?s what they say about Padmé:

Your first name of Padme has given you a responsible, expressive, inspirational, and friendly personality. Expression comes naturally to you and you are rarely at a loss for words; in fact, you have to put forth effort at times to curb an over-active tongue. Self-confidence has made it easy for you to meet people and you are well-liked for your spontaneous, happy ways. You sincerely like people and do not often experience loneliness; your work and home-life are likely filled with association You enjoy music and could have a fine singing voice; however, the study could be somewhat difficult because you do not find it easy to apply yourself to concentrated study for long periods. In this respect, this name is not altogether constructive; it creates a somewhat scattering influence which makes it difficult for you to finish what you start. This name brings disappointments and emotional involvements through being too sympathetic and easily influenced.

    Then I tried Anakin:

Your name of Anakin makes you quick-minded, versatile, and very expressive. You are adaptable and creative in responding to new situations. This name has given you an interest in people and a desire for new experiences. You have the ability to create a favourable first impression, and so you could do well in the fields of sales promotion or entertainment. The use of this name creates a lack of stability in your affairs as it inclines you to procrastinate. It spoils patience and weakens your stand in matters of principle. You are inclined to do whatever is expedient in order to avoid facing issues. You could suffer bitter experiences through attracting wrong types of association and can be drawn into circumstances involving you in unwise situations.

What do you all think? Do they fit?

Pirates of the Caribbean music is so powerful.. I know it does not relate to our defenders but we went to see it for a second time last night and I bought the cd soundtrack today.. wow.. I thought it was JW but not.

Too bad our couple does not have that same happy ending!

btw.. time to either pick up or have someone pick you up your 3cpo Christmas ornament!! The SW ornaments will probably be all gone by Nov 1st.

Last year I had the worst time trying to find the AOTC Obi-Wan Hallmark ornament because I blew off buying it until December. Usually I would wait until after Christmas so I could get the ornaments half off. Then I noticed that I didn't see Obi anywhere on the shelves, so that began a wild goose chase until I managed to snag the last one from a store.

They have an AOTC Padmé ornament this year, but it won't be in stores until October.

Lex - Agreed. That would be very unfortunate :( But I don't think we'll see Vader necessarily tracking down Padme (à la probe droids on Hoth) even if she's hiding nonetheless because of the children.

MissPadme - I like your icon, it suits you :)

And now back to Civ Pro II ... doh!

PLJ.. so many thanks for posting the defenders fanfic list. I have checked out some completed stories that I did not get to see before.Rhonderoo's Destiny made me cry :( Each time the list is posted, I check out others and today was an ideal Labor day to do so between working on setting up my grade sheets, seating charts, and presentations for my classes for this week!!

what is up with so many of the faces not coming out on here?

If there's a Padme Christmas ornament, there better be an Anakin one too, so they can be together on my tree. :D I already want both the wedding edition action figures to put atop my own wedding cake one day. ;)

Those are some great pics, SlowLearner. Given his carving of the japor snippet (decent work for a nine-year-old), I'm not at all surprised Ani has artistic talent. :) It really is sweet how he thinks of Padme. Also given how stressful life at the Temple probably was at times, it makes sense that he would think about her and Naboo. [face_love]

I got the Jedi Journal from a third party vendor at Amazon.com since they were out of stock. It's a terrific item (I'm also a collector) and a bonus if you're an Anakin fan.

If you have SW Insider #70 (Darth Maul cover), check out the cartoon at the end of the mag. Anakin is ogling Padmé in a funky outfit that if you look at it another way resembles Vader's mask.

Thanks for updating the fan fic list, PLJ.

I'm more than happy to keep up w/ the list :) Reminds me that I'm horrible at keeping up w/ stories. *Cringes*

Any idea what the Padme ornament is wearing? I bet I missed one w/ her in her red (opening scenes w/ her) TPM gown, didn't I?

*sigh* That's my favorite Padme costume probably of all. I don't know why exactly but it's just so opulent looking and I love the headdress/ hairpiece - it's so ornate and the glowing globs at the hem of the dress are just so spectacularly unique.

I also love the white kabooke (sp?) one that she wears in TPM when she first talks to Palpy in private on Coruscant w/ all the dangling beads.

Of course her AOTC wardrobe is stunning as well- and thank goodness less constrictive, but I still have to say, I think I mostly loved Padme's costumes in TPM more than anything in that film. They truly showed the Old Republic at the height of it's glory, rich, opulent, and decorative. Amidala's queen costumes truly are the exact opposite of the military costumes of the Empire which are colorless, straight-lined, and dull.

Hee hee! Yeah, that would have been a great alternative career choice. Maybe he would've went to the same art school as Padme's old boyfriend, Palo. ;)

And eeeeeeek! Please don't talk about SW collectibles guys. I'm getting so tempted to go out and buy all this stuff, and I'm a recovering obsessive-compulsive-SW-stuff-collector-holic. :p

The new Padme ornament has her in an action pose, PLJ. She's wearing her Geonosis arena outfit. And yes, there was one with her red TPM gown that came out a few years ago. It was one of my many, many, many TPM merchandise purchases. LOL I think I went a tad bit crazy back in '99. I even bought a Watto magnet. [face_blush]

Hee hee- I managed to utterly restrain myself in 99- I have next to nothing that I've purchased from the PT.

Course it'll probably all be worth more than my OT stuff- but oh well. Guess I'll just have to settle for my Blue Snaggletooth [face_mischief]

Action Padme eh? Yes, because nothing celebrates the joy of the birth of Christ like Padme packing heat, and showing off her ripped abs.

    *Rolls eyes*
