I can't wait for this game. It'll finally be something to bring me back to PS2-land from GC-land. It gets released August 8th.

"'Okay, I will. I love you too, dad.'

    Heather grins.
Just an ordinary telephone conversation with her father.
It was quiet and peaceful, just like any other day.
She never imagined that her world would be turned upside down so suddenly...

All a sudden, without any omen, not knowing the reason, it comes.
    That ordinary happines gets lost.
The world changes drastically as if it is eroded by a nightmare,
and Heather gets trapped into it.
The happy crowd noise turns into dismal silence.
The only thing she can hear is the footsteps of strange creatures.
What happened? ... No one is there to answer the question.
Trapped in that lonely and insane world, the only thing Heather can do is to escape from it.
She doesn't even know where to go...
To survive, she uses her gun to kill grotesque monsters that attack.

'They've come to witness the Beginning.
The rebirth of Paradise, despoiled by mankind.'
A strange lady says that to Heather during this confusion.Only one person...
Beginning? Paradise? While not being able to question this meaning, the lady walks away...
As if the words were some trigger, the world further sinks deeper into nightmare."

Count me in. This is my most anticipated game this year. These games are oozing with atmosphere, story, deep characters, art... these things are simply perfect in these games. The music is also a high point, being both subtle and deep at the same time. Silent Hill 3 will be incredible. As much as these games are acclaimed, I still feel that they are vastly underrated. I want this game bad.

Ah, yes, the music. I've only played Silent Hill 2 briefly, but what caught my attention the most was definitely the music. Very sweet.

I've been thinking of picking up and playing Silent Hill 2 ( PC version ), but I have one question. Do I have to play Silent hill first, to actually get any of the story, or am I fine just starting with #2?

Silent Hill 1 and 2 have completely different stories, so it won't make a difference.

It's just..the same town, a different part of it. The stories don't relate at all. ALTHOUGH, if you play the first before you finish the second you will find out a bit more about the town.

As for SH 3..you really should play the first Silent Hill before you play the 3rd because I hear that they are linked together..but Silent Hill 1 and 2 are not.

...in addition to what YodaBoomstick said about SH1 and SH2 not being linked... no, they aren't exactly linked story wise, but since they are in the same series, it might be a good idea to complete it for the small SH2 references that ARE in SH3. Not to mention it's always good to know more about what has happened in other installments. But in the end, no, you don't have to... but SH2 rocks anyway, so get to it.

Hey, speaking of the music...they have three songs that you can listen to from SH3 that's on the second link I put in that opening post...my favorite is the last one. For the sound of the SH series in general, the sound of the radio adds a lot to it for me also.

I heard that SH and SH3 are linked as well. I wonder if Heather is looking for someone too...and if so, what the line'll be (ya know..."Have you seen a little girl?" and "Mary?")

I've been waiting for this ever since I heard about it last fall. And I originally heard it'd be out this Spring, but just found out the other day that it's not until August.

Initially, RE was the scariest...'til I saw SH...it's a whole 'nother kinda scary. Which monster do you all think is the scariest so far? I mean..they're all.....*shudders*, but I was pretty disturbed by Pyramid-Head. He totally reminded me of something that would be in Hellraiser. I'm such a wimp my hands would literally shake a little bit whenever I had to fight him.

Yeah... SH3's Cancer Man is pretty fugged up. Then again, SH2's last boss was pretty freaky itself.

    Thank You Konami.

Thank you so much for releasing this game in England before anywhere else.
    For once.

Oh yes, I'll tell you how great it is, but, I'd probably let slip some spoilers, and I'm sure you don't wanna hear 'em.

I've only briefly played the first ones, but I agree this one looks to be a great game. I hear that it reveals more of the story about the town than the second one. I have the poster from EGM in my room (great poster).

Here's a break down of the Video Demo that came with my new OPM.

*It starts with three symbols in a cirlce spining while going through grotty images (think Jason X credits)

*Then a monster going distroted Tyler Durden style.

    *Back to the spinning circle

    *Back to the Tyler monster

*It then shows the herione backing up in an elevator

*Then her in a monster butcher shop

    *Flashes of many images

*Then her in the passenger seat of a car. The driver yelling, as they drive through a heavy rain storm. The man sports a beard and has a chubby face like Eddie (same hair color too). It had California plates which should be interesting.

*The chick is then shown sporting a knife. It looks like she has no idea how it got in her hand.

*Next it flashes to a church as someone lady comes out from behind the pugh(sp) very Dalia Gillispe like.

*It looks like Cheryl all grown up! I probably wrong and haven't seen Alyessa in years, but it looks like her to me.

*Next it shows a monster chopping on a human corspe very Pyramid Head intro style.

*Herione picks up the phone reluctently

*back in the car she has a sketch book

    *Worm creature that looks familiar

*Herione jumps away from a train

*blood and a pendent in a sink

    *More Alyessa/Cheryl looking chick!

    *flashes threw various monsters

*ends with herione back to the camera in the middle of a demonic carousel!

The whole video has a song that sounded like it was done by a Sheryl Crow, Meredith Brooks type. Yuck! I hope they don't include anymore of the crap on the soundtrack that comes with the game.

Silent Hill 2 Sucks compared to Silent Hill IMO!

I cannot even begin to express the many reasons SH2 is one of the most brilliant games ever created, at least story wise. Not only is it a true assault on your nerves, it's very emotionally taxing and the story itself is just genius.

    OPM gave it 4 1/2 of 5, and EGM gave 8.5, 8.5, and a 9. I can't wait, and yet it's still a week until it ships.

    Why two copies?

And holy crap, this is one amazing game. I know survival horror games aren't always acknowledged over online RPG's and especially SW games here, but this game is so technically and emotionally amazing that it just can't be described. I'm about 4 hours in and it has to be one of the most atmospherical games ever. Period.

The second copy was a Birthday Gift for my brother.

This game gives me serious migraines like a FPS so it don't look like I get to enjoy it. They really need to fix the camera, and give it analog control. Screw Resident Evil, every Survival Horror game doesn't have to use the **** poor control scheme.

The controls have never bothered me in these games. I don't know. But yes, a lot of people hate them. I'm about 7 hours in now and I'm finding it to be truly amazing as far as fear and story go.

I just bought Silent Hill 3 today... only cost 39.99, and with a soundtrack... I don?t know about all you people, but that has me concerned.

Anyway, I?ve only played about 23 minutes so far, I have to say I liked Silent Hill 2 better... but the game has just begun. The camera seems to be more jerky than the second one, and personally, I think the graphics were better for the second one as well.

I don?t know, I?ll get back to you, but I thought the second one was a work of art in so many ways, I still have lots of hope for Silent Hill 3.

Silent Hill 3 is most definitely a work of art. Just wait until after you beat the game and read some plot guides and stuff... hoo boy, it's just as deep as the other two games. And some of the environments and plot twists later are just fantastic. It's a bit shorter than the first two, but not really by much, and this is a game you aren't really supposed to blast through. It has amazing atmosphere and visual integrity, so it's really about admiring the surroundings and sounds you hear. It's quite an experience. In any case, it's rare for a product so disturbing and cruel to come out, and so this game is a pure blessing to me.

and personally, I think the graphics were better for the second one as well.

Absolutely not. SH3 totally tops SH2 in the graphics department. The character detail is vastly improved, the in-game animations are improved (see James' running- it's quite laughable), there is just much more detail in the environments, and the resolution is definitely higher. It's not an amazingly spectacular leap in quality, but it is a better looking product than SH2.
