The droid invasion of Dathomir is like the invasions their doing to Maul's forces on these Shadow Collective hideout bases on diffferent planets - but Maul has fighter support where his Guantlet fighters are apparently armed heavily enough to take down big CIS command ships, dreadnoughts and capital ships. Watching the cartoon there seems to be a lot of Nightbrothers but apparently Viscus took his best men among them to aid Maul, not sure what other reinforcements they can call upon as the Droid army in the toon is apparently endless. Wonder how things went on Mandalore, did Paplatine order a Republic invasion or did Maul's plan of a shadow rule payoff with Almec with Bo-Katain leading some resistence. Oddly enough she fled with only a few members of Death Watch but by the later toons she looks like she's got a small army and Maul's forces of Mandos look pretty endless themselves until the writers deem otherwise. The next comic is supposed to have some Jedi task force coming probably Sidious' doing as Palpatine to help do his dirty work, maybe Clones are involved now. Would be cool if Maul captures some cloning planet or sakes Kamino to rebuild his Mandalorian elite forces.

Well, in that special Panini issue 13 "Sith hunters", at the planet Pleem's Nexus, Savage Opress is tearing off this mask from the face of Jedi-master Plo Koon. Can it be torn off and fixed again that easy? I don't see that Plo Koon is getting his mask back in that comic. Or took Savage it away as a kind of souvenir?

I hope it is allowed to post something after my last contribution here for there are almost two weeks gone since and my questions about Savage still never cease ;)

Does somebody know what happened in Episode "Brothers" Season 4 in the Cantina where Savage was, while searching for his lost Brother Maul? He messed up things there but though I saw the episode several times I didn't found any reason for his violent behavior there. Or do I complicate things to much and Savage just doesn't need a reason for behaving rude and violent when he is in the mood for?

And secondly: When Savage had this last fight with Ventress she sent his brother Feral away. She apparently wanted to be along with Savage and she seemed to like the fight with him. Now I read in "The courtship of Princess Leia", that it is a custom in Dathomir that the witches there are just coming during pairing-time (whenever this may be) into the village of the Nightbrothers, looking for a man they like and then they capture him to serve them like a slave. Could it be that Savage was a certain time together with Ventress like a couple till she handed him over to Mother Talzin to finish the design for the perfect tool to carry out Ventress' Order66 when time may have arrived. Or was there not sufficient time for more intimacy between Savage/Ventress? Somewhere I have read they were together like a couple for a time. But I have no nearer clue about this.

Savage was staring at a holomap of the galaxy while the waitresses tried to get his attention. The human Sassi tried to strike up a conversation with him, and later commented on his necklace and reached for it out of curiosity. That's what made Savage snap. I saw the scene on Youtube once but it seems to have been removed.

Savage and Ventress were most certainly NOT a couple. Ventress came to the Nightbrother village under the pretense of selecting a mate, but in reality she was just after a pawn. The Nightbrothers were left unaware of the truth, which is why Brother Viscus says "one of [Talzin]'s women took [Savage] as a mate" in Witches of the Mist.

He was her mate as well as her would be secret apprentice against Count Dooku. She wouldve had to reproduce at some point as per the clan's culture which she adopted. She did seem smitten with his physicality and looks along with demeanor as he was the strongest and held his own against her and she was using for Jedi/Sith training against all the brothers minus her lightsabers - they stood no chance with her but he did. Savage may of had latent force ability as he was anticipating her shadow strikes with the ax or scythe or whatever weapons she was using to take out each brother one by one that she picked off. His reflexes were attuned with the force.

Her allying herself with Kenobi seems to be the only time she went after him out've spite for "betraying her", she was no match for Opress once he was free of the spells and Dooku's chains as he had every bit of Sith training she had plus magik enchantment which apparently can turn you into a force monster. If things were that easy Talzin could've just magiked Ventress after her failures and turn her into a suped up version of herself.

Do we know whether or not Savage was Force-sensitive before the spell was put on him?

Maul was a natural Force user. It stands to reason that Force sensitivity is a fairly common attribute in their bloodline.

Plus, if Force sensitivity could be acquired through magic, then Talzin would've given it to herself long ago.

His reflexes would be the only clue imo. Much like Anakin from TPM, when Jinn mentions he must have Jedi reflexes for a human to fly in the pod racers. Talzin refers to him as the perfect male specimen so she suspected either Savage or Feral would end up chosen as part of her grander design as she sold Savage off as part of Maul's bloodline. He just never had Sith training as a child to adult to ever hone his abilities like Maul did. Talzin apparently sped up the whole process with her magiks and relied on Dooku training Savage in the Sith ways - which he would need to learn the force in order for the talisman to work in tracking down his kin. I am curious how much time he had under Dooku, the toon makes it seem like a day or two, lol. I would wager 3-6 months, certain no more as an entire year would throw things off as these toons are right before the events of ROTS.

3 months is far too long. Anakin and Obi-Wan begin their investigation in earnest after Halsey and Knox's bodies are returned to the temple, which gives Savage no more than a week's training at absolute maximum.

I wouldnt think so, would make sense from a logically and routine Basic Training course standpoint as well I would say. 1 week or less is a rather preposterous time table. We also have to pretend Star Wars is taken place a real world, space travel, communication and other basic laws would still have to apply , to squeeze everything into a half hour episodes and jedi figuring everything out in seconds and often off camera somewhere, is just taking the cartoon for a cartoon and well completely fake. That said, there is no in verse logical or sound reasoning in behind Ventress giving Savage a week or less with Dooku that would somehow make him "ready" to destroy him, unless these writers are on crack. Without force lightning Savage wouldve killed both Dooku and Ventress both right there and then. Whatever lightsaber training Dooku gave Savage he was enough of a rival him and easily parried away Ventress who was a seasoned force warrior and Dooku was a master swordsman and former grandmaster Jedi with over 60 years of experience.

Savage wasn't ready to take on Dooku. That was the entire point. Talzin wanted Savage to fail and return to her so she could send him after Maul.

Talzin: "The time has come, sister. You must put your plot against Dooku into effect now."
Ventress: "He isn't ready Mother, he needs more training."
Talzin: "He has to be ready. Together the two of you will be able to eliminate the Count, but you must act now. We cannot keep your new assassin a secret forever."

He was ready enough according to Ventress. He just didnt know how to defend against Sith Lightning, which apparently under these writers neither did Maul.

I would suspect that Savage needed some level of Midiclorians in his blood stream(thus a "natural" force sensitive), thus the whole need for him finding Maul and all of that build up about bloodlines, in order for the Talzin's magikal transformation to take effect...otherwise it was lamebrain sending in Nightbrothers to face Dooku without the same supernatural suped up bodies and even with those bodies Savage still needed Dooku to learn the force - which is something Talzin does not posses "naturally" and could not give to him or teach him with or without her magik alternations. Having said that, there is no logical reason why Talzin did not give the Nightbrothers any enchantments like the cloak of invisibility or some poison darts again as not being force sensitives they stood no chance and melee weapons including Electro staffs are no match to often comical when up against a lightsaber.

Ah, you are such attentive observers :)

    Hi Shadow Emperor,

thank you for giving me the details of about what happened in the Cantina thus de-monster Savage a bit. I would like so much seeing this too. But sure, a guy like Savage Opress can't just go around being unnoticed. [face_laugh]

    Hi Vorax,

I can't believe his training with Dooku did last just one week. Maybe Mother Talzin speeded up the process a bit but TCW-makers speeded and summed it up even much more than is to be seen on screen. Otherwise they had to make a movie about Savage Opress to show it all in reasonable epic length but there are not even drinking bottles with his face available now. :( Actually I thought he spent years in Serenno and he had pretty time for this while Maul was abandoned in Lotho Minor.

I also noticed the voluptuous look Ventress gave the holo-picture of Savage when she was in this bounty-hunter meeting-bar. She didn't look like going for bounty but she behaved like being in a dating cafe. And one can only speculate what have happened when she would have found her former mate alone at Raydonia without Maul and Kenobi being around. I found it also funny how she underestimated Maul at that moment in the space-ship.

BTW: Can somebody tell me where Savage did loose a second horn? The first he lost in the fight with Ventress and Dooku. But then I discovered suddenly a second trunk on his head. Any ideas about the whereabouts?

Maybe during battle on Florum with Gallia.

*Meant Talzin not Ventress, ready enough for Talzin. But these events occur over stretches of months in-universe not hours or days.

I believe Savage Opress loses that chunk of his horn off-screen in between episodes. Perhaps it's covered in a comic?

He loses it in Revival when Obi-Wan cuts off his arm.

I'm not a fan of it, personally. Would've preferred they cut off his right arm instead to compensate for the loss of the horn on the other side, but nooo, they had to go and be all asymmetrical with his injuries.

By the way, in the scene where Savage attacks the Temple of Eedit, you can see the burn marks prematurely applied to the horns that will later be damaged in the following episode.

This error is also present in certain official renders, including this one:

So it was on Florum .

Apparently the separatists lost that temple and planet shortly after Savage left, cause Boss and the Commandos recover the bodies and there is always holgrams laying around on record- guess they could not hold it despite it being so vital a target, lol. Surprose Savage didnt file his broken horns into points instead of leaving them stumps.

Maybe the Jedi didn't expect somebody being that bold to attack the Jedi-Temple that bluntly, brute and alone. And they have not enough forces to defend it hence during the civil war.

I also wondered why Savage's horns didn't grow again. Or was there to little time? When I think that Maul was in LM from 32BYC until 20BYC till Savage found him, that means they had at utmost three years (when TCW cover the years 19-17BYC) till they conquered Mandalore. I guess the Brothers needed about at least one year to make all these assaults including money-funding and coalition-building and coordination of their underworld-allies that they may become a reliable base. For the loss of Savage's horns was just in the beginning of that period there should have been enough time for his horns to grow again or he had to undergo a kind of cephalocure like Maul had by Mother Talzin to get rid of these awful terminal-lenght horns he had at Lotho Minor. His horns quite often look a kind of trimmed when I may believe some pictures.

Every time I'm watching TCW I find some other amusing details. For example when Maul is questioning Duchess Satine in S5, "Shades of Reason" in her prison-cell about the other political leaders of Mandalore, Savage is sneaking around her cell ending up standing in front of her putting his left arm in a humiliating provoking dominant gesture away from his body touching with his hand the glass-wall like he wanted to say: 'Hi Babe, there is no escape from our whims anymore.' I think he is passing on all the humiliation he received once from Ventress to poor Satine now in this scene. I also enjoyed the way Maul conversed in a highly civilized, controlled and well-tempered manner with imprisoned Satine using the Pluralis Majestatis on her while she behaved quite uncouth to him calling him monster and using the singular pronoun form while addressing him. That's how civilizations go down [face_laugh] . When the brothers proceeded in their prison walk reaching Almec's cell, Savage just stood there normally without making such intimidating gestures like he did to Satine.

I would think their horns are kinda like Hellboys, they grow back pretty fast and need to be filed, heh. Savage and Maul lose their horns on the same side if I'm right and near same positioned horns - the large horned Maul from the Visionaries comic that is.

While that would make sense about the temple, it would've had to have occurred directly after taking the planet as the bodies were still freshly killed, there was no apparent disfigurement via decaying and its doubtful the Seperatists wouldve just left their bodies laying around for weeks or months nor would of had buried their remains with grave markers. The Separatists forces are too easily routed off the planet which Dooku made a big deal about, sure Dooku couldve lied about its importance but it did not appear to be a lie as Jedi died on this planet defending a temple of some great significance which apparently was enough to have Clones and special forces sent in retake the planet shortly after its fall.

Yea, real reason why Maul impaled Satine upon his blade was cause she called Maul names & was very rude and there he was about to offer her old job back and a chance at killing her enemy Vilza and Bo-Katain, hehe. Funny how Bo-Katain goes from always trying to kill Satine or have her jailed for life to being on fantastic terms all of a sudden and rescuing her. The Death Watch have been trying to kill Satine for years or have her thrown in a dungeon which is another type of death and at some point executed. Short term memory with some of these characters, like all prior crimes and murder attempts can be forgiven and forgotten.

They only appear in "Son of Dathomir" #2 from what I can see, they're absent in #3 and back to only red but this time the Mandos are wearing what appears to be, Clone Trooper like armor. Look at the close ups when Grievious is killing the cell guards.

    Well,

if Savage and Ventress were really mates for sometime is another unsolved and discussed issue for there are some indications they did and some they didn't. Actually such a kind of offspring shown later in Rebels would give interesting villains or maybe even heroes to the Star Wars Universe. I hope Dave Filoni & Co. will read this ;) Also, when Vorax mentioned the yellow-camoed helmets of some Mandalorians as honoring Savage like the re-camoed did honor Lord Maul, there was an idea coming into my mind that Savage may have found some attractive female Mandos in this his special corps who weren't such hostile and reserved like Bo-Katan was with the Brothers. That also could add a nice Zabrakish legacy to Mandalore and to Star Wars. A living legacy which Savage's murderer Sidious wasn't able to produce.

Talzin was the secret deity or leader of Flanglaw cult off world. So she apparently made trips to this planet every so often and the cult is run by males. If Nightsisters are loyal only to themselves, then what is she doing off world ruling a male cult that steals force energy, holding attachments to her offspring or atleast Maul.

Savage could've used the heavier armor, lol:
