It does not bother me. Russel is a good actor.

I don't even think Tom Cruise seems bad in real life, he always seemed like a nice fellow to me, he just happens to have some unorthodox religious beliefs. Who cares?

As a result of this thread, I am going to boycott any film that contains actors I have not met and had the chance to form an detailed opinion on. :p

That's exactly the reason i won't be at the premier of your film, "I Gots the Liverpool Blues".

Russell Crowe is indeed a jerk, but he's the great, trueblueavvagomategoodonyamyson type, as opposed to Tom Cruise, who is just a jerk.

More relevantly, Joaquin Phoenix > Russell Crowe.

You could have changed actors for Maximus and been fine. I honestly don't think it required that much talent. He just looked badass and beat things up. Without Phoenix's inspired interpretation of Commodus, I wouldn't have liked that film much.

I find this is fairly typical of Crowe films. He plays a lot of jerks who all seem pretty much the same. The exception I've seen is A Beautiful Mind. But I've still hardly ever seen the man's face change expressions, no matter what kind of character he's playing.

In conclusion, his being a jerk isn't an automatic hit against him. I'll see stuff with actors I don't like personally. But it doesn't help. Even if he were actually a really good actor, he would never be one of my favourites because of his personality. I appreciate any talent, but only respect talent that comes from a good person.

"In the early hours of November 14, 2002, Crowe, in London to attend the funeral of friend and Gladiator costar Richard Harris, ran into another New Zealander Eric Watson at the trendy London restaurant Zuma. According to eyewitness reports the scuffle broke-out in the restroom of the restaurant where Watson was found on top of the Oscar winner (who was on the floor), apparently giving him a good pounding. Crowe and Watson reportedly have a strained relationship, apparently dating back to a fight over a woman two years ago." -Wikipedia.

Yeah, I think this is true, and why he doesn't bother me so much. He's certainly a very interesting character and not one of those affected Hollywood types. Not that I think he should be throwing phones at people. :p

And I think he's a great actor. Gladiator is one of my favorite films, and I pretty much like everything he's done.

I don't boycott his movies, but I'm never in a hurry to see them either. Add to that the fact that watching Renee Z. if painful (I don't know how to spell her last name and I'm not gonna learn) and you can see why I haven't seen Cinderella Man yet. When it costs $2 to rent, maybe then...
