I wonder why there's a difference in the 'codpiece' between the two? Is the one on the left concealing a secret weapon? “The materials, the color, the lines, there was something about the aesthetic of it that just felt absolutely right,” said J.J. Abrams... Did he not specify the colour? Did the concept artists offer up a whole rainbow coloured array of Troopers and J.J. went with the one (Red) that looked right?
If they turn out to be clones, I wonder who they would end up being clones of since they'd most likely have to be irredeemable and killed in droves.
I think that’s one of the reasons I’d prefer they just be Kylo and the KoR’s handpicked members of the original FO Stormtrooper Corps; make them be guys who choose to be ruthless and hardcore fascists... and take those guys out of the rest of the Corps...
Agreed. Also, I still don’t think Kylo’s oft-referenced line to Hux about clones in TFA really meant much. I don’t think he really cares or thinks clones would be better, he just says it to mess with Hux.
What are we to make of the similarities between the Praetorian Guard's and these Sith Troopers? Obviously the red, the armour's sheen, also the grilled face panel on the Praetorian Guard and the grilled top to the helmet on the Sith Trooper? I guess we suspect there are from the same faction, same place perhaps, somewhere from The Beyond. Or are they? Are the Sith Troopers really on the same side as Kylo Ren (as per the MSW spoiler information) and therefore also originally on Snoke and his Praetorian guards' side, or are they associated with Palpatine because of the Sith name and have been waiting to be dispatched to reclaim the galaxy? Or, in cynical mode, are they just cool looking stormtroopers with little rationale? I suspect there is a significance to them other than just marketing and cool toys, and the name suggests a Palpatine connection or some other Sith association with perhaps the Sith's origin from The Beyond (my speculation).
I think one obvious contender is Anakin. That would definitely be a **** ** decision from JJ as he has alluded to. These troopers aren't trained in the Jedi Arts in anyway, obviously, but if they have Anakin's high midichlorian count as his clones, they would be instinctual and skilled in combat because they can naturally "see things before they happen" making them pretty formidable!
I would hazard a guess that there's something in the SW 'Bible' that states midichlorians can't be cloned.
So it that supposed body cams now on their right shoulders? So Matt the radar technician can have better eyes on the ground.
At one point the chrome Stormtrooper suit was created as an early concept for the "Jedi Killer" character, basically Kylo. They just liked the design and kept it for production to where eventually Phasma was created. Back in 2014 there was lots of leaked stuff on "Chrome Troopers", the production probably changed the chrome trooper program to these crimson colored troopers and dubbed them "Sith Troopers". http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/137669-Star-Wars-Episode-VII-Chrome-Troopers-Stormtroopers
That's pretty damn interesting. Probably more something from the pre-J.J. days there, but yeah, guess they may have retooled that concept into what these Sith troopers are gonna be. Certainly gels with the official descriptions we've got in recent days.
Nice digging. It's great to see how ideas evolve and get re-used in slightly different and massively different ways. I'll be watching this progress with great interest.
The body cams probably get "accidentally" turned off a lot. Stormtroopers have a "no lives matter" attitude.
Kylo probably wants to make sure they take lives, to ensure there wont be any FN-2187's in his new crack outfit. The less fits he throws the better it is for everyone.
I suspect the grooves are supposed to simulate exposed muscle tissue like in a flayed body effect, bloody skeletal bodies. We see the grooves on the black skeleton deathshead troops called Death Trooper armor as well, along with the raised knee armor attached to the thigh plate rather than the standard stormtrooper shin guard plates. The Praetorian saw lines are different, they are actually vents to breath and see through. One of the ideas was for it was the1970's muscle car vents. The concept for the Praetorians had were more red Stormtrooper looking soldiers like these Sith Troopers for TROS:
No, it was after JJ came aboard. It was simply a rejected concept for Kylo that caught Kennedy's eye and she asked them to find a place for it in the film. That's when Phasma was written into the story.
Do Phasma and Kylo share a scene together in TFA or TLJ? I can't remember them exchanging words with one another. I'd love there to be a lead Sith Trooper commander who has a distinct personality and reports directly to Kylo or something. Kind of a Phasma 2.0 but utilized better!
