I am the maker of a serious Star Wars Fanfilm, Link to the Past. It is about twenty or so minutes long, and is set in the clone wars. The movie is 100% greenscreen. I'm doing all the keying, blaster effects, explosions, and most the other post-production work. I realize that the work load is a bit much for one man, and there are some areas that I simply have no skill in.

First, I need some rotoscopers for lightsaber effects. There are four Jedi wielding lightsabers, and also someone else will be using four lightsabers, so there is a lot of work there. I will take as many people as possible. What I would like is to have enough people to have everyones work load be no more than three or so minutes per person. The videos I will be sending will not be in one big piece, but will be a bunch of single clips, most averaging in 2-5 seconds long. I'll send you the footage, then you send me the after effects project with the rotoscoped lightsabers, then I will add the glows and the color, that way they all match up. I'm using After Effect 7.0 Professional, I don't know all the versions that are compatible.

Next and VERY importantly, I need an animator(or two, or three, or four[face_laugh]). I will be having a fight between General Grievous, his BodyGuards, and the Jedi. I don't need the models made, as for the Grievous model I would like to use Artur Owsnicki's Grievous at Sci-Fi 3d, as I believe that model is open to the public, as long as the author is credited. I will also need the Magna Guards animated, again, making a model is not necessary, as I have found one. It is the model from a modder from Jedi Academy who I have tried to email many times, asking for permission, but he has long left the community, so I don't think there is a problem. I will post a link if anyone needs it. I'm not quite ready for the animators just yet, as I haven't finished keying the footage for those fights, as I assume the keyed footage would be necessary to match the models to the characters. In the magnaguards fights, I have an actor standing in for the model, who will be keyed out, but the Grievous vs. Jedi fights there is no actor stand in so the actors improvised it. So animating Grievous would require either the animator using his or her own creativity, or if need be, I could give them a move by move walkthrough, depending on their preference.

Here are some clips of the footage being rotoscoped, the footage being animated, and some of the footage already keyed. They are at a reduced resolution for easier downloads.

Well I think there's a problem. Because I know that when I went from AE 7.0 to AE CS3 it had to convert my old 7.0 files, but I don't know how it would work if I did Roto work for you and you were to try to put my CS3 files into your AE 7.0. I'm not sure if it can convert down from CS3 to 7.0. So if I were to do Roto work for you I would have to do the glows as well, you'd have to give me the specs on how you'd want the glows to be. Otherwise I think I can help you out. Just let me know if you'd like me to roto for you. I'll be glad to help. My e-mail address is andrewmichael5@hotmail.com or you can just PM me.

    I have to ask here.

    Link to the Past?

    Like the Zelda game?

... Are you SURE that's the best possible title? Because I was all excited to see Grievous using the Cane of Byrna and now I don't know what to think.

    Rick McCallum loves you!

Actually I really don't think that's going to stay, I've not really spent a lot of time thinking about a title, as that's not my focus at the moment, but I can almost guaranty that it will change before release.

Well I didn't have to convert my files in my projects, but my AE7.0 projects were converted by CS3 when I tried opening my AE 7.0 projects in AE CS3. You know? When it brings up that message that the project is an earlier version of Adobe After Effects and must be converted for use in this newer version or whatever, and then it says none of the files will be damaged or changed.

No you wouldn't, you could provide the white cores on black and anyone can do the glows.

Has anyone started tackling any of the roto? If not, then i'm going to start grabbing one....just don't wanna double work.

Covert - are the colors of the props the colors of the sabers you want?

I was going to tackle http://rapidshare.com/files/39539700/Rotoscoping__3_.mov first.

    LMK.
