Cool, did they release it already in Canada? Or did some places just put it up on the shelves early?

I think i just lucked out with my local Zellers putting it out early..

I had been under the impression it wasn't comin' out until...well, today (july 27)

And Dori Doreau had more going for her then just looks.. She was the thinking-man's babe :p

Yeah, I just watched the pilot, Under the Gun. Hilarious. So cool to see again.

Francene: "Alright, stud. It's just you and me. Now drop the gun this instant, I know you'd never shoot at a woman!"

    BANG!!!(Sledge shoots)

Sledge: "Sorry, Francene......call me a feminist."

    [face_laugh] Great stuff.

Does anyone remember the episode where Sledge is driving past a building with a sniper on the roof, so he pulls over and takes a rocket-launcher out of his boot and blows the whole building up?!? That was my favourite memory of the series!!

    That was the pilot episode!

I was worried about my purchase of this DVD set. I mean, I remember loving this show when I was 12, but I haven't seen it since it went off the air. Just because I liked something as a kid doesn't mean I'd like it now as an adult. All of my fears flittered away after watching the first episode.

Bottom line: THIS SHOW ROCKS! :)

Okay, I just finished watching the entire DVD set today. Any reservations I had about purchasing this set vanished. It's still hilarious. Not every episode was a gem, but most were laugh out loud funny. I wish this show lasted more than two seasons. :(

I had forgotten that a laugh track was used for the show, by ABC's insistence. Very glad Anchor Bay removed it. That intro that creator Alan Spencer does, concerning it, is very funny.

Also cool to see a lot of familiar faces throughout the episodes as guest stars. The late Jonathan Brandis playe Sledge as a kid in, They Shoot Hammers, Don't They?

Thug: Drop your gun and kick it over here.
    [Sledge puts the gun down.]
Thug: I said kick it over here.
Sledge Hammer: Forget it, Slimeball. I never kick a friend when he's down.

..the Sledge line of the day:

Vigilante: "What's your opinion of the death penalty?"

Sledge: "It's too lenient. There's always the possiblity of REINCARNATION...."

....well, today i watched the final episode of Season 1..

Some shows that you remember fondly from your youth don't exactly age well..("Robotech" comes to mind, here)

Happily, this isn't the case with Sledge...The majority of the humour here works just as well today as it did back in 1986..

Not many things make me literally laugh out loud.. Sledge did this to me MANY times..

Think i have to say that my favourite episode of Season I was "Desperately Seeking Dori", where Doreau gets clocked in the noggin', and when she comes too she starts acting like Hammer..

I don't think you'd see a show today with such an obviously sexist pig as a main character.. Sure he was sexist for comedic purposes, but i don't think that today's PC world would stand for it, ya know?

Which is too bad...Cause those PC restrictions are what really prevent people from producing any truly great comedies, nowadays..

Doreau: "Is Sledge your real name?"

    Sledge: "Yep."

Doreau: "What was your father's name, Jack?"

    Sledge: "How'd you guess?"

Can someone tell me if this scene I remember is from the first season and which episode.

Sledge go to interview an old man who is either in the hospital or a nursing home. Sledge walks on a ramp which goes down a hill and the old man in a wheel chair is bouncing down the steps! [face_laugh]

That's my most vivid memory of Sledge Hammer.

I was just at the Sledgehammer official website and signed a petition to get season 2 on DVD.
I also found out Anne-Marie Martin(Doreau) auditioned for the role of Princess Leia.

Well, apparently the above-mentioned petition worked, because Season 2 of Sledge Hammer! went on sale today.

Yes, now the final 19 episodes of the best Spoof-Cop show this side of Police Squad is available to own on DVD!

I'm still amazed by how many of these eps i actually remember back when the show originally aired in 1986.

I'm really lookin' forward to the one where Hammer is shot, and thus transformed into a Robocop-like Cyborg named "Hammer-roid"....

EDIT: ha, you beat me to the first post, crest :p Glad to know i'm not the only one who spotted S2!

It did come out today, didn't it? I gotta pick that up.

You guys really need to see David Rasche in An Innocent Man, with Tom Selleck. Good movie, with great performances. Rasche is an extremely corrupt cop who frames Tom Selleck's character. It's a trip to see him here if you mostly know him as Sledge. He's a really bad guy in it, someone you really want to see get his in the end. He does an excellent job. Best Buy's got in on DVD in their special value section. Anyway, highly recommended absorbing drama.

    Yeah, Rasche is definitely underrated.

The other day i saw him on an episode of "She Spies" (and nearly cried). He controlled every scene he was in, up until his inevitable death halfway thru. Still as funny as ever.

I've made it up to Episode 4 of Season 2 ( "Wild About Hammer", where a loony female officer develops a thing for Sledge but, when rejected by him, gets him thrown out of the force for sexual harrassment).

It's funny to see just how much the writers ragged on other shows that were airing at the time. In season 1, you had them constantly making fun of "Mr. Belvedere". In season 2, they've ripped on "Alf", "Moonlighting" (regularly) and they REALLY on (what was at the time the fledgling) FOX network.

The Sledge quote of the day:

Doreau- "Sledge, do you really think that blowing someone away based on a hunch is good poilce work?"

Sledge- "No, i call that ' the Process of Elimination' ."
