That does seem like a safe bet.

    Oh, I would love that.

Probably a bit beyond the show's scope and focus to show off the Pirate Nation as a whole, but even just a small group of them as antagonists could reveal a lot.

Interesting. I had seen the leaked part, but I hadn't heard from other attendees that there was more, much less what that more is. Really surprised there hasn't been more discussion of that trailer since a bunch of people saw it

This just seems such a weird concept for a show. It doesn't strike me as something anyone was yearning for?

Nope, surely not a single soul wanted anything like this. You’re so tuned in Xander

We only watch shows we yearn for, of course. Many is the day I've gazed longingly out of the window waiting for someone to make Squid Game.

    ?

Did you miss the words "It doesn't strike me" i.e. my perception on your way to being snarky? This thread isn't exactly abuzz with activity/speculation, it has 4 pages in the last 2-3 years.

The Acolyte leveraged off the hype from the book initiative, and every other show has leveraged off pre-existing characters other than The Mandalorian. What exactly is this show leveraging off?

It comes out later this year and we're only now getting a first glimpse of it and everything from media speculation is that it's testing poorly. For an 'unknown' show like this, everything needs to line up for it to actually be a hit and it just doesn't seem to be.

They're trying for something that would appeal for the kid/young adult group, which is understandable given that a lot of the recent shows have catered more toward adults. Even the Mandalorian show was for an "older" crowd, with Grogu being more for "kids" (albeit this is really hard to stick ages with SW because it generally caters a little to everyone).

Skeleton Crew is probably like an inverse Mandalorian where Jude Law = Grogu. He's the odd one out catering to adults, while the kids run the show.

I had almost no interest in Andor and was wondering who that show was made for. As it turns out, it was made for me.

Then again when LFL does have projects that seemingly cater towards my interests the results are often… not stellar. So maybe Skeleton Crew will be a sleeper hit. I get the sense from what I’ve read and heard that the internal environment at LFL does not strongly reflect the fandom; maybe it’s testing poorly but will land well with us?

Point is, who cares if people were yearning for it or not. It's a different concept for a Star Wars show and right now we really have no idea how good it will or won't be, so don't knock it 'til you try it. A laundromat owner fighting her evil alternate universe daughter in a tax office sounds like a weird concept for a movie, and look how that turned out. And as it were, the same guys who came up with that seemingly bonkers plot worked on this show.

Who cares? I could have sworn this was a discussion board where we can discuss shows. If you don't care you don't have to respond to it.

But again, perhaps who cares is a good question, as not many seem to care about this show. Let's see how it pans out but I don't think it's unreasonable to express skepticism.

And maybe that's the case, and we'll know when it comes out, but until then we can only discuss/speculate on what's in front of us. All I suggested was that there's minimal interest in the show (evidenced by this thread and the wider SW community on SM) and reports are it's testing poorly. I didn't pass judgement on the quality of the show. It could be the best thing produced by Disney, or it could be a bland/boring bit of filler. We have no idea. If we shut every thread until we could factually and accurately react to media then it'd be a pretty boring state of affairs.

it's pretty simple, people have different tastes and interests

just because you're not interested doesn't mean someone else isn't interested

Heh I've thought exactly this a lot over the last few years. Especially with critic reviews. Seems more often than not the higher a critic score a show or film has the worse it is.

Whatever the people in LFL and Hollywood in general like, or think people like, is not what I like.

It is not surprising that the adult fandom might not overly embrace a show that appears, at least from what little we currently know, to more directly target younger fans of the franchise than the live-action shows usually do. It is also not surprising that there is currently a low level of interest in the show - Acolyte literally just ended two weeks ago and the publicity machine for this show has only just kicked into gear. It'll be that way until the first trailer drops, I would think.

Okay Randy Marsh, but you're not discussing anything. You're coming in here expressing bewilderment that people could be interested in this, just pouring out negative vibes, when a simple "huh, this doesn't do it for me" could have sufficed. As it is you're coming off rather trollish.

Pouring out negative vibes lol. I asked a question to encourage discussion. I was happy for someone to come in and explain to me what this show was going to offer or what there was to be excited about, rather than your snarky response that offered nothing.

Trollish? What a bizarre overread of my initial comment. You're the one with the dismissive attitude stifling discussion. My comment was about as mildly negative as they come and in no way was a troll.

It strikes me that SW fans these days are so hyper-sensitised to review bombers and hate watchers that anyone offering a genuine counter-view is jumped upon as being 'one of them' rather than what my post was genuinely intended as - a "I don't get what the appeal of this show is, does anyone?"

    Perhaps take the blinkers off.

For a show coming out in four months, this seems a little strange.

You sure about that? 'Cause that comes off as dismissive. You're not offering a counter view, you're tacitly insulting anyone who is interested in this show.

    Also don't double post.

Tacitly? So what you're really saying is "I got a vibe from your post that meant it was OK for me to be rude and dismissive of you". Absolute cop out. From the first in this discussion you've approached me with a rude and abrupt attitude far out of line with the actual content of my message.

If you want to moderate my posts start in your own backyard and dial back on the agro. Next time you want to read something into my post stop and read what's actually written and respond to that first.

If I say specifically "it doesn't strike me" I am very clearly opening the door for someone else to say "OK but for me it looks cool because..". I even followed up saying we have no idea on the actual quality of the show and can only go off what's been shown (lol) so far and the hype (or lack thereof). Others have provided their perspective on what interests them about the show, rather than treating the question in the manner you have.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’ve long wanted a Star Wars series that deals with exploring the Galaxy (and Beyond! We can go extragalactic now!) for a while now.

I remember when Visions Vol 1 dropped and Kinema Citrus did the Village Bride, with Kevin Penkin scoring, remarking in these very forums that I would like a whole series in the fashion of their anime Made in Abyss (though less...extreme). Low and behold, here we are. I was definitely yearning for this, and the universe answered.

I'll certainly be interested if it's more episode of the week or interconnected plot, because it seems to lend itself more to episode of the week self-contained stories.

Speculation may or may not have been leaning in that direction, but Leland Chee's post today on Instagram would appear to confirm that the alien character "Neel" is not an Ortolan. (Neel is also not Andraven, a species from the Young Jedi Adventures show whom he strongly resembles, but a previously unknown species.) Spoilered for size:

Ortolan limb controversy is so much more fun than Ki-Adi Mundi birthday controversy.

Sometimes - I had a real bizarre interaction on here, many years ago now, with a dude who was extremely insistent that Max Rebo's legs were always intended to be his arms and a virtual mountain of evidence to the contrary - production sketches, maquettes, an article by Pablo, etc. - just didn't count, or something. It was weird, and I've been wary of bringing up the subject ever since (not that opportunities to discuss Ortolan limbs are plentiful, but the topic has come up more than once).
