And in regards to those last two comments, that's so fun! There's definitely some arguments you can make about both just from this episode alone. Maybe some of this is a pump fake at this point. I personally just think there's so much fear from her, even Marrok who is literal nightsister magic seems to trigger that anxiety in her, they really focused on her reaction to that for a longer time than expected. It breaks her concentration and the kind of 'disassociation' that I think she fights with. The emotions absolutely cloud her judgement in these instances.

I think that fear carries over with Baylan too in a more extreme way considering her dependency on him. It's why, if he does go down in some way, there's no version of that where I don't see her going to the dark. However, there are still other possibilities available, and I'm interested to see what they do.

Really loved what they gave Shin in this episode, the super extra flip off of her robe was just the beginning. Loved seeing the design of the costume underneath in full, it's fantastic. A bit more dialogue was nice, and I agree, I wished they just let Ivanna Sakhno go with her accent. She's doing a really fantastic job though, so much of this character comes down to the way she emotes because even though there was more dialogue, it's still a character who leans quieter.

I enjoyed her fight with Sabine for the most part, I do think the ending is a bit weird unless the implication is that she feels that her master needs her help and takes off for that. The editing does seem to imply that, as does leaving her lightsaber behind. That's a very reactive move considering she could have just picked it up with the force if she wasn't in such a rush. As such, that's the way I see it too, plus Baylan does say to stall them, its not actually a 'go kill them' order. The force choke was a cool moment that definitely lends more creedence to the way fear is controlling her right now. Baylan snaps her out, but without him...I don't know what could.

    Either way, great episode!

I think usually 99.9% of the time. You’ll get a better performance out of an actor or actress if they are using they normal voice. The closer you get to that the better.

now there are exceptions and when I say 99.9% I mean like best actress or actor level contender.

    Ivanna’s performance is still excellent.

I love this actress, she reminds me of Gigi Edgley in Farscape, with more darkness than goofiness, but very good one. I cannot imagine she survives this series, but I would like to see it.

All I know is that Shin's dark side stuff is kind of quietly (and likely deliberately) contrasting with her master's type of dark side stuff, possibly as a bit of a in media res deconstruction of Baylan's more cynical and faux-enlightened philosophy.

Baylan's clearly become convicted against Jedi ideals and virtues as weaknesses or even parts of a brutal, bloody cycle of chaos that needs to be stopped. He's cold, calculating, and his dark side stuff is thus not the usual emotional instability-laced mess of previous dark siders and Sith. He likely sees his future Order (whatever he calls it) as professionally detached, ruthlessly pragmatic, and very "necessary Lawful Evil."

....But that's an unhealthy and heavily flawed paradigm to practice, let alone train someone in, so despite all his expressed ideals and generally disciplined nature, he's raising an unstable, emotional, and much more traditionally "disturbed" dark sider in Shin, held in check by what seems to be devotion and faith in Baylan.

He's lost faith in the worst way, but Shin hasn't lost faith, also in the worst way.

Baylan doesn't seem like he could grow worse, but I don't think he could improve either - he's sunk to his maximum depth of dark side corruption, and his convictions define him. Shin feels like she needs therapy, in a way that could help her recover, and where if she didn't get it, she'd be more likely to fall further than Baylan.

Baylan has a remarkable ability to sense people’s feelings through the force, to know their inner selves. He used this power to manipulate Sabine, and he has probably used it on Shin too, many times or as often as needed. Shin may want this power for herself one day and her loyalty to him is practicality, in a sense, she knows that if she ever turned from him he will know of it even before she does. She has no secrets to keep from him.

I really like her. For any number of possible reasons, Shin seems to strive for power. Maybe she was trained to do so by Baylan, or she had an early age trauma and is trying to protect herself. Perhaps, even, she has hidden ambitions she aims to achieve by following him.

In any case, power seems to be the key: how arrogant she feels against a perceived weaker opponent; how afraid she was when losing Marrok support and having the odds against her; how enraged she acted against Sabine for making her look weak in front of her master.

To me, it looks like power could just be the mean to an end for Baylan, but for Shin, it's the goal. It sets very interesting dynamics between them and Morgan, and eventually Thrawn. And Ivanna Sahkno is charismatic in the role, giving nuanced performances with not that much screen time...

I think it's more about her training being rooted in the more disciplined way of the Jedi. Both times I got the feeling that she was fighting her urge to finish Sabine but left because her mission was done. She seems to have a little bit of Anakin's petulance in her.

I don't think her or her master are proper dark siders. But i do wonder whether she will stab Baylan in the back and go full dark side.

I liked Shin's little hop down. It reminded me of Grover Dill, the toadie of Scut Farkus, when he dropped down from the steel drum.

Same. Every time I watch that scene. She says it in such a low, sinister, yet playful, voice.

Do you think Shin was a little bit sad when Ahsoka killed Marrok? Just a little bit [face_thinking]

I definitely wouldn't mind if she was his daughter, but I also don't know how much that actually matters considering the way they've told their story/relationship thus far.

It's very obvious to me that they're pulling on a father/daughter thread from a thematic standpoint whether they're related by blood or not.

Sabine had an opening there to kill Shin while she was distracted by Marrok's "death" but didn't act on it. At least that's what I thought to my self when I saw that scene. I guess she was equally as distracted.

Wonder if it is going to be a flashback about how Baylan found young Shin, while she already killed someone,
