Oh this book is killing me with its greatness... I need to discuss my placement ideas and details soon... going slow so to not spill it all to those not as far in reading yet, hence here some bits from within the first few chapters beyond the free excerpt that was availeable pre-relrease already: Spoiler With the book early on giving some juicy backstory for the Jedi, Sith, Empire and so on, I figure the Hundred Year Darkness if placed in relation to it like previously suspected, was very equal in galactic composition to the later much longer New Sith Wars in that the Republic became an Empire and Jedi Lords ruled swaths of space like Moffs. Maybe even tied to the galactic nobility and noble houses domains and their borders I'd like on some map in a future Essential Atlas. And it seems Coruscant was not always the seat of government and previous generations tried to also move the capital to other places, with it obviously for reasons the book gives reverting back to it.
Can’t wait until more people finish this. I’m gonna do a reread tomorrow. One thing a Kindle is good for (the app anyway) is taking screenshots of key lore moments.
Don’t mind me… just patiently waiting for Amazon to drop my copy off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don’t have access to the E-mail address that was used to receive confirmation of the delivery, as it’s my parents E-mail address which they used. It’s basically a belated birthday present from them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Spoiler I like how this fresh era has many interesting implications for the movie era still. Jedi Clans like Samurai clans with each academy/praxeum kinda being their own clan akin to asian martial arts movies masters dojos and schools turning over time into only being remembered by Youngling clans in the unified Jedi Order of the PT. Jedi Lords as alternate name for Jedi Master and/or Watchman getting out of use due to Sith sticking to the Lord title and only briefly in the NSW Jedi Lordships being reinvoked with title and all. Also the Adoption angle is interesting as less the order and more a Lord directly adopted it students legally. Some scenes gave me Arca Jeth vibes... good ones! The Jedi Order is less unified than one might think, given there even is talk about multiple Jedi Orders existing in paralell (oh Djinn Altis would love this!). Some not serving the aristocracy/government as others do and pledged fealty. In fact the "Republic" in this era seems to be an Empire of hereditary aristocracy with an Emperor, maybe a constitutional monarchy of some sort. But hey, after Pius Dea and Contispex some aristocracy revival was to be expected. It lasting till this era though if placements hold, is intriguing. (one might even reevaluate some Alsakan conflicts and Alsakans and Tions position on them in light of new intel if going into a deep dive in!) And backstory with the Sith and the Witch reminds me that Palpatine allying with Mother Talzin could have been a revival of that idea and principle before he chose to take Maul instead. So this era actually opens up several interesting past angles all interwoven: the high time of galactic aristocracy, witches being far more widespread and influential than restricted to their homeworlds and there is an interesting thing going on with vanishing bodies, ghosts, demons and gods I am not spoiling yet. But it feels like this book could be the opener of an entire era and should be! Canon or not pfff I need the RONINVERSE! Will type up further notes I took later.
No luck on this at Waterstones today so it will be an Amazon order (with some other books) this weekend.
I was in my local Waterstones this morning and they had no new SW books at all - just ones that came out some time ago.
I'm enjoying the book so far, but I'm pretty early on between work and juggling other reading. It does a good job of blending the two aesthetics, and while there's the occasional odd turn of phrase (either accidentally or deliberately reminding me of seat-of-the-pants translations), the prose mostly stays out of the way. You'd think mystical sci-fi samurai shenanigans would be a no-brainer, but I've seen it fail spectacularly in the past, so it's a good job on that front. It's actually the only thing that's canon. Everything else, films included, was just a very elaborate Ronin AU.
What's up with your bookstores folks? Seems outside of Germany the bookstore landscape is severely trashed and finding a new book is the holy grail. I'll defend my bookstore till the last breath if I have to and no Amazon can change that! I got the book twice now due to forgetting to cancel the second order... then again, all the better given one is heavily annotated and marked for quotes already. And Roninverse needs supportbuying!
Short answer: The Axis of Evil... Darth Covid Darth Brexit Global Supply Chain Chaos Certain US stuff, on an erratic pattern, tends to get bumped by a month despite being out in the US - Edge of Balance 1, High Republic Adventures, Star Trek Coda 1.....
And Darth Suez Canal I got mine on Tiesday but am in the middle of another book and don’t currently want to read a SW novel since I’m feeling Disney-fatigued by the info dump over the past weekend. We’ll see in 4-5 days when I finish the current book. It was my fave Visions short
I've heard this is an issue all over, oddly. I just saw on Insta some people noting the delay. Would explain the sheer lack of discussion about the book online two days after it came out. pouts
I hope to start this book this weekend! Here is a 22-entry thread from the author about Japanese folklore and ghosts that will be fun to keep in mind while reading:
