I have to say two things. Firstly, I stand corrected in my earlier post, I said that the developers would be hesitant to make a game based on EU merchandise, however I forgot about Shadows of the Empire on the N64, so I guess it could happen.

Also, many people have suggested that the next RS game should be set in the OT but in new situations. However, I think of Rebel Assualt II, which was pretty much the same thing and that was naff. The situations were exactly the same as the films, but the names were only changed slightly. Your rookie pilot was a niave farmboy, the two main characters infiltrate an imperial base by disguising themselves as Storm Troopers, and one of the last missions takes place on the forrest moon of Imdaar... gee, that almost sounds like the forrest moon of...

Well, the RA series certainly wasn't the most originally storyline for a SW game. But then look at the original Rogue Squadron game, which had it's own original story/campaign, and that only threw in the two movie levels as bonus stages.

That's what I want to see in RS4- an original story not tied to Yavin, Hoth or Endor.

however I forgot about Shadows of the Empire on the N64, so I guess it could happen.

Good example, actually, since the Rogue Squadron series actually evolved from the success of the vehicle stages in SOTE.

    ^^ Damn Straight ^^

If there is a new one, maybe it could be pre-ANH but not in the PT. Like two or three years before, where we have the Rebellion forming, and Rogue Squadron beginning. What i'd really love to see is you getting to put together your own squadron. For instance, say you can have twelve in a squadron.

    - You customise you character, the leader. He/She can fly any vessel you've unlocked.

    - You start with two wingmen, who are given characters, tied to the plot. They fly whatever you fly/their own fighters, say Z-95's.

    - As you progress, more and more pilots and craft are available, and you can build your own personal squadron to fly into combat.

As said before I'll re-echo that RS4 should be about the NR while RS5 should be about the NJO.

That would be cool, yet I find it pretty much impossible... there have been no games so far based on a book series. (although I wish there was!)

Didn't Knights of the Old Republic start out as a comic first?

Y-Wings suck. theyre too slow and too weak on offense. those bombs are useless if youre in a dog fight. its like choosing a B52 bomber over a Mustang to fight the german messerschmidts. and RS is about dogfights. I'd fly an Xwing or even Bwing over a Ywing anyday. the Kwing and the TIE Defender would be awesome fighters to fly :)

there have been no games so far based on a book series.

The original Rogue Squadron game's plot was almost a near-ripoffof the X-Wing books, but it was changed enough to make it a new story set earlier...so I suppose one could argue it was inspired by the books at the very least.

Didn't Knights of the Old Republic start out as a comic first?

The era was first established in the Tales of the Jedi comics (the original TOTJ series later became titled Knights of the Old Republic, which is probably where the game makers got the inspiration for their title from), however the actual story of KOTOR is original and just uses the comics as backstory.

How bout a [h]lying game with a similar engine but thousands of years before ANH? Those TIE-looking things in *gasp* KOTOR look pretty badass.

Also, the Battle of Mon Calamari level in the original Rogue Squadron was based on the 'Dark Empire' comic series, as I recall.

^^^ Indeed it was...did anybody forgot the lil' comic book included with the N64 game?

Anywhoo, I hope we see more of Factor 5's franchise soon... just no more foot missions please...unless they gan get a better engine to deliver better gameplay.

I don't think they ened to go totally different with the engine- the back and forth between foot and flight was near perfect, it was just the ismplistic shooting nature was a tad off in trying to mimic the flight shoot style. A more advanced shooter design for the foot levels would be a good improvement.

I know Lucasarts stopped making games for the GC due to poor sales, hence why I had to go and buy a XBOX, but does anyone know if they will make SW games for the Revolution??

*I was a diehard NES fanboy and the Xbox is the first console I've bought other than nintendo, EVER! But like someone else wrote "Owning one console is for chumps!"

They didn't really stop making games for the GCN, but it's unlikely we'll see any more this generation.

A SW game on the Rev is almost a given- though it may depend on the nature of what's supposed to be so radically new about it.

<<I know Lucasarts stopped making games for the GC due to poor sales>>

Actually, that's funny cos speaking of the Rogue Squadron series, they have made good money on the Cube. The first game (Rogue Leader) sold quite a lot. And even the second one sold initially well despite it's drawbacks.

I remember that they made some polls at their website several times asking what console they would like to see some of their games on. And the GameCube placed always in second and sometimes in first place (after the PS2).

And really, it's not like the Xbox was selling craploads of their games. So why support one and not the other?

Anywhoo, I'm really waiting to see what Factor 5 does not so much what Lucasarts can deliver to the Cube...

I like the idea of custamizing your squad but it would be even cooler if the better you do your guys squad could "level up" and get better in categories like accuracy and evasion, but if they got killed they were gone for good and you would have to train new recruits. So not only do you want to complete the mission but you have more of a need to keep your squad alive, sort of like Rainbow Six.

How come in the EU suggestions there was nothing from the Jedi Academy Trilogy? I can at least think of the escape from Maw Installation after Daala brings the Gorgon back and Sivron brings back the DS Prototype. Sure, the main deal was centered around Han and Kyp, but there were still a bunch of Republic fighters.

Or the second battle of Calamari, where Ackbar mobilizes B-Wings against Daala's TIEs.

Plus with Jedi Academy you could make the Sun Crusher a secret n00b ship.
    -------------------------------
I'd also like to see some Shadows of the Empire. The battle where Luke and the Rogues distract the Imperials so Dash and Lando can try to find Boba Fett (I always forget the planet that battle's at) could be one. Also, Luke, Dash, and the Bothans trying to steal the plans. Thirdly, the battle with the Skyhook as it was in the book (which if I recall was greatly deviated from in the original N64 game).
    --------------------------------
My favorite idea for the next RS would be to have it sorta dualistic. You play through once as the Rebels, and then you can go back to all of the missions and play a totally different Imperial version of whatever mission.

Probably because the Jedi Academy Trilogy is one of the most widely hated series in all of Star Wars literature.

I doubt that Factor 5 will be bringing anything to the Revolution because as was reported last week, they've jumped ship again from developing for Microsoft to Playstation 3 exclusivly, unfortunately.

However, that might not preclud future Rogue Squadron games fom appearing on other platforms, if Lucasarts gets a new developer for the series.
