Darth Vader is the obvious one when it comes to brand recognition but (and I know this isn't conclusive) Spidey toys outsold any superhero/film toy line by a ridiculous number. From kids all the way to adults I just think Spidey is more well known.

Supes and Bats are absolutely more iconic. But I think Spidey is more popular.

But my main point was that Marvel are an iconic powerhouse in their own right. I do think though when it comes to box office, Star Wars is king.

Spiderman strictly by name recognition is probably just as iconic as the Star Wars character. However the difference comes in the fact that we have so many different versions of Spiderman/Batman/Superman that you basically are just talking about the name and that is it. Where as with Star Wars there has been only one Luke Skywalker in the movieverse (as well as any other Star Wars character). So when you say Luke Skywalker you are talking about the story of Luke Skywalker. Not just the name Luke Skywalker.

Yeah, as much as I love Marvel (and I do love Marvel, so far I like every MCU movie and quite a few done by other studios like most of the X-Men movies, even liked the first two Fantastic Four movies, etc.), I don't think Spider-Man is in the same league as Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. I think I'd be more comfortable putting Superman or Batman in the same realm, though. For one, Superman has been around forever, I mean who the heck doesn't know who Superman is?! I feel like Superman may be the most iconic character in North America, at least. He's almost like the entire culture's ideals wrapped into one man, like the American spirit personified. I love Superman too, he's probably my favorite superhero. I like my superheroes like I like my coffee -- as strong as possible! lol.

If we're talking about box office in general on this thread, can we agree that Dark Tower is pretty much DOA 4 months before its release?

No teaser, trailer or anything. There was a leaked one rough cut that was removed. Talking about completely writing off a movie!

Spider-man one of the most iconic fictional characters, period, but the movie brand is badly tarnished. And the upcoming Disney version looks like it maybe the worst one yet. The trailer was awful.

I think it might be pushed back. And honestly? I don't know why. It has a good release date, last weekend of July. By then the heavy hitters for July, Spidey and Planet of the Apes would been out for a few weeks and August is basically a wasteland. That is a nice space to roam for a movie like Dark Tower but my spidey senses it's going to be pushed back and the only reason it seems (since the release date seems solid) is they are not happy with the film.

Estimates have Kong and Logan fighting it out:

$46 million for OW with B&tB could equal real trouble for Kong at least domestically. Again I think it is going to get lost in the shuffle picking an awful release date. They should have pushed it back and gone with the last weekend in July instead LOL!

Dude, I still remember to this day the amount of mass marketing Titanic had in this country. I am not kidding, every 5 minutes we had that Celine Dion theme music in the radio stations, the hype was huge.

That is why I tell you, in our market, if you want big numbers, you need to do huge marketing.

Sure seems like it. A rough (like VERY rough) cut of the trailer was leaked in October. Couldn't make much of it but looked like it would be cool when polished up a bit. They took it down immediately. But that was 5 months ago and they didn't get it done apparently.

As for B&tB I think the reviews will be the difference between whether it hits $400 million or not which I honestly now think it will fail to do.
