I haven’t seen the Peter Pan movie since I was in diapers so none of that resonated with me whatsoever.

But yes, add that to the millions of reasons I don’t pay for Disney +

Also the YouTube comment section [face_rofl]

I love the part where they are making comments about unoriginality and tireless virtue signalling while not commenting on anything of the movie itself other than how all these Disney remakes of parodying themselves at this point.

    :p

edit: the same type of comments are found on The Little Mermaid trailer:

I haven't seen this yet, but oof

Also if they weren't all boys, couldn't they just call them Lost Children?

the fact they just had to put it in the trailer too,

They must really enjoy publicity....any publicity.

Yeah, it's definitely on purpose, you have a point. It's one thing to put it in the movie, it's entirely another to make that the way you advertise it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bothered by it because that wouldn't be healthy if I was, but given that it's clear that not all the Lost Boys are or identify as boys, I think it's ironically less progressive than what they're going for. Like, isn't the term "boys" less inclusive.

Anyway, I think it's very safe to assume there won't be any Native Americans in this one. Also, I'm calling it, there probably won't be a cut-and-dry boy-girl heterosexual romance between Wendy or Peter Pan or anyone else.

yeah what matters at the end of the day for me is "is it a good movie?"
There seems to be a bit of trend going on here, where messaging seems to be the focus over story-telling. I'm not really fussed about this trend. If I want a lecture, I'd go to church, not a movie theater, if I wanted to see a movie about I dunno, the oppressions of the ancients I'd see a movie about that issue. I wouldn't go and see Rocky III.
And the trend seems to be "you don't like our dull, unoriginal bland movie? oh you must be an ist....or a phobe"
no...I just want a good movie. Like they used to make.

I think the worst part is the Disney “adult” types who think that if you reject the work of one of the most powerful corporations on the planet you’re somehow elitist (or worse). They’re basically ultra-capitalists at this point

Well I don't even agree that Disney is hitting hard with messaging. I guess recently their moralism is much clearer and black/white, but Disney isn't alone in that; that's just the era we're living in, people do not like moral ambiguity. Disney is just a lot more reductive in their messaging because they want to avoid controversy (or alternatively they want to court controversy but only if it lets them assume their "right side of history" posture).

If you notice, Disney movies have less of a thesis now than in the past. If you count the representation and identity politics, yes, they're heavy on the messaging, but more broadly the last few movies haven't been anything beyond "something something family" or "something something friends". They're no deeper than the Fast and Furious movies. Strange World was an environmental allegory and I kind of liked that about it TBH, but it was so one-dimensional and simple that I guessed it would be an environmentalist message a little after the halfway point, so it just made the movie silly and underwhelming. I don't know what the moral of Lightyear was. Maybe sometimes misfits can save the day? Or maybe don't try to leave an alien planet once you crash land? The first Frozen was about accepting people who are different and being okay with who you are, but what was the second Frozen about? As long as you're the main character and perceived as a feminist character, it's okay to make your friends' and family's lives harder?

I guess you could say Disney movies are/have always been heavy on "messaging" but what they used to get right but have lost the ability to do is write myth; to write allegory.

    yeah,

the second movie was basically "Wow who knew Elsa would be so popular? let's make her a goddess!"
I didn't really mind she 'abdicated to be free with nature' aspect. Anna was far more suited for it as she was a people person.
But the making the whole movie 'how can we make Elsa even MORE awesome and empowering? make her a nature deity' was yeah....underwhelming in the least.
And this isn't even about being bothered about Elsa in particular, I love me so strong kick ass females, Illyana, Esme, literally anyone Emma Roberts plays etc, heck even Tia (my sith character fits in with the whole strong female camp and she's only seven....or nineteen depending on the RPG) what bothered me about Frozen II was the whole lack of an interesting plot structure around it.
Also, people complaining about Ariel's skin tone...give it a rest, if the movie is good (which I doubt it will be) it should be, imo, a none issue. It only becomes an issue if they make a big thing about in the plot narrative itself (as it shouldn't be an issue at all)
