Someone yells this about two dozen times during the finale of ROTJ. Can someone please tell me what this means, if anything?

    it bugs me

The chosen One, Anakin Skywalker is the Son of Suns

Considering that Anakin was fathered by the living force; ie, a energy field amid the galaxy, ie stars, he's fittingly refered to as a child of the stars.

If they say it at all, which I don't think they do.

It was a dropped concept from one of the early scripts. It means nothing.

"And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior. And, he shall be known as the 'SON OF THE SUNS" - Journal of the Whills

If you think, son of the suns can explain why Anakin ended up on Tatooine. The two suns. The entire phrase is just part of the Prophecy of the One who will bring Balance to the Force.

"You refer to the prophecy of the one who will bring balance to the Force? You believe it's this...boy?" - Mace Windu, Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Someone can clearly be heard chanting "Son of the Suns" at the end of ROTJ (not the original version). It's definitely there.

All those people that are chanting ?Son of Suns??how the heck do they know that Vader killed the Emperor? For all they know, he was killed when the Death Star was destroyed. Luke is the only person who knew. He probably told Leia, and Han, and they don?t seem to be the gossipy type. How did it get back to Coruscant so fast??

Why would someone shouting "Son of Suns" jubilantly be referring to Anakin? At the end of ROTJ, is it common knowledge on Coruscant that Darth Vader was once Anakin Skywalker, who was at one time a boy on Tatooine? I thought that it was a fairly heavily guarded secret, considering that Leia is pretty shocked when Luke tells her.

"Son of Suns" must be referring to Luke, who is well known at the time as the rebel from Tatooine who destroyed the Death Star, who has now brought down Darth Vader and the Emperor(even though Vader brought down the Emperor, but the masses wouldn't know that right away).

Maybe it's a religious thing in that there is a prophesy of someone toppling an evil regime, and the chanter (correctly) believed the defeat of the Emperor signified the prophesy being fulfilled.

Or maybe Lucas just put it in as a reference to his early script drafts.

I thought the whole chanting of "Son of the Suns" in ROTJ was a rumor.

Anyway, I'll have to agree with jengafett, I always thought they were chanting, "Coruscant!" Then again, we could all be making too much of a big deal out of it and it's just some random screaming from the crowd below. ;)

In theory, Anakin has the title of The Chosen One, and Luke, his son and heir would be Son of the Sun. After all, Luke did spent more time on Tatooine (binary suns) than Anakin.

I'm fairly certain it really is "The Son of Suns", like at the finale of TPM (IIRC). I'm also fairly sure that it isn't necessarily an in-universe thing. Or if it is, it does make sense that some of the public might be privy to the ancient stories of a group that was widespread just a generation before. Remember, the prophecy quoted above doesn't even mention the Force anyway - it's about hope. That's something even the "no match for a good blaster at your side" general public would know/believe.

No one has ever confirmed what they are saying. Until they do, I'll go with the random screaming idea.

Why would GL put in a concept from the early script that he dropped? That makes no sense.

Its just "wishful thinking" rumor that certain people like to cling to. No one says "Son of suns" at the end of ROTJ:DVD edition.

"It's just "wishful thinking" that certain people like to cling to."

I love it when people speak in such absolutes.I hear it clear as a bell, too, and I'm not "clinging" on to anything. I don't give half a rat's rear if it's there or not. That doesn't change the fact that it's exactly what I hear.

And it's unlikely it's just "random chanting". It stands out as loudly as "Wesa Free" does. It's not like the soundtrack was actually recorded in a crowd on Coruscant ;) It must have been put in there specifically by Burtt and his sound engineers.

The Son of Suns is used again in Labyrinth of Evil (the RoTS prequel) in regards to Anakin Skywalker.

He is also called the Hero With No Fear (or something like that) and the Warrior of Infinity.

By the time RoTS starts Anakin's heroics have become very well known throughout the Republic.

As to whether they chant Son of Suns at the end of RoTJ, I have never noticed it.

While showing the celebration on Coruscant,a gong is ringing at the same time someone is shouting "The gong has rung! The son of the suns!"
