If you sampled 100 boys and 100 girls and asked them if they like Star Wars and if they like Frozen, what would you expect? Boys and girls would like both, but the % of boys and girls liking SW compared to frozen you would expect that more boys like SW and more girls like Frozen. No issue with this. There would be nothing overtly sexist if that outcome occurred either. Key thing I am saying here is that while both like them, if you were a marketing exec and wanted to cash in on a 4 billion dollar investment, who would you target? which demographic? Not sure I understand. If you look at social media it seems pretty even between men and women (and the level of hate is extreme elsewhere - unlike here where the forum is modded really well). So why then would fan forums be places of discrimination? Why would fewer women come to a safe place like this? You re missing my point (which I haven't made well enough). SW is not for boys, it is not for girls, it is for everyone. My main issue is with the way Rey has so far been portrayed.Whilst I recognise that you think she has been shown to be tested, there are plenty who will disagree on that. If her character development continues to mirror Anakin and Luke, but at the same time be more turbo charged, it will be quite valid to question the reason for this? She effectively needed no help for the entire movie, every challenge presented to her, she succeeded where her compatriots failed. This could just be a coincidence, or poor story writing to introduce her (all my opinion ). it is why I feel we need to see true struggles and actual failure on her behalf. Which leads to what I said above and what I am questioning as to whether there genuinely is an agenda, or if there isn't. The aim of an existing franchise is not only to satisfy current fans, but attract new ones. If they deliberately alter the story to try to attract a particular demographic, whatever that may be, then I do have an issue as the artistry is comprised for an agenda. And the agenda=More Money. So the question I put back to you is, which demographic would you target to increase the number of fans? If say 70% of boys liked SW, but only 60% of girls did, which would you target? The bigger return? And how would you do that? Now to finish, I reiterate, it is not clear that this agenda does exist for Disney, it is only a hypothesis. It may be that it doesn't, but I think the proof will be in the pudding of how Rey is portrayed. I hope to see Rey struggle, so that any thought of "an agenda" can be dismissed. That is meant sincerely as I suspect I will enjoy the movie more as a result of it addressing my issues. If it doesn't, I hope the story is good enough to make me happy! I leave you with this though if you wonder whether Feminists or SJWs can influence Hollywood - https://www.theguardian.com/film/20...rds-showing-jennifer-lawrence-being-strangled Happy for you to have last say - hopefully now I have more discretely put forward my argument, which is about money being the primary cause of my concern.
I'll give you a proper reply later, but I saw the original guardian article the other day, and I think it's absolutely ridiculous. Clickbait bull**** that undermines real issues. They shouldn't have had to apologise, but I think once a ****storm has kicked off, apologising can be the only way to stop a story gaining more momentum - I think that that's different to the actual content of a film (after all, Fox didn't pre-empt criticism by not having that poster) There will always be those who shout loudest who get listened to more, at both extremes. Best thing all round, for both sides, is not to assume polar9sation before dismissing get people- this has been a more productive conversation than the lead ins where we were dismissing each other out of hand, hasn't it?
If Finn ends up not being FS cybernetic augmentations might be pretty sick looking. Cyber spine and arm. Then his right eye could glow red and he could wear a sick pair of shades. His new signature catchphrase could be "I'll be back" or "Hasta La Vista baby" or something like that..
Darth Pig & clinteastwoodbradfield while I appreciate the civil debate, it's grown a bit wide of the topic. I'd suggest moving it over to the Rey thread.
If Rey is gonna be related to the skywalkers, then I think she should lose a limb to keep up the tradition. I'm sure she could probably still beat Kylo Ren with one arm anyway.
Dexter Jettster, but it's not going to matter all that much. Just cut down (did I really say that) on his pancake flipping.
Everyone does.... - C3PO arm malfunctions and falls off - Luke cuts Snoke's hand off, Snoke runs away - In the middle of a battle one of the AT AT falls over where Captain Phasma is, her arm gets trapped underneath the broken AT AT, she has to cut off her arm to get free - During training Rey loses her grip on the lightsaber as she was swinging it, the lightsaber goes flying towards Luke and lops of his other hand - Luke in his anger of getting his other arm chopped off has a moment of weakness and briefly lets the darkside take over and he cuts Rey's hand off for revenge - BB-8 jealous that his master and best bud Poe is hanging out with Finn so much rather than him decides to break Finn so his Master will go back to giving him all his attention, late at night BB-8 goes into Finn's room and saws of his hand. - Chewie and Leia get in an argument about the fact she didn't hug him when he really needed it, things get heated and Chewie shoots off Leia's hand with his bowcaster - Hux walks in on Kylo Ren in a, um, compromising position... Kylo gets angry and cuts Hux's hand off - Maz's hand gets bitten off by a unhappy customer - Kylo finally invites the female stormtrooper, who he has a crush on, over to his room. After showing her his shrine to Vader he tries to impress her by showing off his lightsaber skills, he twirls the lightsaber around his hand faster than he has ever done before, trying his best to wow her, he accidently cuts of his hand..... and hers.... - BB-8 jealous that he only gets 99% of the attention from all the organics decides to saw off one of R2D2 legs to break his rival for peoples affection - Poe crashes his x-wing, he drags himself out of the wreckage, he stands up and his body is fine.... but then his hand drops off.... - The ever troublesome Falcon develops another fault, its door comes crashing down and cuts Chewies hand off - BB-8's hand that comes out of his body gets ripped out by an angry groupie after she see's BB-8 being adored on by other females
Bothanspy showed up again on reddit and says that it is Finn that chops Phasma's arm off (out of anger). https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsLe...ore_info_on_episode_viii_scenes_and_maybe_r1/
You know it wouldn't surprise me at all. Like in AOTC where losing a saber became a running joke and many lost sabers in AOTC and ROTS. It may be that a whole more people will lose limbs. Jango - Head Maul- Half his body Anakin- Hand, legs, arms Mace- Arm Dooku- Arms, head C3PO- Arm, arms-legs-head, arm R2D2- Rockets Luke- Hand Wampa- Arm ANH cantina alien- Arm etc, etc. Chances of more chopped limbs. 99.9%
I think that artwork was intended for chewie's injury he suffers that Finn has to help him with. But it was abandoned so that he only gets shot instead. IMHO. Based on the lost limbs of the other movies it could be a main character but it could also be some random character, either humanoid or beast-type. It could also be a droid.
