You did not read my post.

Eh, that's not always the case.

Boyhood, Dangerous Minds, Dirty Dancing, Freaky Friday, Guardians Of The Galaxy, to name a few.

I actually also don't care about success in the box office, as I do not have shares in any studio.

It still remains the most exciting news to me.

I think the old thinking of studios dumping their trash in January, February and August is just that: old thinking. Streaming has fundamentally changed the dynamics of when it's a good or bad time to release something.

Perhaps, but I still think that the box office is advantageous during certain times of the year, due to holidays, and studios prioritise certain films for the best release windows, and ‘dump’ others. For streaming it’s completely different.

It’s not necessarily the case that it will be bad, but it can show the confidence a studio has in their product (which can reflect how the film is testing or turning out from their point of view). Many of those films, while successful, may have been seen as unlikely when the studio was preparing their release. I believe Guardians in particular was regarding as a potential box office bomb.

Two years won't be so bad if they actually put out tv shows in the meantime. They cant even get release dates announced for Acolyte and Skeleton Crew!!!

As for the 2026 dates, the projects are different enough that they won't feel like saturation. They just have to wait to see which one gets a head start on production before announcing which is released in which spots. I am going to assume they will not announce specifics until late this year.

    I mean, they will.
In fact, it's now less than two weeks until The Bad Batch season 3 comes out.
I have a feeling we'll get those release dates very soon. At least The Acolyte.

Acolyte and Skeleton Crew are on the way. Also, what does it mean that LFL can’t get a release date out for those shows? As soon as they do announce them, will you say: “Oh, I guess I was wrong as they were able to announce release dates in the end?” ;)

And then Andor is almost in the can, and we’ll get an announcement on that later in the year.

All with a movie looming in two years.

I’d say Star Wars feels pretty active at the moment.

Star Wars is a dead franchise if you ignore all of the things it’s currently doing across a variety of mediums.

Us here are a very small sample size. I’d wager a large percentage of the people who watch and talk about the shows online aren’t Disney plus subscribers so aren’t contributing to lucasfilms success beyond word of mouth, and the general buzz around Star Wars has decreased since the disappointments of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mando s3, and Ahsoka soured the tv shows for the mainstream casual fans who talk about how much they hated the sequels but briefly liked Mando

This is demonstrably untrue. The Mandalorian was the most watched original TV series of last year, with that source giving Ahsoka as the ninth-most watched. Jedi: Survivor was a huge sales success, the highest selling game on the Playstation store in the US and Europe in April and May, and sales were up 30% from Fallen Order in the UK.

I think this is a "very online" take that's pretty detached from reality. Online echo chamber conversations, whether on here or elsewhere, are not indicative of the world outside social media.

in the world outside social media I see even less excitement around Star Wars, everyone I know in real life is of the opinion that the franchise has been bad since Disney bought it. I haven’t heard any strangers speak excitedly about it since Mando s1. Mando might have been the most watched tv show but that arguably made things worse since a lot of people hated the third season and went straight to YouTube to watch videos enforcing this view. Don’t underestimate how much the front page of YouTube indicates trends which enforce public opinion.

I've rarely ever heard people talk about Star Wars outside of fan circles. That's not saying much.

Judging a franchise’s viability by the people in your social sphere is totally the way to get accurate results.

It's science. After all, one of the most famous theorems, the Pythagorean theorem, is based on something that someone's uncle Pythagoras said.

I've said this before, but don't forget about kids who are growing up with characters like Rey being just as established to their age group as the PT was for me as a kid and OT for my parents generation.

My oldest one will be 7 and 8 when this and the Mando/Grogu movie come out (depending on time of year). She hasn't even seen the actual Mandalorian series beyond a few clips of Grogu and yet loves Grogu and has a few Grogu toys. My almost-2 recognizes Grogu because of this, and just the other day saw a picture of Yoda and called him Grogu because of her older sister's toys. They both have pajamas with Grogu on them and the older one also has some Rey & BB8 pajamas she picked out between other options because she likes those characters too (mostly from the Lego stuff at this point but whatever works lol). She also has for example a stuffed Ahsoka doll and a t-shirt with Ahsoka and Grogu on it. Unless they come out with a PG13 rating (unlikely) for the Rey and Mando movies, she'll be 7/8 and get to go see them in theaters with us a couple times, and will probably also go with both sets of grandparents too.

I assume there are plenty of other kids in her age range +/- some years with similar experiences who will see these multiple times in theaters.

The front page of youtube usually doesn't feature reviews of The Mandalorian, and the general audience are not going to go on youtube to get their opinions validated.

I see a LOT of Grogu merch at work—lunchboxes, backpacks, water bottles, stickers, pajamas on pajama day.

And my casual-fan husband loved Mandalorian.
