After all he was responsible for the discovery and misread notion that Anakin's was the chosen one. If His "adoption" of Anakin wouldn't have occured Palpatine never would have wooed him and no Jedi's wouldve been killed. The Council would still be intact and the Emporer wouldn't have gained ultimate power...Does anyone agree?

Na, would have happened anyway. He just gave Sids the ultimate tool (Anakin)

No I don't agree. Qui-Gon was right all along. It wasn't a "misread notion", Anakin was always the chosen one and he fulfilled the prophecy at the end of ROTJ.

I agree at the end of ROTJ he brings balance by kiling palps( regardless of what the comics say of plap coming back) and himself essentially which ends the reign of the sith and leaves only LUke "a good jedi" left in the universe thus balancing the force.

No, it was a guy called Palpatine. He was behind it all.

If it were not for Qui Gon, Palpatine ri=ule would have lasted forever. Only Anakin could bring balance - which he did in ROTJ. Qui Gon was right.

He was right all along, but the way he went about taking Ani from tatooine was wrong and caused the fall of the empire. Had he not manipulated the chance cube, shmi would have been the one freed. Then he should have stayed on Tatooine watching over Ani and waiting for a real sign from the force - just like Obi did with Luke for 20 years. So yes - QJ f'ed it all up.

Qui-Gon was right. Palpatine was still a Sith no matter if Qui-Gon found Anakin or not, and he probably would've been able to infiltrate the Senate some other way. So it wasn't Qui-Gon's fault.

If not Anakin then it would have been another sith. Besides, is Anakin the one that brings up the identity of the sith lord to the jedi. They would have still been clueless.

If anything, I blame it on Mace Windu and his arrogance.

i think a large part for the fall of the republic was on the jedi. they became so assure of themselves that they did not stop to think, "maybe we are not so great, maybe we have faults also". "To sure of themselves" Yoda said. Some of them became so pompoous (spelling) that they could not see the sith in front of their faces. How sad! And how true in live aswell!

Palp could have mind tricked any Senator to make the emergency powers petition. Jar Jar only required mundane manipulation, though.

I've got to come down on the side of Qui-Gon's innocence in this matter! (not surprised...). Palpatine started the war and carried it to the point where he was empowered to take the reigns as Emperor without Anakin's help. I imagine Palpatine himself could have massacred the younglings in the Jedi Temple if he had wanted to do so. And his stormtroopers seemed to do a good enough job taking out many scattered Jedi as well. Qui-Gon simply provided the ultimate weapon of Palpatine/Sidious' downfall--Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. Luke couldn't have done it without his dear old Dad! :D (And no, I don't think he could have gathered dear old ghosts of Yoda, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon to do it without the help of Anakin, either...)

    Cheers!

Either way Sid was influencing EVERYONE around him. He would of minipulated someone else, or kept Dooku and tought him more.

    Good Stuff

It's ALL Qui-Gon's fault, he brought Jar Jar AND Anakin to the Republic, therefore destroying it.

If you think Anakin FINALLY killing Palpatine at the end of Jedi was a GOOD thing, what about his YEARS as a Sith Lord UNDER Palpatine, what about ALL the deaths? The rebel alliance aside, what about the planet ALDERAAN! The prophecy to destroy the Sith involved killing billions of people and destroying an entire civilization, including the entire Jedi population, this was ALL necessary in order to kill ONE Sith-Lord?

More than everything that has been mentioned, Qui-Gon's biggest error was telling Anakin he was the Chosen One.

Anakin should not have been given that information at such a young age in front of a defiant Jedi Council.

republic was lost anyway because sidious knew how to own the sith.

qui-gon found the chosen one who is the only one who can beat sidious.

    he rules.

technically, if you want to blame someone, blame the force.

it was the will of the Force that allowed the destruction of jedi, the rise of the sith and then ultimiately the destruction of the sith

If you place any blame on Jar Jar there must be some on Padme as well. Who was it that moved for a vote of no confidence in Vallorum? Paving the way for Palpatine to become Supreme Chancellor? :p

Qui-Gon knew of the corruption in the Republic. If it were up to him, the Jedi probably wouldn't have been pawns in Palpatine's Clone Wars. The Jedi needed an idealist like Qui-Gon to shake up the Jedi Order's role in the Republic.

TPM illustrated that with or without Anakin, the Republic was decaying and in decline. It had become bogged down in beuracracy (sp?), rigid, non-effective (it wouldn't even help Naboo out).

No, it's not all Qui-gon's fault. It was going to happen regardless of whether he took Anakin then or later. It was going to happen. But he is wrong about Anakin, for a time.

"I think it is obvious that [Qui-Gon] was wrong in Episode I and made a dangerous decision, but ultimately this decision may be correct. The ?phantom menace? refers to the force of the dark side of the universe. Anakin will be taken over by dark forces which in turn destroy the balance of the Galaxy, but the individual who kills the Emperor is Darth Vader?also Anakin. The tale meanders and both the prediction and Qui-Gon are correct?Anakin is the chosen one, and he did bring peace at last with his own sacrifice. Luke couldn't kill the Emperor himself, but he could make Anakin reflect on his life and kill the Emperor."

There are many people who could carry the blame. Overall it was Palpatine's fault as he was clever enough to manipulate people to contribute to the end of the Republic.

We could even blame Padmé for calling a vote of no confidence and kicking out Valorum.

It wasn't Qui-Gon Jinn's fault at all. Give him full credit for finding the one and freeing the one who would one day bring the Force back into balance.

the way i see it (and i may be wrong) is that if qui gon had not taken anakin in TPM, then wouldnt darth maul or palps have found him sooner and train him. I feel that palps must have known about "the chosen one" anyway wot with the midiclorian stuff.

This is so obvious that I can't believe it's being debated. Clearly the Rupublic falls because of Sidious, and the Sith are destroyed because of Qui-Gon's discovery of Ani.

Sometimes you need to make sacrifices to stop evil...
There will be NO more siths there are no more Jedis as Yoda says there are always 2 no more no less a master and a apprentince. The master and apprentince are bothe gone. If you think about it if Anakin had NOT turned bad there would of been more deaths. There would be a whole line of Siths killing off more then Darth Vader (Anakin) could EVER do. So he had to make a sacrifice of killing people to stop the rest of the Siths. So it was Qui-Gons fault along with Anakin Luke and Leia that there are and will NEVER be any more siths.
