and the fandom response to Jaxxon, and even the creative response to Jaxxon.

Jaxxon is one of the most absurd things in Star Wars. Still is. He ranks right up there with Jar Jar. He's a green bunny that shoots stuff. Horrible idea, for which the discussion about the how's and why's of his existence have already been talked about.

If he comes up in discussion, it's usually as a joke. Fun to laugh at, but he's never been taken seriously. Even comic book writers and what not laugh at the idea of Jaxxon. Rightfully so, but then it finally hit me. No one, atleast that I've seen, not even the creative minds who write about Star Wars, have....ever......retconned.....JAXXON.

Nobody. Not a single arthur or comic writer has ever taken this joke of a character, and fixed him. Not a single one has taken the time to actually use a little imagination and make Jaxxon workable in the STAR WARS EU.

Shorten the ears. Shorten the teeth. Make him and his people an offshoot of the Cathar people. Less bunny, more big muscled out green bad ass. Easy!!!

Yet instead of fixing him. He remains a joke. A character that could be fun to bring back, and do some stories about with a new look and idea, is thrown in the dust bin. To me it shows a lack of imagination across the board.

He's the Rocket Racoon of Star Wars.

Yes, he's a giant green rabbit but he'll kick your ass.

Yes, he has one fan in Pablo. Not even he has actually revamped the character and actually done something with him worth while.

    Because he doesn't need revamping.

    He's a badass.

The bartender in Legacy is a sign that people are taking this serious.

Other than that, it reminds me of Lucas retconning the Shistavanen out of the Cantina (in the Special Edition) because the creature was a cheap Halloween mask or something.

A long-eared, long-toothed green rabbit isn't any more ridiculous than a species that's literally just a talking snake. Except that unlike the TCW team, Roy Howard and Thomas Chaykin knew their idea was ridiculous and played it up rather than trying to pass it off as something serious. The result was something infinitely more badass than a stupid talking snake.

Actually, it's Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin. But Jaxxon is still a very cool character from the days when the saga was fun adventure, not watching your favorite characters get pummeled in all manner of ways.

Didn't Bucky O'Hare come out very shortly after that Marvel issue? Maybe it inspired somebody.

I don't get why people keep harping on Jaxxon. Have they ever actually read the comics with him? Aside from the fact that he is a large green rabbit hes not all that wacky. Sure theres an occaisional rabbit joke but other then that hes a pretty competent dude.

I think an unwillingness to accept the absurdity of Jaxxon at face value is a bigger sign of a lack of imagination. "There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

We have walking teddy bears, wolves, and (large) bears. Why is a walking rabbit weird?

What bugs me is that when TCW did something everyone says it was stupid, but Marvel is pulp classic. Not really feeling it.

On a related note, wasn't there that skull in that one TCW episode?

The main difference is in how they were presented. Marvel played up the pulp factor with Jaxxon while TCW tried to make their talking snake seriously eerie. In other words, the former knew their idea was stupid while the latter didn't.

I assume you mean Jaxxon's skeletal corpse in the Void episode (Sunny Day In The Void I think was the episode title) It was never officially mentioned in any episode guide or interview, but the corpse the droids find in the crashed space ship wore the same red and yellow suit as Jaxxon and had a lagomorphic skull. Obviously this can't be taken seriously as canon but it was no doubt meant to be Jaxxon

(enh maybe we can retcon it so that the red suit is the most common spacer garb of Coachelle or somethin)

In terms of Morley and the other Anacondans I think they're different enough from earth snakes to stand on their own as a species. Remeber this is the same universe that has aliens that are literally giant otters (thankfully they deveolped their design as time went on though.) and humans with horse heads.

I also don't see anything weird about a talking snake either.

Is it me? Is it the fact I think Star Wars is supposed to fairy-tale-esque? Does the fact I like Once Upon A Time and Fables play a role?

    Really people.

THERE ARE ANIMAL PEOPLE IN STAR WARS.
