Not a flaw at all, IMO. Quite the opposite. We got a chase scene in the pirate port last episode, and seeing another one just wouldn’t add anything. We know they’ll get away, and it’d just me more of the same people running through the crowded markets and such. Redundant action with little story or character benefit. A lesser show would’ve included more drawn out hijinks with adults falling over themselves as they chase the kids, and later, Joe. This show wisely doesn’t bother with that empty stuff, and brings us to more interesting places.

Meh, I have to disagree, the episode went way too far in not showing things this time around. It's one thing to not repeat yourself, but to have not one, not two, but three instances where you gloss over what happened is very glaring, especially when the entire port was on the hunt.

It's so glaring, I'd might even consider the possibility that it may have been a plan to let them escape. Either just by the pirates, or, to push it further, a plan that actively involves Jod after he had been captured again. He would be let go, and would then try to find the planet, leading the pirates to it as a means to save his own skin. Then you could have the usual scenes of the kids realising his betrayal, followed by him turning again and helping them as he realises he has grown fond of them.
That theory wouldn't quite fit to Brutus' comment, or the gun firing at the ship, but it would fit to Fern thinking their escape was too easy, and to not showing what happened in between, so that you can either have a flashback of it, or mention it in dialogue, later on. It's a bit outlandish, but then again, so is going out of your way not to show things. It would certainly be a good reason why you didn't show so much of it.

Meh. Fern's comment that it was too easy obviously means there's a reason why it wasn't hard for them to leave, and why it wasn't shown, and so I don't see any grounds for criticizing that personally. I also really didn't need to see Jod get chased through the port. The more novel action was Jod trying to escape the port while the ship was attached to the fuel line. So I'm glad they cut to that.

Maybe my favorite bit was once they had escaped, and they all pause to hear what Jod has to say, and he just says "At Attin, eh?" and then spends a minute eating his bowl of green stuff, and then says there's more in the pot and the kids jump to get their portions. No speech. Nothing. There's just great comic timing in the show, and authentic dialogue and behavior. Far less of people spouting exposition at each other than normal, and just overall a more naturalistic vibe. I really do, without sarcasm, compare this to Andor in that and other respects. They're the two shows with the most organic storytelling and dialogue, and the most seamless worldbuiding. I just believe what I'm seeing in a way I haven't always with some of the other shows.

    "there's more in the pot"

    "I saw it first!"

"get your trunk out of there"

As for Fern's comment that was too easy I figure it was a meta way of speaking for the audiance, as well to get the audience thinking, a kind of double bluff.

Yeah. I'd be totally fine with the explanation simply being that nobody in the pirate port was really paying attention, as is normal, and they got out easily. Great! A nice break from the obligatory "there they are, stop those kids!" followed by yet another chase scene.

That's the other thing that works about the show. It's clearly following an Amblin formula, as has been noted a million times, but it also eschews formula in ways like this one. No chase scene. And then no speech from Jod. They just eat. There's both a familiarity and an unpredictability to it that's delsightful.

Also, I liked when Neel said the ship smells funny.

Good point on the novelty. I just figured there would be some snag in Jod going back, and that the interaction with Benjar was it -- more important for Jod and his motives than a whole ensuing chase.

Also, I appreciate this take because I wasn't sure what to make of that moment.

    100%.

Just because people are used to certain things happening, doesn't mean they always should.

I was very please when we didn't get the expected drawn out chase scene. Pacing matters. Get to the good stuff.

Great action, all tongue in cheek as well. You can really see the mind of Christopher Ford at work here. Granted a barren moon with an atmosphere makes no sense, but I'll ignore that. This episode had somewhat of a Terry Gilliam feel to it, which is fine by me. Especially that Kh'ymm character, who was brilliant. Was it too short? Of course, that's just LucasFilm these days. Still the story MOVED along which is the most important thing anyway. Jude Law continues to master this one.

Mars is barren and has an atmosphere. Though given how cratered this moon is, I’ll assume it has an artificial atmosphere. So it can be made to make sense, as is the case with most things in fantasy and sci-fi.

ETA: Forgot to mention earlier the beginning of the episode, with the long shots of the droid walking to the kids’ parents house. It’s that sort of artful framing and visual humor that really elevates this show in a subtle way. The show is greater than the sum of its parts. But those parts are great too.

I watch too many cooking shows. Standard contest is to create a single bite that represents who you are as a chef. This episode is like a bite of everything that is SW and why people love it. Adventure and mystery with added touches of nostalgia and whimsy.

On the surface, it looked like the pirates are just completely inept and the kids/Jod's escape was stupid easy. Have to figure that the pirates are at least tracking them in the hopes that they'll lead them to At-Attn.

    Here’s a wild idea.

Wolfman pirate dude said he wanted to send out bounty hunters…what if one of them ends up being a Mandalorian we know and love.

Fun Fact: Benjar Pranic is named after Benjamin Ahr Harrison and Adam Prinica, the co-hosts of the Star Trek fan podcast The Greatest Generation.

His line "you're the best skipper I ever had" is a reference to a bit from the podcast where it was decided fans of the show are supposed to ask other suspected fans "Are you a friend of DeSoto?" to which they reply "Best boss I ever had." Because that's less embarrassing than asking "hey, do you like that nerdy Star Trek podcast with no research and lots of fart jokes?"

I think that Din is now working on “selected jobs” for the new republic right? Because of his “apprentice” like he said he wants more carefully chosen missions from Teeva right? So searching for a group of kids flying around with a strange pirate to a lost planet could be a great mission for him

That could be OK as a small part, but I really want more time to focus on these new characters. Mando is a great character and I'll happily watch more of him, but he's already got a lot of material. We don't have nearly enough time available to take away any from the pirates and the kids.

I'm hoping for John C. Reilly as Dengar. Or maybe, everyone thinks he's Dengar, but he has to correct them, saying he's Bengar, Dengar's brother. He might be on a bounty hunting expedition with his father, Lengar, played by Jonathan Banks.

Okay, a breathable atmosphere! Yes, I suppose it could be artificial, which again would go against common sense. Why would you artificially make a moon breathable, when apparently nobody lives there?
