Anyone a fan of the original Space Balls? Well, it looks like Mel Brooks is working on another Spaceballs movie!!!

    From comingsoon.net:

    Mel Brooks Writing Spaceballs Sequel
    Source: Ain't-It-Cool-News September 28, 2004

In a Q&A with Playbill magazine, Mel Brooks says that he's currently working on a Spaceballs sequel. Here's the clip from the interview which starts off by talking about the big screen adaptation of The Producers.

Playbill: Will you have a role in it?

MB: It's doubtful, but I'm writing myself back into the Spaceballs sequel that I'm now writing, so you haven't seen the last of my face. Why another Spaceballs? It wouldn't feel right have anyone else play Yoghurt and the first one was the best experience I've had making a movie since Blazing Saddles.

Playbill: When can we expect that?

MB: Best case scenario: a week before the new Star Wars opens. Worst Case Scenario: a year after the new star wars opens.

Stay tuned for more news on this as it comes. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith will be released in theaters on May 19.

    This could be hilarious!

    It's gonna be the bomb!

Mel's last few flicks have been less than his usual level of wackiness, but I am looking forward to this!

What kind of new SW/sci fi references are we hoping to see?

I don't want to see anymore Matrix parodies of any kind. LOL

Maybe in this one he'll take a look at the backstory of Prince Lone Star and Vespa and Dot and such, lol.

I must say it's a strange coincidence that this news is out, I just said the other day to a friend of mine that they mention Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money in the first one and that it'd be cool to see.

    I can't wait.

The Sci-Fi Wire ran an article:

    The Schwartz With Brooks Again

Mel Brooks revealed in a recent interview with Playbill magazine that he is working on a sequel to his 1987 Star Wars spoof, Spaceballs, the Ain't-It-Cool-News Web site reported. "I'm writing myself back into the Spaceballs sequel that I'm now writing, so you haven't seen the last of my face," Brooks said. "Why another Spaceballs? It wouldn't feel right have anyone else play Yoghurt and the first one was the best experience I've had making a movie since Blazing Saddles."

Brooks said that he'd like to have the film in theaters around the same time as George Lucas' upcoming prequel, Star Wars: Episode III?Revenge of the Sith, which opens May 19, 2005. "Best case scenario: a week before the new Star Wars opens," he said. "Worst case scenario: a year after the new Star Wars opens."

...yeah, not having John Candy around will kinda suck..

Wonder how many members of the original cast will be returning?

Ya gotta figure Rick Moranis hasn't really had a real high profile-gig for awhile, so i could definitely see him back...

How could Rick be back? Dark Helmet was banished to the planet of the apes!!!!!!!!!

Mwahahahaha I LOVED the first one! We must all pray for this movie to be done, quickly.

I hope they make fun of other sci-fi movies and not just solely Star Wars.

"Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money" would be the perfect title, for obvious reasons.

It could still work, now they can spoof the PT. Mel Brooks is a genius, he cant make a bad movie.

I'd expect something along the lines of "Spaceballs 2: The Beginning" or something to parody to concept of a prequel- unless it's a true sequel...

Anyways, I'm getting ahead of myself- HOLY FREAKING COW! I'm delighted he's doing this- Spaceballs is probably the funniest and most quotable film I've ever seen (let alone pretty much every coworker I've ever worked with).

We're almost certain to get some kind of riff on "SE" changes and revisions. ("Prepare to CGI!" "CGI'ing sir!").

I just read about this on the JC. But this would rock if they called it the search for more money, if it could still be as funny as the first was and lastly if they could come up with a good excuse for Barf's absence since CGI would suck and we don't have Candy's voice.

If it was a prequel they could have Young Lone Star and Barf when he was a "pupoy".
