...does Leia pilot the Falcon by herself or is it on some sort of autopilot? I'm sure she's a competent pilot by then, but wouldn't dare fly in an asterioid field.

She wasn't flying it when they were actually in the asteroid field, though.

I'm sure Leia is an able pilot. She flies the Falcon through TIE fighters at the end of ESB. She knew Han had more experience with the ship.

True, but I thought Chewie was at the controls during the escape from Cloud City ("easy, Chewie.")

I think Chewie was at the controls in TESB, but my tape is broken and I have vowed not to see that film till the DVD.

I'm sure she can do some piloting, I don't know I thought maybe autopilot, but that could be difficult in the asteroid field.

    It could've been the droids.

You never know. If anyone here has read SOTE, Luke trusts the droids flying the Falcon through the Coruscant traffic, so maybe he knew if they could fly there they'd be able to fly in almost any situation.

I realize Luke wasn't there at the moment but maybe Han or Leia told him what had happened.

That's a good point. I guess maybe both Threepio and Leia were at the controls while Han and Chewie were away.

Leia is piloting UNTIL they reach the asteroid field. Anybody can fly in a basic evasive pattern, and I am sure Leia is more able than most.

"That was no laser blast! Something hit us!"

    "Han! Get up here!"

Yeah, that scene has always bothered me. They just blast out of Hoth, SDs on their tale along with TIEs, and Han AND Chewie take off to fix....NOTHING.

So while they're "fixing" stuff, who is flying the Falcon? Cant be Leia- when would she ever learn to fly the falcon and be able to manuever it around SDs and Ties.

Auto Pilot? I dont think an auto pilot will be able to evade that well.

I dont know, must of been the will of the force, cause nothing else makes sense.

Did anyone read the novel? Maybe it was detailed in that...

Well there was a pretty long break between ANH and ESB... I am sure that while flying around the galaxy, Han gave Leia some lessons on flying the Falcon specifically, as I am SURE she already knew how to fly with so much combat/espionage training already.

I believe she was in the pilot's chair when Han and Chewie ran back to the cockpit.

Also, witness Leia's awesome piloting skills when steering a speeder bike through dense forest in ROTJ. She knows what she's doing.

Piloting a speeder through a forst and flying a Correlian freighter thru an asteroid field are two different things. I can see your point, but land-piloting is one skill, and piloting in a vacuum is entirely another.

    To me at least.

Ships in the SW universe do have autopilot, as we found out from little Annie.

Well flying through a battle on autopilot is designed for a starfighter like the Naboo N-1 as a standard function. But a freighter is just that, a freighter, it's not supposed to see alot of action, let alone autopilot through an asteroid field. I doubt it was in the system's matrices.

We all know that the Falcon had a lot of 'special modifications', maybe Han programmed an evasive pattern into the ship's autopilot.

    It's a bothersome scene.

I don't see any problem with thinking Leia piloted the ship. When you're in a group of beat-up rebels with very limited numbers, I'd imagine that everyone was trained to pilot in case it was needed.

Little Annie.... that's such a dumb name. When people say "Annie" I see a bothersome irritating red headed girl! Not the soon-to-be Darkest of Darkest Dark Lords of the Sith!

That's the point. Anakin is shown as such an innocent young boy because it further proves that wrong choices can lead to a darker future. Even the most innocent of beings can do the wrong thing and end up on the "dark side." It happens every single day in real life, and it happened in Star Wars.

Leia's flying it just like she did in ANH during the escape from the DS. Chewie is the CO-pilot, meaning he assists. If you watch, really look at it, you see both Han and Chewie's hands on controls in ESB. The Falcon requires both Pilot and Co-Pilot to fly it.

It's pretty simple gang. Leias in the pilot seat. She tells Han and Chewie to come to the cockpit. They do, she relinquishes the pilot seat to Han who takes over. 2+2=4 Does everything have to be spelled out for you people?

I always thought it was the autopilot. I thought I remember reading that somewhere, but I could be wrong. Cause wouldn't it have been common sense for Leia to turn away from the asteroid field if she was piloting? If it was indeed the autopilot, it would make more sense why they just flew straight into it.

Yeah, Leia flew the Falcon in both Ep's 4 and 5.

Chewie helped out in Ep4, and Leia's 'piloting' skills were made pretty clear near the end of Ep5 when they flew in to pick up Luke from Cloud City.

Remember, Lucas makes his movies fast paced. It would retract from the excitment, speed and overall feel of the movies if they had establishing scenes like Han telling Leia to fly the ship, or teaching her how to fly the ship.

    Remember, in the Star Wars universe, folks can fly ships as easily as we can drive cars, vans, and with a little common sense and care;

    Semi-Mack Trucks.
