Lit So if the EU was still going right now where do you think they would be?

I would like to think the Prequels and the One Canon attempts do show that Legends could have been retconned to fit with the ST, and it wouldn't be overly difficult in the grand scheme of things.

I'm sure there would be a central thrust to tell stories in the TV and the EU would have to compensate, and eventually less and less plot-moving stories would have occurred in the books and comics, with the pointy point of continuity being purely TV.

The thing is you really can summarise the EU into three periods.

    1. Imperial Remnants, legitimate or otherwise, with the war considered to be over more than once.
    2. Yuuzhan Vong for four years IU.
    3. Sith return for four years IU.

It can be downplayed, and as much as DNT-LotF-FotJ played down the NJO, Legacy played down that.

I imagine our traditional EU stories would have been supported less and less and less, and retconned more and more and more, until well, we're where we are now.

    shrug

They took the power of retcon from us and used it against us? How could they? Nooooo

  3. If Lucas ST had happened and Lucas had never Sold Star Wars and the EU would not have been Cancelled how could you justify that Han and Leia have different Children? or that Darth Talon was active 100 Years before Legacy? if TCW hadnt been Cancelled and the Episodes of the Dark Disciple had happened how would you justify that Quinlan Vos is Spying on Dooku for a Second Time? what would have happen if in those Episodes Quinlan had said that he had never Spy or met Dooku before? what would have happened to Khaleen Hentz or Korto Vos? at least Disney recognized that the EU was a Parallel or a Alternate Universe

Inconsistencies like this were already plentiful long before Disney became involved, and everyone got by fine. Lucas' TCW cartoon steamrolled a lot of the previously established Clone Wars EU and gymnastics were needed to make it all fit. Pre-prequels the EU is full of errors about what the clone wars even were, and how long ago they happened, with some of the most popular EU books like the Thrawn trilogy and X-Wing books being the worst offenders in that regard. Didn't stop people liking them.

Hell, you even have TCW tv show outright retconning the actual movies so that Anakin and Dooku fight each other a dozen times during TCW when clearly the initial intention behind the ROTS line "my powers have doubled since we last met, Count" was referring to their fight on Geonosis during AOTC.

Explaining away Han & Leia having different kids would probably have been a straw to break the camel's back, for sure, but the rest of it is nothing.

  5. Dark Disciple Episodes would have contradicted all Quinlan Vos Multimedia Project Storyline as if it never happened as if it wasnt enough with Adi Gallia, Even Piell, Ventress Species or TCW Boba Fett Cad Bane Episodes with Young Boba Fett Novels

The main villain of the Hypothetical Lucas ST would've been some sort of Lovecraftian horror, right? I'm sure I'd have loved that but I imagine many others would think it was stupid.

It blew my mind when they went out of their way to contradict the EU by resurrecting Eeth Koth instead of just using Agen Kolar, who was literally created to be an identical-in-all-but-name replacement for Eeth Koth.

To be fair, the sources that killed off Koth also reported the deaths of characters like Saesee Tiin and Sora Bulq, which had already been overturned by that point.

  12. Crazy to think that in this Year KOTOR 1 and Jedi Academy Game will Turn 20 Years Old, KOTOR 2 in 2024 will be 20 Years Old, KOTOR Comics will Turn 20 Years Old in 2026, TFU 1 will be 20 Years Old in 2028, SWTOR Game will be 20 Years Old in 2031, Legacy of the Force and Legacy Comics also will be 20 Years Old in 2026 and for 2034 the Decanonization of the EU will be 20 Years Old

There were multiple Wyrrrloks, the Talon from LEGACY could be a descendent or just took the name to honor the "original" Talon.

Thinking about how well the High Republic stuff fits in with the legends continuity, and I can't help but wonder if we would have gotten a different version of that without the buyout. If nothing else, it feels like a relatively open spot for storytelling without having to go with a completely different context like most open spots in the more distant past.

....And while not exactly what this thread is about, I find myself wondering "what if disney did buy it, but after all the planned clone arcs had been finished?" Some of those arcs would have some interesting implications for canon, such as the Vong arc. Course, I can only imagine the continuty arguments that and Dark Disciple would have caused. Perhaps most interesting is that apparently the whole Mandalorian arc would have gone very differently, with Satine compromising with Death Watch and taking up the armor again.

Huh, that is a pretty simple and elegant solution.

When you said "creepy pruple thing" my first thought was "Thanos"? lol... only then did I remember the Uber-driver that looked like a giant grub.

What if his "face" is only a mask or helmet though?

Pity SE probably does not cover him as well... or will it? Hmm..

IF Disney does a racing game it will have you race Fathiers on Canto Bight, trashvessels on Crait and if you get lucky waterskimmers through the DS2 ruins!

But yeah I miss Podracer games!

For missing podracing games, I prescribe a combination of RedOut and RedOut II.

I wouldn't mind a Riot Racing game myself.

    Possibly MarioKart style.

  19. If the EU was an Alternate Universe to Lucas then why did he allow it the EU to become too big? to the point 90% of Star Wars content before 2014 is EU in Empire at War you can play as Mara Jade or Kyle Katarn in KOTOR Games there are references to Tales of the Jedi Comics even the Yuuzhan Vong Mara Jade got her own Game Mysteries of the Sith in TFU you can play as Darth Sion in TFU 1 Game for the Wii Version you can play as Mara Jade in the Multiplayer and in Masters of Teräs Käsi you can Play as Mara Jade too the EU was a big part of the Star Wars History the Old Star Wars Video Games invited you to discover the EU World the truth is Lucas let the EU continue because the EU gave him a lot of Money and the EU saved Star Wars in the 80s and 90s and thanks to that Lucas was inspired to make the Prequels Movies

Why did Lucas do what he did on the EU? Multiple answers permitted:

    - For the money
    - Did not give a crap
    - Changed his mind, multiple times
    - Some other bullcrap

  21. I think the EU was too Big to just be Considered an Alternative Universe i think Lucas never cared of what was Considered Canon in Star Wars even TCW contradicts the 6 Original Movies about how Yoda explains the Force in ESB and in ROTS they never mention that Anakin has a Padawan

"Not caring about what's canon in Star Wars" is actually one of the secret paths to true happiness. So good for him.

The most charitable version going is Lucas changed his mind. A lot.

Lucas couldn't be consistent with his own work, never mind anyone else's.
