I never thought that Jod was Sith. He comes across as inquisitor lite.

I also don’t think he is Sith but I’ve seen reactors saying omg it would be a shock… I think he was taken from home by the Jedi, trained partially and struggled with attachment then order 66 happened and he was brutally hurt from several betrayals maybe also his master and went down a rabbit hole and some questionable choices in life.
I also think it may be a practical matter as he had to take control of Smee because otherwise he could not enforce things to the kids in such a crisis situation and they are an immense unpredictable wildcard… he knows they might all be killed and doesn’t have the time to discuss raiding the buffet or who groups with who, he wanted them “prisoner” so he could get them out of there quick and smooth maybe? Without any further risk? I hope so
I have grown to like him and would not like it if he turns out to be truly bad

No it wouldn't. Luke showing up at any capacity in any SW story always improves that story.

In line with the others, I’m having a hell of time watching these. This was fun. Felt like a full on mashup of Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean and Goonies. I liked Lanupa, reminded me of Vandor a bit. The scene of Jod comforting Wim is probably one of the stronger ones of the series so far.

This might have been the least interesting episode thus far in terms of narrative, yet the final scene was the most dramatic moment of the whole series to date.

I liked the concept of Lanupa as kind of a resort planet for the affluent in the galaxy, but the execution felt a bit too real world and not exotic enough. The lighting especially just felt so overly artificial that the actors frequently felt separate from the surroundings, especially in the exteriors. And I might be wrong, but the aerial shots of the mountains really looked like the same plate photography from the SOLO shoot for Vandor. It certainly looked good, but surely they could have done more to differentiate that environment. That said, while I'm usually not one to get a Pavlovian reaction from something familiar in Star Wars (looking at you, recycled Qui-Gon quote!), I enjoyed seeing the Hutt and his woeful assistant.

The pirates haven't been anything special in this series, and this episode did little to change that, but thankfully Jod's big turn at the end promises to give this series a legitimate threat that it hasn't had yet. I kind of figured he might betray the kids at some point in this series, but credit to the writing for not telegraphing that too much, especially given how much the kids warmed up to him in the previous episode. I expect Jod will come back as an ally at some point, but for the moment, I think his turn was played quite convincingly. And Wim's thwarted moment with the lightsaber was a funny little reversal leading up to the bigger payoff with Jod at the end.

This series has certainly been consistently enjoyable to this point, but we've thankfully, finally arrived at a juncture where the stakes feel genuinely raised.

    7/10

Another key point in the episode: the face of the captain (Tak Rennod ) was never shown. There were convenient interference in the projection. That was so obviously intentional.

Absolutely loved this episode, lots of humor, lots of classic adventure-movie tricks, and a new sinister side to Jod who suddenly seems a lot more shady.

It felt like a shocking character turn for him, although not out of nowhere. The kids do get the same advice from everyone - don’t trust this guy. I had been pretty much certain that he is a former padawan, but now I’m not so sure. I suppose there could be other ways for him to levitate small objects and I don’t think we’ve seen him use any other Jedi powers? His reference to Qui-gon was very intriguing though, and Jude has really sold those one-on-one moments with the kids where he drops a little Jedi wisdom. But maybe that’s all a charade as well? Guess we’ll find out.

Loved that Wym finally got his hands on a real lightsaber with hilarious results. Now that Fern has lost the captaincy we may get some drama between her and Wym. That octopus guy was neat, the right amount of weird for Star Wars. Pirate treasure horde protected by traps - classic fun. Most of all it’s great to see Jude Law turning on all his impatient charms. I like where this thing’s going.

Ha! I spit out my drink at the panettone mention. This is my reality today as well.

Another super-fun episode. It’s just enjoyable. And that’s that.

So it turns out At Attin was apparently one of the Old Republic Mints. I suppose their locations were classified to prevent pirates from stealing large hauls of money exactly as Tak Rennod tried to do (or what Cassian Andor and his crew pulled off on Aldhani, come to think of it).

But the Old Republic is gone. So is the Empire. And most of At Attin doesn't know about it, despite the mint presumably being still in operation. But then for whom has At Attin been minting money all this time? Is it just sitting around piling up, or is the Supervisor letting somebody else take the credits that used to flow to the Old Republic?

Really liked this one. I don't think Jod is full-on bad. I think he's just trying to protect the little ones. Wonder who that pirate was in the hologram? They seemed to purposely obscure his face. Was that some sort of funky head gear he was wearing? Or am I just slow and its Jod?

Theory: Wim's mom was the concubine.

WIm says he's never going to see his dad and mom again. That whole "you'll see your dad again, but not your mom' line might be a clue. SM33 also says that the Captain's concubine betrayed him.

What if its not Tak Rennon that eventually crashes on At Attin, but Winn's mom. She betrays Tak, becomes the Captain, crashes on At Attin and meets Wim's dad. Perhaps she's now dead but this way the whole thing then relates back to Wim and his own story.

There are so many fun, exciting ways for this show to go. I need to rewatch my go to pirate entertainment. Should have pulled out my Pirate Santa figure, parrot and all.

Will Jod rescue the kids for the trap door trap? Will the parents get a message out only to bring more pirates? Wim's dad knows something, no big, but something.

Panettone and a bunch of neurotypical people I have nothing in common with the exception they somehow produced a Han Solo down a whole line of grass munching eopies … sorry I am not being kind and it is Christmas…nothing against eopies they just don’t fit my vibe… to be clear the Han Solo is my husband
Which makes me Leia I guess? Ehehe
By the way panettone is an important matter, here we don’t buy industrial and there is a whole bunch of artisanal stuff to sample through the holidays… the one I prefer is done with an humongous quantity of alpine butter and is divine… sorry off topic!
I should go to bed now but I am still thinking about Jod!
I so much hope it will turn out he was seizing control only to keep them safe!

A lot packed into this one indeed, and another dark turn that didn't feel like just a retread of last episode (Fern's really having a rough time with these). I love the shot of Jod from behind in the pivotal moment. There's a good amount of foreshadowing, too, e.g. in his fascination with Tak Rennod. And while I think he doesn't want to harm the kids, I don't buy the idea that he's just protecting them; frankly I think that would be less interesting and could even undermine the turn. The kids have been in danger before, and Jod's been overruled by Fern, and yet he doesn't make his move until he has the key information.

I also wouldn't want Luke to show up. I think he would just upstage everyone and could defeat Jod easily if need be. Mando took two seasons for that appearance. If Wim were to meet someone who's currently a Jedi, I'd prefer it be someone not as well known (e.g. Ezra if t he's back from Peridea).

I hope that lightsaber is not destroyed anytime soon.

The hilt looks like it’s from the High Republic era, better looking than the ones in The Acolyte. It’s possible the saber even predates that show, from an earlier period of the HR.
