My thoughts too, I was fine with them showing how things were coming together with Bodhis defection and Galens message.
It is only 'General Syndulla'. So it might as well be Cham.. But he is probably busy on Ryloth and since we briefly see Ghost later on above Scarif it's most likely about Hera..
We do? I missed that! Will certainly have to look for it next time I see the film I did get a kick out of "General Syndulla" being mentioned though!
Visually I thought it worked great! Didn't like the voice though - they really should have used Stephen Stanton (and he was credited for doing the voice for another Imperial ).
Just back. even though I wanted more pt style (more drama, politics etc), I still come out appriciating what this film is and thoroughly enjoyed it Characters were great, events felt like they had wayy more emotional weight to them than TFA, the final action sequence was enjoyable. it did feel a little tfa-esque in the sense that the plot was constantly to one place to another, with each segment bookended by an action scene. but it just wasnt as detrimental asnin tfa Things I loved: Spoiler - Jynn - mads mikkelsen (love him), - kassian (possibly the best acted character in the film imo) - cgi tarkin and Leia, oh my they looked great. honestly they could recreate the old films with how good they looked. I dont know how they did it - darth Vader wiping out that corridor omg - the first 40 or so minutes as everything was being setup (i love getting accustomed to the world building and learning whats what). - I loved that multiple sides were presented to the plot eg. forest whitaker being an extremist rebel who the other rebels dont exacty ally with: jynn just wantingnto get to her dad, Diego luna ordered to kill her dad, caylin agreeing to help the empire so he could sbotage fom ge inside etc. It was a nice view of the politiking invovled. love love Love - loved forst whitker in this - Edit: just remmbered, also loved seeing bail organa!! Things I was eh on: Spoiler - the humour, so little of the humour worked for me, like that robot catching the grende and casully throwing it at the storm troopers, I thought it went against the urgent, serious tone of plot and I wish the film was played mre straight. - the blind guy. found him kinda annoying tbh. - forest whitaker not even trying to escape felt a little lame. - lack of slower and more personble scenes. I want more segments like padme and quigon spending the night at anakins, or Senate politics, or padme and anakin 1v1 romance. rogue one likr tfa was pushed forward with such momentum and there was barely a moment to settle down. - Ben medelson. I didnt find him particuarly menacing or - as the min villain in the film - that he brought much to the table. people keep saying hes great actor but everytime i watch a film he is in i just dont feel it - Edit: I also have big issues with the editing betweennthe Scarif battle scenes and jynn Infiltration scenes. The jynn scenes got such little time to breathe. They would cut to her for like 1 second then cut back. Those moments inside the main base needed a sense of isolation, silence and patience to build the tension and fear. But it was rushed. Thats all that come to mind right now. Overall I give the film 8/10 and I put it either 3Rd or 4th in my rankings (Yeah I think its better than all of OT). im not sure if I like it more than AOTC but I certinly think its a more even/consistent film, even though AOTC has better highs. Also my dad whos only experience of Star Wars was "I think I saw the original", said he found the plot super confusing and it made him feel like he was "drunk" lol. he did say he recognised carrie Fisher though! Overall I think RO was a good action flick with interesting characters and emotional weight. Score: 8/10 Now onto read the internets opinions! i think my opinion on Rogue One will line up with consenus much more than any other star wars film, so reading them wont make me needlessly angry like they usually do haha Are spoiler tags nessescary by the way?
199 reviews on RT and Rogue One is at 84%. Again I think Disney are doing a jig down main street over this. Yes it isn't be meant with the same universal acclaim that The Force Awakens did (I think it's safe to say that Rogue One will not be considered for any major awards like The Force Awakens did) but considering how poorly many studio tentpole movies were meant by critics (I am looking at you WB & DC Studios) having Rogue One get good reviews is a major coup for Disney. And it also just highlights it's dominance over everyone. Unless something absolutely insane happens, Disney will have the Top Three box office movies this year (Finding Dory, Civil War, Rogue One) and four out of five with The Jungle Book. Heck six out of the top ten will be Disney movies this year (Finding Dory, Civil War, Rogue One, Jungle Book, Zootopia, Doctor Strange). And considering what is on slate next year (GOTG2, Spiderman: Homecoming, Pirates 5, Episode VIII etc) it just continues to look like everyone is starting to fight for table scraps more and more.
I loved all the imagery and I liked the worlds and planets - but to me, the storytelling was needlessly messy. It was once they hit Jedha that it settled in and from then on never looked back. To be fair, that could be first viewing syndrome. First time I saw TFA I felt it was too rushed. On second viewing that feeling evaporated. The only genuinely bad things for me - and they are the embodiment of nitpicks - were: Dr. Evanzan and the Rogue One logo itself.
The two CGI'd characters looked absolutely awful and took me out of the scenes they were in. This is the same issue I typically have, using CGI to make a human character and standing them next to a REAL person will make the differences stand out pretty heavily. Anyways, the movie was great. Felt fresher than TFA but I still think TFA was better. Vader's role was literally perfect, not overused but when used it was gripping stuff. Movie definitely felt the most like a legitimate war film. Enjoyed it. If they continue with this quality of star wars movies I'm gonna be a really happy fan.
I liked it a lot, but there is a lot to take in on a midnight showing! Pros: felt like 'old school' star wars cons: cgi Tarkin/Leia - Just something 'off' about those two, though i loved seeing Tarkin on screen again!
One other thing - there's a shot where Krennic's shuttle leaves the Death Star equatorial trench - the scale seemed really off - the death star much too small/shuttle too big. Anyone else notice this?
Loved the film. I loved Tarkin coming in so early and being a key player in the plot. CGI was little off but hey it was a great job. Voice was little off though. Leia CGI was more noticeable but I knew it was coming so happy to see them end that way as made sense. Loved seeing all the A new hope pilots again and the other little nods Some good little lines in the film that made me laugh which was nice. Vader......... Loved seeing him however he just looked a tiny bit off IMO, it's probably because it's not Prowse in the suit that makes the body language a little different but loved him in it. The voice was a little different to A New Hope which I was hoping they could match maybe a little closer but given JEJ voice has aged it is understandable (although doesn't affect Optimus Prime somehow lol). I missed some of the deleted scenes and thought would have been nice to have them, but understandable given re-writes and re-shots. Loved it will give overall 9/10
I really hoped it was Hera and Cham is dead at that time. But they left it vague on purpose. Dr.Evazan cameo was useless and weird- are they suddenly believers with Baba?- Ironic that they go from Jedha to have a fight with a jedi on Tatooine... Guy without legs felt lame? Srsly? Ok I get what you mean but I think that in his position that was understandable. He was simply tired of running away and also he was becoming mad anyway if he wasn't already.
You know what was the best thing about Rogue One? The mustaches of the Rebel Pilots ! With that mustaches, they automatically win.
Spoiler He was a rebel extremist so he was willing to do (and had done) anything for the cause. But instead, at that moment, he just gives up. I dont get it. Especially with all this business with Jynn coming back in his life, the traitor pilot, Gaylen's inside messge etc. Right then was not the time to give up surely. He had metal legs, he could move. It just felt like the plot called for a dramatic death scene with nice big closeup at that moment. Also Diego Luna's character knew Jedha was going to be attacked and he apparenty didnt warn anyone there about it. I guess he didnt think ge effects would reach them? I dont know.
I've seen it twice, and that feeling disappeared entirely for me. The first act is now my favorite, just as it is with ANH. In many science fiction and fantasy films, I often find the "setup" to be the most compelling/ authentic/ immersive. That's the case for me here. Though unlike a lot of other films, IMO, the resolution is just as compelling with RO. The consensus that seems to be developing around the first act reminds me of a similar phenomenon with the first Hobbit film. The first 30 or so minutes were criticized for being too slow and too expository, but for me, it's the most grounded and believable portion of the whole messy thing. I'm especially enamored with the opening flashback of RO. Just gorgeous, and nice to more quietly settle into a Star Wars film for once. Especially since most of the rest of the film is so relentless. Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised at how good this film is. Was expecting far more of a "messy reshoot" signature.
Spoiler I think it was made quite clear that, at that point, Saw was weak and broken. Phsically, he was in a very bad shape and he was torn by doubt and maybe even guilt for having abandoned Jyn, which he is now confronted with. On top of that, everything he has been fighting for is desintegrating before his eyes, so all that considered, I feel that his resignation is plausible.
