For those who have seen ROTS, which is probably all of us, must realize that he's horribly skinny. So do you think he started hitting the weights and bench-pressing and stuff? how else would he get that large? and its not as if he was fat in the OT. he was big, but not fat. Muscular.

    Sure, why not.
All the jedi are dead, his wife is gone, he has no friends, and his Master is busy organizing the Empire.

What else would he have to do? You can only stare at the Death Star frame for so long.

He's a whole lot taller too - I think I'd be annoyed if a bunch of robots came and made me taller. You'd have to buy new clothes. Come to think of it - did he wear that black leather for 20 years? Because that's just gross.

I believe he used the force to create a mini shield around the leather to prevent them from becoming dirty, thus allowing him to wear the same clothes, unwashed, for over 20 years.

In reference to his height did you NOT see ROTS? His robotic legs were at least 6 inches longer than his previous legs.

Ther's already a thread on the front page about this...

How does he eat is what I want to know? In ESB, after Lando "betrayed" Han, Vader says "We will be honored if you join us." And there was a bunch of food and stuff. Did he actually eat?

    Yes, he ate.
The left silver "tusk" on his helmet extends outward. It's like a straw that allows him to eat without removing his lifesaving armor.

Vader is going to pump YOU up.

Swhwarzenegger visited the Death Star and helped bulk up Vader during the years.

The real question is though, did Sidious give him steroids?

Hey, he's always saying, "You don't know the power of the Dark Side." Maybe the Dark Side makes you super ripped. 'Cuz hey, we never see Palpatine in anything but robes and stuff. And we know Darth Maul had to be chiseled like a Roman statue to fight off two powerful Jedi for so long.

Or maybe it's just a product of intense training. We saw how ripped Luke got when training on Dagobah.

I think he got a little plump, well, what was left of him anyway, I'm not sure if that's muscle. He put on a few pounds over the course of 20 years in the suit. I mean what do we see him doing, walking around, sitting in that chamber, he's clearly a little out of shape. He get's his first decent workout in years in ESB vs. luke. I ain't saying he got fat, but he gained some weight.

I wouldn't go to the point of saying he's fat, I'd just say it's all from the suit. As for his slowness, a cybernetic suit could do that to a person. It isn't his weight, methinks.

I agree, the suit is what is slowing him down, I just think he gained some weight, got bigger, not fat.

Mmm, no, I don't think so. Take it from me as a Vader-lover who's been staring at his body rather intently for years now. ;) Dave Prowse is ripped, and it shows when he's in that suit. You can see the quadriceps bulging on the front of his thighs, even above the part where we now know his cybernetic legs begin, so it must be his actual muscle. Vader's been bulking up, no question about it.

I was at a pulp culture convention a couple of years back and I met Dave Prowse. He's a big man. Not at all overweight, but really solid, much bigger than Hayden Christensen. Not wanting to gripe, cos it doesn't really bother me, but when I first saw suited Vader in ROTS, he was noticeably lean and short compared to the way I remembered him, which kind of made his helmet stick out more. For some reason I was instantly reminded of Dark Helmet from Spaceballs!

You know what Marra, prowse is a big guy, a weight lifter, so come to think of it, you're right. Now to make sense of this in relation to vader, I guess dead lifting rebel soldier's off their feet with one hand for 20 years would definetely improve one's physique. :)

Yeah, he was a machine! Darth Vader was a weightlifting champion and he once owned a gym in London.

Prowse is 6'7" tall, weighed over 250 lbs, and had a 52" chest when he wore The Suit. It was obvious to me Hayden lacks those dimensions.

I would think Vader might use whatever type of muscle enhancer is needed in order to make movement in The Suit a bit easier.

It never ceases to amaze me the sheer banality of some threads.....

Sheesh. To make the same appearance Lucas would have had to employ a 6' 7" bodybuilder in the part of Anakin, which quite frankly would have been ridiculous. Its fine when he is the big bad all in black villain, but not when he is the normal Anakin. So thats the NUMBER ONE reason why his appearance is different.

AND you could pick apart Vaders appearance to the Nth degree. YES he is taller (his cybernetic legs would account for this) but you could also say 'Vader, as a paraplegic, would have had to go through YEARS of operations, as his body grew, filled out, so would his implants and legs have to be altered, made to fit' etc etc.

When is the nitpicking going to stop and the enjoyment of films going to begin? I feel sorry for people who watch a film only to say 'You know, the crease on Hans trousers really bugged me in the Falcon.' Just sit back and enjoy the film for god sake!

    Get a grip.
