My preference is that creators make the shows as long or short as the story they are telling dictates. SW shows do not appear trapped into some 8 episode formula. I think trying to force a story into a predetermined format leads to uneven pacing, and choppy story lines. I think this happened to The Acolyte, the breaking up of episodes so the story suffered as a whole. As much as I often want more for the sake of more, doesn't mean it's bests for overall outcome. Going back to watch 22 episodes in seasons can illustrate the true meaning of filler.

Agreed. My point is that a lot of seasons of TV these days feel oddly truncated because of studios insisting on a small number of episodes. Studios should probably listen to the creators more on this one, and give them the necessary leeway to tell a story in the time it creatively requires. I think Mando S1 worked wonders with really short episodes and a pretty short season. And Andor worked wonders with longer run times and a whopping twelve episodes. As did Béla Tarr with his 7.5 hour movie Satantango. Stop forcing stories into studio-mandated runtimes, and I think we’ll get better stories.

There really isn't anything to have to reach for here...she looks amazing, is very mysterious and is beautiful. I hope she is explored more but we may lose that mystique.
As for the Sabine angle, I get what many are saying and each side makes solid points (like Oissan and Daxon). My take is just why would Filoni pick her? It's just an odd choice when during the whole series of Rebels it wasn't hinted at once (I get it, she waved a darksaber in the air once). Her and Ahsoka never trained once let alone have any interaction. Plus she never was obsessed with Ezra like she is in the show. I think Filoni wanted an apprentice for Ahsoka asap and just put her in and made it happen to help his show. It's much more interesting watching a beautiful Sabine train then a young Jacen kid or a baby Grogu. Although many would argue for that little green guy.

I enjoyed the show and thought it was good intrigue and fun. Like others have said, there was a drop off toward the end with a lot of scenes that make you shake your head. I'm extremely excited to see where the story goes and glad we will see Thrawn post ROTJ, just like in HTTE!

Briefly on Shin, I think she's interesting to watch for her naivete and the line she walks between control and chaos.

There wasn't something conclusive, but the assertion that there wasn't even a hint (in two recent comments) is odd to me. At one point in Sabine's development, Hera notes that she's "sounding more like a Jedi than a Mandalorian." Then there's Trials of the Darksber, in which she learns about the interplay among the kyber crystal, the saber, and the wielder. Kanan points out that, "The Force resides in all living things, but you have to be open to it." Sabine's progression could be described as her becoming more open. And indeed, in Season 4, she hears voices when traveling with the Loth-wolves while Zeb does not.

She was fairly shaken at his departure, and determined to figure out what he was counting on her to do. Then add about ten years, during which her family were killed in the purge on Mandalore.

Very much so. This would add some gravitas to her decisions, okay I see that. Forgot about that Rebels episode. I mean she has trained under Kanan, learned about the Force being in the Phoenix Squadron family and then tasked with understanding where Ezra dissapeared to...this would make any non Force user want to learn more quickly to help find their friend.
I think having her not be in such a huge Force push scene would help, maybe having her struggle to find it and a smaller Force accomplishment would've played out better.

To the original question of the thread, my answer is yes. Making a live action sequel show to a beloved but hardly well-known animated show was a mistake and it cost Filoni badly.

In what way did it "cost Filoni badly"?
By all measures it was a success. He's been given a second season and a movie off of it.

I never heard of the movie again, second season came late and no further project of his moved into production. My subjective impression only … but I had the impression he would get a string of ideas out there and now got one more season of one show coming out years after Season 1 lined up and that’s all. Again … just my impression.

"No further project of his moved into production"? Which projects would that even be? He's working on Ahsoka season 2.
And he had Tales of the Empire last year.

In theory is it a mistake to make a live action show as a sequel to an animated show? Yes because you have no idea what is going on in rebels unless you have seen rebels. Which does alienate people who don't want to watch the animated show. I imagine Filoni see it like well who hasn't watched rebels? Everyone has watched my show! But probably not true.

Did it affect Ashoka? Its hard to say since a lot of the shows haven't done all that great lately.

I feel like the Ahsoka show is a bad Rebels sequel i didnt feel like i was watching Sabine and Ezra from Rebels in Ahsoka i would have liked for this story to have been told in animation better also i feel like Ahsoka being alive in the New Republic era is already exaggerated for me

I thought it needed more punctuation.
