Spaceballs

who here saw this movie. i have and i love this movie. anyone else agree.

 

I like it too. There's better SW parodies out there, but Spaceballs never loses its charm.

That always interested me, that they called it the "Schwartz." In German, the word "schwarz" means "black." So if the Schwartz is with you, does that mean you're using the dark side?

IMO, the film is rather unfunny and overdone. It tries to mock Star Wars, but goes off into it's own little story. The opening shot is ridiculously overplayed out

 

Overplayed out - well, that's satire for you. Seeing Star Wars for the first time in theatres, the emergence of the Star Destroyer had quite the effect - "wow. that's huge". Brooks just took that feeling and exaggerated it significantly. The "I had to run, if I walked the movie would be over" was another cute joke regarding it.

The movie did go into it's own story, but I don't think we are meant to think that this was supposed to be a spoof of SW only. It mocked The Wizard of Oz, Planet of the Apes, Alien, Star Trek, and Transformers (possibly others).

 

Well the opening shot, went on far too long after most people got the joke of how it was mimicking the size of the SD.... it goes on about 50 seconds after you get the joke...

I always thought that one of the costumers out there should make a Darth Helmet costume and try to join the 501st with it. That'd be funny.

 

I love the DVD. It was really cheap (under $10 at Wal-Mart), and it's hilarious. The DVD is two-sided (one side is widescreen, the other is pan-and-scan).

 

My final project for my Audio for Video class is replacing all the audio in a scene from Spaceballs. It's pretty fun. "What? You went over my helmet?" I'm going to use the Imperial March at the part where we first see Dark Helmet and he marches through the bridge of Spaceball One.

 

I have the DVD too. You're right it is hilarious. I especially love the menu "Mr. DVD"

 

Oh, I love all the stuff on the DVD where it says like "useless flashing butttons!" "MORE useless flashing buttons!"

 

"What's the matter Colonel Sanders? Chicken?!"

 

i really like the scene where President Skroob is in bed reading 'Don't become me'-by Richard Nixon.

 

There are three scenes I trully love:

1) The ******* family

2) Ludicess speed and flat helmet

3) number 2 in fast forward
