Switch 2 upgrades will be $9.99 for Zelda and likely all others.

Loads of pre-orders going up on Argos, Game etc... at the moment and not selling out at the pace the PS5 did. I have a feeling that we'll not see a similar shortage this time round.

Still seeing stupid prices occasionally on ebay though

Probably quite a few macroeconomic factors playing into both of those dynamics, lol.

Must be nice to live in a 1st world country that can pre-order the Switch 2.

I think many people will wait until later down the line to see if there is a price drop before buying a Switch 2, there is far too much prohibitive cost at launch.

You’re probably right, my sister said she is waiting to see it get over any initial bugs before she buys.

    I'm going to wait myself.

Hell I only want the thing for hopeful Xenoblade games. I'm in no rush I'm now finding after hearing $449.

Expecting a price drop seems very bold. Very, very bold. And I say this as someone who intends to give it a few months to a year.

Retailers will undoubtedly do Black Friday deals of some kind, especially if the initial launch isn't as successful as expected because of boycotts due to the price.
The Switch 1 didn't stay the same price forever, games did get discounted but not by a lot.

I do wish they'd do a version for people that are only going to play it docked anyway. I know it won't happen, but I am aware how much I'm paying for a screen that I'm not going to use.

I presumed all 1st world countries could pre-order.

So for what it's worth current third party estimates, which assume Nintendo will hike the price in the US owing to tariffs and will reduce sales accordingly, are still thinking this might be the fastest selling console of all time in its first year. If they're right, nothing is getting discounted for a while.

I thought so too, but it appears they locked out Canada.

Alas, here in the US, we are in a pre-orderless age of our own making.

I'd like to amend my previous statement, I didn't realize that Canada's pre-orders were getting delayed.

I wouldn't expect a boycott due to the list price. Any delayed purchases will be because of the tariff pirce increases on the market as a whole. This year's supply will sell out one way or the there (even if sales in the US are reduced because of the tariffs, what is here will still sell out and they'll divert more units to other countries until things settle here). There's also no way they're doing a price drop any time soon if they're delaying pre-orders because of price increases.

Switch 1 is the same price today that it was at launch- $299. The only "price drop" was releasing the Lite as a lower-end model. But I suppose these tariffs will ensure that you are right- it won't be the same price forever. It'll just be going up instead of down ;).

As soon as they announce Xenoblade Chronicles Switch 2 editions, that's when they'll definitely get me.

With the Switch 1, I didn't need it right away. I had BOTW for the Wii U so I was content. I would eventually get it for Christmas 2019 with Mario Odyssey, Luigi Mansion 3, and a pro controller.

Right now, I'm hyped for the Switch 2 but this tariff stuff sucks.

Yeah, I didn't get the NS1 at launch either. Just couldn't afford it at the time. Eventually got one as a gift. So I was finally able to play the XC2 SE I had purchased in advance ;). Probably a big reason, besides Smash and MK8 taking up so much of play time, why I have such a backlog of stuff to still go through.

Though I really do hope that the situation stabilizes and I can get an NS2 maybe by the end of the summer. Because the upgrade editions are so perfectly timed for me to finally tackle some of that backlog- ie: Odyssey, BOTW, Tears, LM3, Kirby, etc that I might as well wait a little bit longer on them.

I'm going to wait for the tarrifs to end, before trying to get one. Once that happens, whatever high price it will be, will go back to $450. That I believe. But I will get the SD card and the pro controller first. As to games, I will probably get a few first party games, but will stick with third party sales. FFVII and SFVI.

Well, now tariffs are supposedly paused for 90 days / rolled back to 10% except for China... so that opens a window to get stock into the country from Vietnam. And might be within the buffer Nintendo had anticipated with the $450 pricepoint (as long as we don't believe Nintendo when they said that tariffs were not a consideration... because they're totally lying). So we might not have to deal with a price jump compared to the announced price.

But then what happens 1 month after launch and these tariffs potentially go back into effect (or something is negotiated above 10%?)?

Literally no one knows because this is such a weird and unprecedented situation we find ourselves in for… everything, not just game consoles, and it’s all driven by the fairly capricious whims of exactly one person. My guess would be that Nintendo tries to dial in a revised North American (and unfortunately for Canadians who did nothing wrong I think it’s going to be North American to try and prevent people from importing/exporting on their own) price that can handle a range of potential tariffs while still technically resulting in a profit.

Nintendo confirms that physical Switch 2 Edition games will be all-in-one NS2 game cards- no downloads or download codes needed.

Though that does prevent the games from being played on an NS1. But a good move for future buyers who don't already own the games.
