One of the times I went to see the film, could have been the digital version, the Clonetrooper replied "We're out of ordinance, sir". That might be the line from the script too, not sure which works better though.

I think he was probably too far away for that. The Force doen't work for everything, if it did, there really needed only to be one film. Obi Wan uses the Force to blow up the Death Star and Vader, we all go home happy.

After seeing Order 66, I think it was Clone programming at the time not to kill Dooku, besides, he was likely the one who went to Kamino to put the order in for the army. He likely elected to take the "Clone's won't kill you" insurance policy.

I've always been annoyed by this plot line. If Dooko was really that dangerous you think the clones would do anything they could to take him out.
ie: shoot lasers at him, shoot at him with guns, fly the airship into him kamakazi style, throw a jedi at him, anything!!!

Calmly saying, "out of rockets, sorry..." upset me. I'll get over it though.

There's no way the clones were programmed not to kill Dooku for several reasons.

1.) How did they know for certain that it was Dooku they were chasing?

2.) An order like that could inevitably lead to the Jedi becoming wise to Palpatine quicker.

    "Shoot him down!"
    "We're out of rockets, sir!"
    "Well, use your lasers!"
    "Umm...."
"Didn't you hear me? Shoot him down!"
    "No!"

    See?

I completely understand the point of the line (to let the audience know that they couldn't simply shoot Dooku down), but it's still botched. There's no reason in the film that they couldn't use laser guns. All it would have taken is a blast to cripple the ship, anything, to fix this scene.

Well... we can not undone that now... as well as Grievous' ship entering Coruscant burning while Tantive IV does not!!!

Uhhh...that would be because the Invisible Hand was just falling out of the sky, a completely non-controlled re-entry. The Tantive IV was controlled. There's no issue here.

The clones were obviously ordered not to shoot a Sith. Yeah, they have to obey a higher up, but the "don't shoot Sith" order comes from Palpatine. There is no higher up than that.

The rockets are the only forward facing air-to-air weapons the ship has. The blasters aren't possible to use since they are all angled down.

The movie does support the "no Sith" thing. Where do you see clones shooting, or shooting at, a Sith?

The only screw up is Anakin and Obi-wan. They make no effort at all to stop Dooku with the Force. Then again, they don't use it on the buzz droids either. And Yoda "catches" the toppling pillar instead of just shoving it in another direction. I guess the Jedi just aren't very smart.

    Hmm..let's see this..

*Obi-Wan and Anakin smack Dooku into the ground with the Force*

    Obi-Wan: "Well..um..."

    Anakin: "Yeah."

Obi-Wan: "I guess we'll go pick up Padme now."

    Anakin: "Right."

THey didn't because it would have been FREAKING BORING!

I still think it was sheer bad timing that Anakin and Obi-Wan happened to run into Dooku without any ammo. The thing about Palpatine is that he doesn't have to micromanage things. Dooku won't get shot down simply because he's not meant to die. Even if the gunship had rockets, things would have played out differently so that Dooku would make it to the hangar and escape to Coruscant.

It also works for that one scene in ROTS where Yoda almost gets hit by a blaster bolt. What would have happened if it hit him? The great Jedi master of over 800 years goes down to a random blaster shot? That's just...not how Star Wars works.

Duhhh, Anakin told them: "It's Dooku! Shoot him down."

The speeder was moving too fast for the Clones to make a direct hit with the laser guns and plus, they had to deal with his escort droids that were shooting behind them which is why they couldn't shoot him down.

The clones aren't programmed-they aren't driods. They are trained and conditioned and brainwashed-but not programmed. Order 66 was a contigancy plan. I don't think the clones ever expected to use it, but when the time came, they followed their orders.

The clones were loyal to the republic/empire, not the Sith. They were out of air-to air rockets (check under the wings-the missles that take out the TU ship are mass drivers and are strictly air to ground). The lasers had a low chance of hitting Doku. Don't know why they didn't even try-maybe they aren't smart.

ALso, the clones tired to shoot down Doku's ship later.

I've been reading these whole two pages, and I still haven't seen someone mention this:

Lama Su:"They are totally obedient, taking any order without question

Anakin: "It's Dooku, shoot him down!"

Clone Trooper: "We're out of rockets, sir!"

****Directly after the CT says that****

    Anakin: "Follow him!"

Since Anakin told the CT directly after he mentioned being out of rockets, his intentions went from shooting him down to simply following him. It's not a plot-hole, or a mess up on Lucas' part, he was simply following up on a point that was established earlier in the film.

I saw an even bigger plot hole in Return of the Jedi. One I hadn't really noticed before.
But when the Millennium Falcon and other rebel ships are flying inside the Death Star, followed by at least one Tie Fighter, how come that Tie Fighter doesn't try shoot them down? It doesn't shoot at them at all. It almost looks like it's just tailgating, following them for the ride....
So, yes, those turrets on the gunships can shoot pretty forward, just go watch some of the other scenes, and the pilot could have angled it to shoot Dooku. But having said that, I'm beginning to agree with the whole "clones won't shoot a Sith" idea.

ok the main part of order 66 was that it had to be activated.....right? i mean didnt palpatine have to activate those orders?...

also we only counted 6 missiles and then the reaload.....but that was war, a battle ground that is ....do you really expect them to fire only when the cameras on their guns?

and come one anakin and obi-wan were not strong enough in the force... to take out an entire ship. it wasnt until anakin became vader that he good force choke an entire planet.

Actually, they couldn't blast Dooks because gunship weapons are calibrated to provide support for troopers on the ground. Not because the Clones couldn't shoot a Sith. If that was true, Alpha wouldn't have tried to kill Ventress or Grievous in Obsession.

They could at least use their lasers. Why missles? Doesn't lasers have infinite ammo in starships?

Wait! I finally have the answer! At least Comander 5052 had enough sense to say it...here's the full answer nonetheless.

Star Wars Insider Magazine #70:Star Wars Q&A with Pablo Hidalgo (Who Runs The OS)

Why didn't the Republic Gunship chasing Count Dooku use it's front laser cannons to shoot him down, since it was out of rockets?

As a ground support craft, most of the weapons aboard a Republic LAAT Gunship are for air-to-ground use. This includes its forward cannons that naturally pivot low and are meant to fire at ground-based targets, and the articulated spheroid cannons. It's rockets are both air-to-surface (as experienced by the Hailfire Droids) and air-to-air (as witnessed by attacks on the core ships). Sure, clones can think more independently than droids, but in this case, the pilot was operating the LAAT by the manual. To properly target the speeder, it would have had to increase altitude, making it a more visible target.

Of course, in my experience, some people won't agree, and will pointlessly, endlessly, debate.:)

Clones are conditioned, not programmed with Order 66.

They could have shot at Dooku causing him to have to jump off his speeder at the last minute, landing on the ground. Obi-Wan and Anakin could have then jumped after him and they could have fought outside rather than in the hanger. Padme could have led the clones back to Yoda where Yoda could arrive to fight Dooku and things could have worked out well, and shown that not everyone dies when they are shot down.

OK, and the problem with that is ?? They were already a good target before.

Seeing just How far down the lasers pivot, I would say, since this is a moving target, it would have to go a little, well, higher.

For the same reason Obi-wan & Anakin could'nt use the force in ROTS to get rid of the buzz droids on Obi-wan Fighter
