I hate googling...95% of my knowledge comes from small rectangular objects that are called books

others from documentaries I watch

 

Actually it's the other way around, the Japanese original called him Eggman, while the US went with Robotnik

Although, in canon (yes, the ultra important lore of the Sonic the Hedgehog canon) his name is really Robotnik and Eggman is a nickname that he uses more often than Robotnik

 

oh I thought Japanese used Robotnik too, hmm.

I like Sonic 1 to Sonic and Knuckles....then they went 3D worlds/gameplay which sucked

 

You might like Generations, Dandy, that has 2D gameplay for half the stages (plus a semi 3D/sometimes 2D style for the other half)

Or Sonic Mania, which is pretty much a new retro game made in 2017 :


I got it free with PS+, but it was too hard so I couldn't get past the third stage. Plus the visuals were so flashy they hurt my eyes
