It's a trivia contest played by 12 people. Instead of a million dollars though, the winner gets colors, and each looser gets a 24 hour game ban.

So, it's an initiation ritual, and the winner gets to join a gang. Got it.

Except you don't have to choose to be a Jet or a Shark.

There might be a dance off required though.

Wow. I just got quite a shock.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm starting a job search with the goal of leaving the DC area around June. Well, on Thursday, I posted my resume to one of those mega job sites, and I've gotten quite a response from all over the country.

Today, I got a call from someone looking for a Unix admin in the DC area, and they made the mistake of naming a price in the initial stages. They essentially offered me a $15000 raise to stay in the DC area and do more or less what I am doing now.

I knew that I was underpaid at my current job (I took a more junior position on purpose because I was switching fields), but I hadn't realized it was that low.

But you know what? I'm turning them down (well, I will turn them down). $15000 isn't enough for me to stay here with all of the stress, the long commute (1 hour on the bus/train, each way), and the odd hours. I'm leaving DC, not tying myself down even more.

But still, it's nice to know what some people think that I'm worth at first glance.

You can always come to Utah. I can't say I know many womens to hook you up with though. :p

wait.... would that be hooking him up with many women, or having many women to choose from to hook him up with?

You would probably laugh, but six months ago, Utah would have been at the bottom of my list of places to look for a job.

However, Friday I got a call from a recruiter looking for a Unix admin in Logan. It just so happens that my younger sister lives in Logan with my newest nephew (who is named after my guinea pig), and her husband is about to deploy to Afghanistan for a year. I don't have details on the position there, but it's definitely under consideration. She tells me that I would be a very hot commodity there - a single young man with a stable and secure, well-paying job. I believe her exact words were that I would be seen as "a slab of meat - prime rib."

I suppose that's true enough, I guess I am just overly picky for no good reason.

"slab of meat - prime rib."

Not bad. I'm more of a flank steak.

I had a dream I was making chicken en mole, but I didn't have chicken and everyone was hungry and wanted to eat it. It was very disturbing.

Also, I just applied for a job and put DC as one of my locations. Now I read this thread and hear it is stressful. Oh well, everyone says you go to DC and come back majorly promoted. Hmmm....not that I am banking on getting it or taking it even if I do.

I've seen him on MSN a few times. I imagine he's busy, fighting off terrorists with a copy of the Economist.

Kudos to whoever first made that joke. :p

I've been ridiculously busy and burnt out on this place. I am doing a very intense diploma in financial markets, which is usually 50 A4 pages a week of writing. Plus I'm busy socially, I was seeing someone (giggity), I still play World of Warcraft 2 nights a week and I've been commuting to Sydney every weekend pretty much since Jan 1.

Long story short, I'm leaving government after 2 years in international relations and international policy. I'm going into the financial industry. Lost will appreciate this bit more - I'm moving back to Sydney from Canberra.

However, with Senate Estimates and my leaving and the like, i've had so much work to do at home and at work that the JC just had to be the lamb I sacrificed.

So this week, I move back to Sydney, start a new job, leave a boring town and a pining girl behind and start afresh. I may be on here more, I will have to see how it goes.

    Uh, crap...

At the weekend, I visited my tailor and over cognac we discussed the silk trade and its importance in bringing China to the world. After that, I dressed in a dinner jacket and played baccarat until the later hours of the morning. I banco'd an amazing five times in a row, lost one hand, then another which I managed to suivee back in my favour...

    Better?
