ST Rey's Lightsaber

Yellow hasn't been in any canon comics. The only canon comics we've seen that feature lightsabers are Star Wars and Darth Vader (where it's just Luke and Vader) and Kanan: The Last Padawan. All the others have focused on non-Jedi characters.

I think the yellowish green is canon even if its only for Asoka using it in her shoto...

 

You'll hate me for this but I'd call that more a shade of green than yellow.

I think she will have to at some point build her own, Luke needs to pass down that knowledge at the least.

 

I would like to see her carry red LOL She'd look good in red.

I wish the movies would embrace a little more D&D like laws. Let's see some Chaotic Good Jedi's and Lawful Good Siths lol...that is, Jedi that dance a little close to the dark side, even using dark side powers, but with an overall good alignment and sense of right. While, a Sith that is Lawful good would be one that possesses both admirable and undesirable(bad) traits. I believe Mace Windu to have been something of a Chaotic Good Jedi. I think that's why he was the only one in the movies with the "in-between" color blade.

 

The "Excalibur" comment of pulling the saber from the snow - referencing her merit over birthright was absolutely fabulous. And for that very reason, she needs to keep Anakin's saber. At first, I was thinking she'd go the route of the Darth Maul dual-bladed light saber because of the staff she uses on Jakku. However, I think that succumbs to fan-boyism rather than Star Wars-ism. I do like the fact that she adopts the fighting style of the bo staff (the thrusts at the mid section) when using the saber, though.

Plus, if she alters Anakin's saber... she won't be able to lord it over Kylo Ren. "Ha, ha... look at me, I have Anakin's light saber!" ... instead it will be "Ha, ha! I have the crystal that was in Anakin's light saber and have since crafted something new completely unrelated to Anakin!" (That doesn't have the same ring or taunting to it).

 

Ahsoka's "shoto" lightsaber towards the end of The Clone Wars was definitely a yellowish colour:

 

Rey didn't seems comfortable holding the lightsaber the traditional way, so I think she will need something more... personalized (incoming Disney money pit from lightsabers.) I could see her using a curved hilt like Count Dooku or Asajj Ventress, and I also see her using it with the reverse grip similar to Ahsoka Tano and Galen Marek (non-canon, but still good for reference.) Also, if she builds her own lightsaber while still owning Anakin's lightsaber, i could see her utilizing Jar'Kai and dual-wield sabers. Rey just seemed clumsy with the standard lightsaber grip, she could learn it under Luke, but I can see her using her own style.

My other thought was on the staff she has. It makes me think whether or not she would go the Darth Maul route with a double-sided lightsaber. Of course maul being a Zabrak is a lot stronger than a typical human, so his strength made him powerful with a dual-wield blade, but Rey's (relatively) small body could make her to be very maneuverable in combat, making the ability to spin a dual-wield blade for an attack very deadly.

 

I watched both the restaurant fight scene and Yu Shu Lien vs Jiao Long fight scene from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon... and I think it would rock if she adopted the quick fighting style as seen in these fight scenes. Yes, she could be quite deadly with staff-saber; however, I'm still waiting for someone who takes the light saber "sword play" and turn it into an art form / dance form. (Of course, if she finished off moves with "Just Kidding" from that character in Soul Caliber, my wife would instantly fall in love with her).

 

Given that she used a staff to fight for most of her life, and even used the lightsaber like it was a staff, I'd like to see her get a double-bladed lightsaber personally. You go through the trouble of having Daisy learn bojutsu, might as well keep using it.

As for the color, I've always been found of the green ones. But it could be kind of cool to see her be on the light side, but use a red one.

 

Anakins blade is now reys blade, if she gets some sort of stupid double bladed lightsaber that would be ridiculous, lets keep that tosh out of the sequel trilogy.

 

Yeah, it's totally ridiculous to have a character who fights with a style designed for a staff (to the point of using the lightsaber in pretty much the same way) to have a staff-like lightsaber. That wouldn't make sense at all. Oh wait, it'd make perfect sense.

 

Yellow is canon the temple guards used them.

I'm kinda hoping for an orange double-bladed saber because I really think Rey needs her own thing.

 

If she does, I want it to be yellow so bad, and it being incorporated into her staff would be awesome. Yellow has always been my favorite lightsaber color for some reason.

 

I think in the next film she'll definitely use Anakin's/Luke's old saber, but I do think she will eventually build one of her own for Episode IX.

 

I think she will use something similar to Ventress, except straight like mauls, incorporating her own Orange blade and Anakin's Blue. or at least that is my favorite idea. Finn should build a new design with a yellow color.

 

She should use the Skywalker lightsaber.


Luke doesn't need a lightsaber, and I'll be surprised if he uses one. Even if he faces Snoke.

 

I can see her incorporating the "Skywalker" lightsaber into her staff like the above image.

 

For ages I figured that Rey would get her own lightsaber, probably stylized to act as a pike or a dual-bladed lightsaber (a la Darth Maul), but I think The Force Awakens goes a long ways in making it clear that Anakin's lightsaber is meant for Rey. It's kinda odd, because I grew up thinking that Luke's green saber from RotJ was an upgrade of sorts, but TFA brings the Bespin saber back and makes it completely mystical. It's "special" in a way that other lightsabers are not. It is the "Excalibur" of Star Wars.

I could be wrong and we'll see Rey either lose the Bespin saber and forge a new one of her own or Luke holds onto it while Rey trains with a new saber, but I think it's going to continue to be very relevant to the new trilogy from here on out.

 

I definitely wouldn't eliminate the possibility that she models her lightsaber after her staff. Luke is great at creating new lightsabers, so it wouldn't surprise me at all to see her with a Darth Maul esque dual end lightsaber.

 

It won't be a Maul double-blade; that's been done. Movie makers are always on the lookout for something "different" to show the audience, so I'm predicting a pike: a lightsaber blade on a staff. That's something we haven't seen in action on the big screen.
