The PT is amazing, and had a lot to cover, and as George is known for, had rewrites because he puts his all into his work. There were things in his original drafts and how his first thought of them and had ideas for before the final project....Originally it was gonna be Ventress and not dooku for episode 2, so says the internet anyways. A source for that would be great.

So this thread is to talk about things that were gonna be in the movies but didn't make it. One thing I have a theorey about is Obi-Wan fighting Grievous in some cave. The lego games and the episode 3 video game have them fighting in a cave, perhaps it's based on early drafts? Anyone know of things that were to happen? I read somewhere Anakin was gonna be secretly on the dark side killing Jedi one by one but then we got the much better episode 3 version. Concept art had him have a red lightsaber for episode 3 and that wasn't in the film. Anyone got theories or even better, know what was scrapped from being in the movies?

Which info? The dooku ventress thing? I think it was from people's posts on forums. If I'm not sure of something I never say it as a fact or not.

You probably refer to Supershadow. I wish his website was still on. That was the bomb

I know a few dropped/radically altered plot ideas from the PT's development

Most notably I'd say is the entire reason for Anakin's fall. It was primarily political before it was decided it would be better if it was because of love (a good decision, imo)

    - In the revised rough draft of TPM, there's people living on Naboo who want the Trade Federation to invade, Maul talks more, and Obi-Wan has a lot of Qui-Gon's role.

    - Talzin-like and Ventress-like looks were considered for Maul and Dooku

    - Anakin was to turn as soon as he found out that Palpatine = Sidious

    - At one point Palpatine's face was to slowly get transformed throughout the PT by the dark side, at another point Palpatine was going to go back and forth between his Chancellor face and his Emperor face throughout ROTS

    - Palpatine was to say to Anakin, "I influenced the midichlorians to create you."

This is from another thread, it's what I have gathered throughout the years about the original cut of Anakin's turn.

Originally, Palpatine reveals to Anakin that he is the one who started the cell process that created Anakin.
Mace and co get word of Palpatine's true identity independently, without Anakin informing them.
Anakin pledges to the Sith and joins Palpatine before Mace arrives. It was originally more about his greed for power rather than just saving Padme (in this version Anakin was actually granted Mastership but was still not satisfied). If my understanding of versions is accurate, more of the political dialogue that was still prevalent in the final available version of the script was left in. Anakin was originally far more on board with Palpatine's ideology when he joins him, and seemingly the Jedi looked a little less innocent/gullible and a little more eager to get rid of Palpatine from earlier on.

Mace and his posse show up, Mace tells Anakin to stand down, but Anakin refuses to leave Palpatine's side. As is my understanding at first Anakin plays more of a double agent - the Jedi aren't yet aware he is already siding with the Sith (and in one version, not sure if filmed, is secretly killing Jedi without the Jedi knowing who the killer is). Palpatine force-grabs Anakin's saber from him and fights the Jedi. Anakin follows this fight (of course which ends up just Palpatine and Mace) as the three argue.

Eventually we end up again with Palpatine shooting lightning at Mace and Mace blocking. However, Palpatine doesn't feign weakness in this version.
There is kind of a stalemate between Mace and Palpatine, the intensity builds up until finally Anakin chops off Mace's hand and Palpatine kills him.

I'm a big fan of the final cut of the film, Lucas really put a fair bit of effort into the overall saga arc, but this would have been awesome to see nonetheless.

Can people give sources for this stuff? Otherwise it's all earsay. Thanks. Also WOOT WOOT! Wayback machine! Seagoat

I prefer the used version, but reading about what could have been and the different version of films we love is interesting. If some of this is true it adds to the palpetine/plageius created Anakin thing theory.

But yeah needs sources. Also YAY wayback machine! :p

If you were referring to my post; The novelisation of ROTS, the final script that is still available online, talk of the changes to Anakin's turn in the "Making of Revenge of the Sith" book, and lastly discussion among fans on these forums over the years. Some of the points are embellishment on my part, like just how much of the political dialogue still prevalent in the final script made it into the cut that had the original version of the "turn", but most of what I said has been officially confirmed by myself and others.

That Anakin's motives were originally more about his hunger for power and less about saving loved ones has been confirmed by other users at different times. Lucas thought the original cut didn't get the point across enough, so he (arguably) strengthened it by making Anakin's fear of losing Padme play more of a role, making Anakin more sympathetic.

The point that Anakin was actually already granted mastership, but was still being greedy, is something I heard here, not concrete on the original source though.

The idea that the Council were more involved in political plotting is evident if you read the novelisation and the script - for example, in the novel, sending Yoda away to Kashyyyk is partially done by the Council to make the Jedi Order appear vulnerable, hoping to lure the Sith into revealing themselves, but it backfires when Yoda is away from the Temple during Order 66.

It's a shame that there is no script available which reflects the original version of the turn (although "original" is an overused word --- rather, the version which they filmed during principal photography). I am a great fan of the final movie, but it'd be really interesting indeed to read (or watch) the first version

thanks devy for a source, I have that book but I haven't read it yet. it was dirt cheap on amazon, well worth the $$$$$$.

I think people should share what they know, I just don't take it as a fact until I see a source, as the internet is full of liars and people mis informed, so nobody take my speculation as a insult.

I like Anakin wanting to save Padme MUCH more, because being greedy for power is just gonna make him too generic of a villain, but here the pathway to hell for him was paved with good intentions as the saying goes, plus there's no greater motivator then love. SO it made more sense for him to go fro mgood to bad and make a big change exbracing the dark side because of such a powerful pmotivator instead of "I want more power, mwaahahaha now let my twirl my handlebar mustache!"

Personally, I would've enjoyed it more had they put more emphasis on the "lust for power" angle. And although the Padme-saving reason still shows his greedy possessiveness, I think it can come across as too specific of a reason; it works well as a short-term catalyst, but (in my opinion) it's his desire for power/control that keeps him on the dark side once Padme is dead. And so while I do like the Padme reason, I just feel that it overshadows the lust-for-power reason, which I wish had been retained from the original script.

Stuff that was changed in AotC/were supposed to be in RotS but wasn't.
    Sido-Dyas/Sifo-Dyas.

The shooting script had Sido-Dyas, a fake Jedi and Mace and Yoda knew that no such Jedi existed. They suspected someone in the senate for ebing behind the clone army, someone that was out to start a war.
Jango says Darth Tyrannus hired him and Yoda and Mace knows that this person is a Sith.
There was more dialogue in the Jango scene, that Sido-Dyas had handpicked Jango and they had been told to expect him.
During pickups Lucas changed it to Sifo-Dyas, a real, if dead Jedi. The film still implies that someone else placed the order as Sifo-Dyas was apparently dead when the order was placed.
Lucas did say, I think on the commentary of AotC, that we will learn more about Sifo-Dyas in RotS.
    Alas, that didn't happen.

The first draft of TPM had more animosity between the Naboo and Gungans, he was told to follow Obi-Wan on Tatooine because "He was stinking the ship up." Or some such.

    Bye for now.

I think another thread a while ago mentioned that the first draft of TPM had Padme and Anakin flying the Naboo starfighter together during the final battle.

The Jedi were to wear more sleaker armor outfits (see Power of the Jedi Obi Wan and Qui Gon) with Maul wearing a training outfit.

Does Maul surviving scrap him dying? This is still debated.

What i would like to know was there an original idea for TPM for a Dooku type to betray the Council? Or have the Mandolorians fight the Jedi for AOTC?

Both of which i wish started TPM.

The secretsofstarwars site is great for some of our other questions.

I saw somewhere that Lucas once considered Padme bringing a weapon to Mustafar. Also, Anakin would have been accompanied by clones and Padme by handmaidens. He also considered having Boba Fett kill Mace Windu, but decided that Mace would be impossible for a teenager to kill.

There are still photos Of This Being shot in the making of Revenge of the sith book by J.W. Rinzler(fun fact, the director Of tron legacy, bought a copy of the book and liked rinzlers last name so much he used it As the name tron goes by when he works For CLU.

Also There is a part cut out of the film where Anakin and Obi-wan used each others Sabers on mustafar. the saber in obiwans hand switches several times when anakin is choking him Just like the saber Sidious use switches between his and anakins a Few times.
