Not to resurrect title speculation after the fact, but now that it's official, does anyone think that Lucas was ever considering anything else? I highly doubt that this title was a 'fan service' gesture to appease us collectively, when in reality he had something completely from out in the Outer Rim in mind. I just don't think that George cares enough about our bleating and whining to 'cave' to the pressure of fandom at the expense of his master vision. (It did seem like most people here were convinced that the obvious choice was the wrong choice...of course no one will admit that now!)

Besides, it was almost painfully obvious that this would be the title once "Attack of the Clones" was announced. It's so congruent with so many patterns that the titles collectively form. I think hoping that it would've been a totally 'shocking' title would've been like seeing four hearts on the table and going 'all in' with your 2 of diamonds and 7 of clubs. The odds ain't good, that's for sure.

Me, I always thought that Palpatine and the "Sidious" we see on Coruscant are two triplets, with the third being a Sith Master who found a way to disassociate himself with his corporeal form and could use either one as a host...whenever...he...saw...fi...heh.

I love it! I have always known it would be the title since The Phantom Menace. Maul's line "We will have Revenge" and Lucas reason or so-called reason for changing the title to Return of the Jedi, it made perfect sense. I have never understood why some people hated the last two titles or the actual films for that matter. But from what I have read so far even if this was not their first choice nobody hates this title. Hopefully that is a good sign for the movie itself...

 

Also note the ole Revenge of the Jedi logo is back with a Sithy look!

Hey dude, I didn't like the idea either. But who could've predicted they'd have put two "of the" titles in a row? It's Attack of the Clones fault. That should've been called something else so this one would have worked better.

 

I can't believe it. I just can't believe it. All the times I vemently swore that Lucas would NEVER use Revenge of the Sith... and he uses it.
Time to eat my hat.

I mean, it's a nice title, but it's not suprising. I'm somewhat dissapointed in Lucas for being so unoriginal.

It wasn't quite the title I expected...I expected a hint at the Sith but a bit more regarding Anakin in particular...

But hey, TPM and AOTC were titles that took me by surprise too...

Well, the news is out...let's see what happens today.

 

I'm very happy with the title as it is what I've wanted from the beginning. As people have mentioned before, IMO, it just fits perfectly having the last of the prequels called Revenge of the Sith and the last of saga to be called Return of the Jedi. Kind of how A New Hope fits perfectly since the Jedi were made all but extinct and the galaxy was shrouded in darkness after RotS.

If you ask me Avilos, I believe that most people don't like the Prequels because they set their expectations too high. So when they go see the films, they may be watching a good movie, only to have it bogged down because it wasn't as good as the originals.

If Revenge of the Sith isn't a creative title, then what the heck are all the other titles? Not really any more creative than that. The most creative title was probably The Phantom Menace.

 

What if the Sith were alternately called the Of-the, so that the title was

"Revenge of the Of-The."

People might get confused by titles like
Return Of-The Jedi not knowing who was returning.

Personally I knew it would be this the first time I heard it. (Pats self on back).

It makes sense:
Revenge of Palpatine as Sith
Revenge of Anakin as a new Sith
Revenge of the Sith overall against the Jedi order

as opposed to

Return of Anakin as a Jedi
Return of Luke as a newly minted Jedi
Return of the Jedi overall

 

Ray, that bit about Revenge of the Sith and comparing it to the title of Return of the Jedi makes sense. Both are films which are the 3rd in their trilogy set.

So yeah, that does make sense.


Hmm, ESB and AOTC do have the same kinda ring to it too...
