ROTS: The Extended Edition

I think in an Extended version of ROTS we should see more of Padme joining the Rebel Alliance, as I think this relates really nicely to Leia being in the Rebel Alliance in the OT. Also we should see Yoda on Dagobah and more scenes with Vader on the Death Star.

And if GL added a Qui-Gon scene I would cry with happiness!

 

i would Like to see an Extended Order 66 Scene, with Barriss and Quinlan's death, maybe some other Jedi too.

and an extended Jedi Temple Raid.

I REALLY would love to see the full version of the Separatist Slaughter. I want to see Vader closing the doors, then everyone's reaction. He grabs his saber and quickly disposes of the two guards at the door. The reaction of the Separatists here should be awesome. Then he begins moving about the room, striking down the Neimoidian Controllers, Denaria Kee, Passel Argente, Cat Miin. Nute Gunray and Rune Haako open the door to the conference room and run in as San Hill's screams get silenced, then Po Nudo, Shi'ido, and Poggle the Lesser. Wat Tambor, Shu Mai, and two guards run into the conference room. Nute and Rune hide beneath the table. Vader turns from the Control Room and peers across the table at Wat Tambor with his evil Sith eyes, then enters. The two guards on both sides of the door are quickly struck down. Rune, trying to escape, is blocked when he comes from beneath the table. "Stop! Nooo!" but he is cut down. Then Shu Mai jumps onto the conference table in attempt to flee Vader and is decapitated. Wat Tambor then tries to flee, but is caught by Vader, and the two struggle for a moment. "Please, I'll give you anything...anything you want!" begs Wat, as he gives up. He is stabbed and killed. In the meantime, Nute has fled the room, calling a group of Destroyer Droids and they blast away at Vader. Smoke fills the conference room and it falls silent. Relieved, Nute sighs, but suddenly Vader appears before him. Nute begins stammering "The war is over. Lord Sidious...promised us peace. We only want - " and he is killed.

THAT would be incredible to see...maybe, just maybe...we will get to see it in all it's glory some day.

 

IMHO lucas shuold appraoch the question of EE the same wat PJ appraoched it
PJ when he made the EE, he made it for an audiance that already saw the threatrical version, so for exmaple the scene where Aragon got the alligence of Ghost Army was cutr from the threatrical but put back for the EE.

i think if lucas makes the ROTS EE he should ackknowledge that people do have a copy of the threarical version and seen the movie. Iam sure intercutting the Yoda duel with Anakin/OB duel was a great idea, but how about for the ROTS EE making the full-length-uncut duel, first that of Sidious/Yoda duel while OB1 is getting to Mustaphar which is btw located in the Outer Rim and and when OB1 get to mustaphar, thats when Sidiosu says "i sense Lord Vader is in danger ..." and while Sidious is getting to Mustaphar, OB1 fights his uncut-11-minutes-long-duel with Vader (iam sure space travel between Core and Outer Rim is more than 11 minutes )

the same goes for seppies massacre: iam sure it was a stroke of genuis by having OB1 saying "who could have done this" being intercut by Anakin's killing; but now for the EE release the entire seppies massacre uncut from the moment he takes on those two Neimodian guards next to the door, as shown in the pic from the making of the ROTS, and finishing by the Droideika's attack on Anakin .... and NO to Vader's cheesy lines from the ROTS novels

that being said the Order 66 montage should be intercut with Anakin doing some nasty things in the Temple and finishing the sequence by the Youngling's incident. show Anakin grabbing Shaak ti's sword after he killed her and wielding two blue blades and make him fight against a Jedi Knight equipped with a green double-blade sword (ok the last part of fan-boy wish)

as i understand it is difficult to do a EE when it invloves the full-CG shots, like the space battle; but i beilvie two scenes were cut; also Shaakti's death by Grevious is redicoulus

i need to ask was there ever a footage filmed showing Mace and Posse force pushing the Rodian secretary and the Red Guards before entering Sidious antechamber; as it stands now one should wonder where are the Red Guards??

I'm not sure if it was filmed, however I do know that Dar Wac (the Rodian Secretary) was on set, as there is a picture of him at his desk. So I assume it was filmed. I too would love to see this scene.

 

More Temple footage would be great! It is nice to see the Seperatists get taken out and Younglings, but I would LOVE to see Vader dispatch 2, 3, 4 Jedi at a time in the Temple.
Imply the Youngling slaughter, then show him just lighting up those left in the temple.

OK I like the idea of adding extended battle scenes, but I am more interested in seeing scenes that advance the story put in. Like everything surrounding the battle scenes. The earlier suggestion of the look of terror on the seperatists faces was great. Bare minimum, this needs to be done.

BARE MINIMUM
1. Qui Gon in (no excuses, any EE needs this)
2. Put the rebel scene back in (but cut the Lucas Daughter line "Patience Senator"???? Am I the only one that thought that was really out of place.
3. Redo or Re-edit the Sidious battle. For a series that prided itself on good action sequences, this really hurt.
4. More Suited Vader
5. Longer Order 66 (the pivotal part of the whole series should be longer than a ship landing)
6. SIFO DYAS (EXPLINATION)

TO SPOIL EVERYBODY INSERT THE FOLLOWING
1. Longer Vader-Obi Battle
2. Some actual Utuapan Soldiers (Cool figures, where were they in the movie?)
3. Wookie pulling arms out of sockets (this was promised in one of McCallums interviews, where was it?)
4. Replace that line by the bad kid actor (Better than Natalie's acting at times, but still very bad) "What are we going to do Master Skywalker?" felt like Oliver Twist "More Sir?"
5. How about some IMperial control, show troopers slowly taking over worlds, a quick montage would be awesome. Show Troopers deployed throughout the galaxy.
6. Give Tarkin a line. (Most people didn't even know he was in the movie)
7. Utuapu was cool, how about more of the planet.
8. What was Mustafar anyway, this was supposed to be the most defended planet of the Trade Federation. It kinda looked undefended and pretty weak fortress. And what was the planet for (Smelting?)
9. Cut some cheesy lines
10. Anakin vs. Windu (So help me this could totally have been extended, and shown the real power of Vader)
11. Anakin needs a better turn to the Dark Side.

Top of my head, this is what needs to be added. Anybody else on the Lucas kid line? Opinion?

 

I think for me the extended Dooku duels would be great to build up suspense; especially since the first one is the climax of the film and the second one antisipates the direction Anakin will go in the future. That being said I think if I had to choose one, I'd prefer the AOTC duel to be the extended one.

I would also like the Qui Gon thing to be put back; but I'm betting that it was excluded because Lucas felt the words themselves took the concept in the wrong direction. If that's the case then just have Liam Neesan say something closer to what Lucas wants. Although this didn't even make it to post production right? What I mean is Liam never recorded anything anyway? Anyway that was really the only part I missed. Also it would be cool to see Anakin fight some Jedi Masters in the temple, even if for a 30 seconds or so as a precurser to the youngling slaughter. This would sort of glorify the Sith ideal of conquest and then smash that glorification to bits with the youngling scene. Again I could do without it though, and perhaps it was never there to build up antisipation for the Anakin/Obi Wan duel. This may also be why the Dooku duel was short as well.

I'd like to see the Ayala Secura (spelling? the blue Jedi lady) be given a more realistic ending. She looks pretty ridiculous as it appears in the film. I mean if she's gonna get it in the back and with no response, then atleast have her doing something, like using binoculars or examining something on the ground. Instead she just stands there like some dim wit. It not only makes the Jedi look bad, but women as well. I rather liked how the lady Jedi were presented in the Clone Wars cartoon series. I don't know the names; I'm not good like that; but they were in an old Jedi temple collecting saber crystals and training. This is how Ayala should have been presented; as a heroine.

For the OT, I'd like some extended space battle footage in the original Star Wars film, A New Hope, and perhaps a couple more shots of Ben and Vader on the death star.

Overall though I'd mostly like to see all the effects and creature animations brought up to par with what ROTS offered us. I sort of like how it's kind of an animated movie. And seeing all six films visualy equal to one another would really mesh the whole thing together for me. That for me is the essential version of the saga.

That being said; it's important to clarify that the Extended Editions of LOTR are the actual 'complete' versions. They were filmed and created that way, then the theatrical versions were created after by essentially cutting down the original films. I only watch them in the Extended versions.

Also it's important to note that Lucas invented the concept of a 'special edition' with his release of the altered versions of the OT in 1997. All the 'special edition' gimics used in marketing by other films happened after that release of Star Wars in theatres. So really, the premise of this thread has already occured.

Now while I was happy with the OT in its' original form; I would welcome a full blown revisit to post production at this point (on all the films, even TPM and AOTC) and only because now that the painter has put his brush to the work, it's important to restore the entire work and not just the most critical areas. But that would mean digital color rendering for almost all of Episode 4, not to mention almost a complete overhaul of all the effects and space choreography. Empire would need a little bit of work on background images and some of the creature work on Hoth. Some shadow rendering and smoothing out background images to forground images on Bespins added footage would help. Jedi would need a lot of creature work done and like the rest of the OT, things like explosions, matte lines and even the stars would need detailing. Perhaps this would be shoes too big for even Lucas so in that regard I wouldn't blame him if he just left it alone. Although if anyone could handle it, ILM can.

That's my view.

 

for EE of the Order 66; at various points prior to the Order 66 footage they should show CLone War being fought the same exact planets

for example:

in Fleucia, show the Republic convot ambushing some Driods in a 30s clip followed by Ki-Ai (sp) breaching the walls of a Clan's fortreess on Meygetto followed by .... this happens prior to the first Jedi Council's meeting in the movie

another bunch of clips of Clone Wars happned right after the kashyyk battle has started ...

and the last bunch of clips of Clone Wars is the one we saw in the ROTS movie of Order 66 execution


abd for pity's sake add Acklay to Fleucia

 

if one was ever made, i want to see:

-A Scene that depicts Mace's Body striking the ground, and Blood and Guts flying everywhere so we know he's dead.

-Also, show Commander Bly move up to Aayla while she's Down and shoot her in the head at Point Blank Range, just to make sure she is dead.

 

Yeah, that's, um...nice.

It will probably come to pass that a full blown "Final cut" edition will be put together some time down the road. But it most likely will be years from now. After the TV show is all done and on DVD. This I believe is GL's ultimate dream: To really finish the entire SW saga with everything he wants without the constraints of time with as much bonus material as he can cram on the discs. (most of this stuff is probably already recorded and is sitting in the archives waiting) and have the entire TV series on DVD as a companion piece.
Also to do the same with the Indiana Jones trilogy and TV series. Then he can kick the bucket and finally rest!

 

What I really wanted to see is only adding 3 seconds to the movie, thus making it 3 times cooler. But nooo, GL said no new Force-powers in ROTS, being in a must-close-the-doors-not-open-new-ones mood as he always is.

Yoda and Sidious fill each other's palms with electrical communication facilitating power, and then, the sphere forms. But just as this happens, I would have appreciated if they pulled spiritual lightsabers made of the Force, black and white, and clashed them, thus making the explosion that makes them fall back. Would've made me feel about Yoda the way I did when first viewing him in ESB, that's for sure.

But wouldn't the best thing for the Star Wars Series at this point be for George Lucas to actually pass away?

Unfortunately, maybe he has taken this thing as far as he can take it. Understand tha Star Wars will not die with Lucas. But when he goes, there will be more Star Wars made down the line. It is unavoidable that there will be more made down the line. And maybe then we will get the Extended Edition that everybody wants. Imagine if George Lucas had passed prior to the Prequals being made. Can you imagine a Peter Jackson or Spielberg finishing the saga? Its positively mindblowing. George is a producer, he has always been a poor director.

But keep in mind, George is great but at this point he has almost become too insulated from his core fan base to give the fans what they want as opposed to what he wants.

Remember, still love George. But in the bigger picture, will we finally get the EE we actually want when someone else controls the franchise?

 

heres my wish list

- add in rebellion scenes
-show grevious kililng at least one jedi...make him look somewhat evil
- yoda going to dagabah back in(the more endings the better in my book)
-show mon mothma and some other senators gathering on dantooine at the end...just a short 30 second seqeunce or so
- extend the jedi temple raid...that is what i was lookjing forward to the most...i hardly got any....show anakin kill shaak ti, cin drallig, jocasta nu....and show some clones killing some jedi
- extend order 66 with plo koons line, aaylas line, luminaras death on kashyyyk, quinlans death on kashyyyk, barris offees death on felucia
-the movie is very unbalanaced with virtually no action between the end of the space battle and the grevious obi duel...throw in a 4 or 5 minute sequence of the outter rim sieges in the middle somewhere...show the battles at their height(mygeeto, saleucami, cato niemodia and felcia)
-extend the palps vs. possee duel...kill off agen seasee and kit slowly
-extend "the duel"
-extend yoda vs sids...that duel was amazing
-extend grevious vs obi wan..that has such great potential

The only really nessesary additions the movie ABSOLUTLY needs for me is:

-The whole Qui Gonn spirit talking to Yoda at the end plot thread, and Yoda blaming himself and admitting that the Jedi Order was too ridgid and corrupt and how they will change, explaning why they won't raise the twins form birth, etc, and then Qui Gonn explaning to him exactly how to become a force ghost, etc...We can perhaps see a vague relfetion fo Qui Gonn in the glass window of the Polis Mass watch tower.

- Yoda landing on Dagobah.

-Someone revealing the whole Sifo Dias Mystery, PLEASE! This is THE biggest flaw of the saga! Its ridiouslous! Either that or have it come out in AOTC...this is such a loose end, its not even funny.


Now, here's things that I as a fan would like:

Extend everything, put EVERYTHIGN that was cut out back in and yes add a Wookiee ripping a droids arms out would be a nice touch. More Jedi Slaughter, more order 66, more Conquest of the Empire, enslaving, destroying and taking over planets all over the galaxy. more Senate empire speech, more Separtist slaughter, and longer duels. Rebellion scenes. Thats about it.

 

The original version of the scene where Grievous kills Shaak Ti and Obi and Ani slice throught the floor was different. There was no Grievous, and no Shaak Ti. It was a MagnaGuard and a ton of battle droids. The Magnaguard tells the Jedi they're under arrest and they cut through the floor into the fuel chamber.


If I could re-do the Invisible Hand sequences I would have Grievous and MagnaGuards fight Obi-wan and Anakin, and then Grievous would assist Dooku in the duel.

 

also:

-most of the Scenes from the Novel (Yoda taking a mud bath, Yoda disguising himself as a Jedi baby.
-Extended Order 66 Scenes, with some Clone Commanders regretting what they are about to do..
-scene kind of like at the end of Episode 2, with Palpatine on a balcony overlooking all the clones as they march into their Star Destroyers..
-extended temple Raid..
-a scene where Obi-Wan and Owen exchange some words after Obi-Wan brings Luke to him.
-a scene having Bail explaining to Capt. Antilles why C-3P0's Mind needs to be wiped.
-maybe a scene where Palpatine and Anakin secure some Sith Holocrons in the Temple Archives and Palpatine Boasts " now together we can find the secret to saving your wife."
-and a Scene of JarJar trying to protect a Jedi Padawan, and a Clone trooper shoots him and the child in cold blood. not seen, but implied.

You think Roddenberry would've let Star Trek have a hundred spin-offs and all these bad movies with bad storylines go on had he lived this long? Where the hell is Nick Meyers when you need him?

 

Its not that I necccesarily want it to go the way Star Trek (Ie bad sequels, bad TV show, bad... well pretty much everything; Enterprise was pretty good though)

It is just that Lucas has become way too rigid in his managing of the franchise. I think a fresh perspective at the helm would be a shot in the arm. Someone that is open to someone else's ideas and thoughts and willing to listen to Fan Feedback. Granted, yes he started the Franchise and it was his vision, but at this point he is surrounded by sycophants (Rick McCallum anyone) that nod their heads so fast, I am surprised that those making of's don't have half the team with neck braces.

It was obvious what needed to be done to improve the series and the prequals, but Lucas insulated himself off from the Fan BAse for a lot of it. Yes ROTS was the best by far, but this was supposed to surpase Empire in terms of the best of the series. And with a few minor tweaks it still can.

But no Qui-Gon, a bad dark side turn, some pretty horrible acting at turns, and some storyline flaws (Sifo Dyas was huge)

So perhaps a freash perspective may have helped this series immensly
