interesting logic. Hardly needs to be a planet-wide mega city to need a public transportation system lol. Might as well say "There's a droid there, and coruscant has droids, So why not Coruscant?" or pretty much any other reason
What Coruscant would need to work, would be some cleverly done shots where an establishing shot actually zooms in and seamlessly finds a character and follows them into an interior; I just don't think we'd buy the "this is the establishing shot. And this interior is on the planet" - we need more.
That could work, sure. Might be a good way to go. But what would be wrong with the standard establishing shot that cuts to an interior? Usually does the job.
I just mean that I think there is a bit of a disconnect now, with savvy viewers who know a digital matte painting (or similar) and know a soundstage, while they can accept rationally "ah, this is where we are", for added realism it's good to show the relation between the establishing shot and the interiors. For example; does it ever really feel like the senate exists within the building we see in Coruscant's establishing shots? For me, no.
Oh, I agree. But in the case of the PT, I think that's due to a range of factors. Namely, too stark a visual disconnect between interiors and exteriors. ETA: For example, there's no problem at all cutting from an exterior of Daenerys' pyramid in season 5 of Game of Thrones, to the interior throne room. There's enough of an aesthetic connection to sell it, without needing to do a zoom in.
A number of reasons I can think of. Here are just two. - Scenes of Senators conspiring with the Rebel Alliance. People who are basically working with Leia on undermining the Imperial system. - In establishing the Empire's imminent operationalization of the Death Star, and move into naked brutality authoritarianism, we could see the "dissolution" of the Senate implemented in...a murderous way. - Scenes with the Emperor in his Coruscanti throne room. As for evidence - given that a new Senator has indeed been cast, I wouldn't rule out a short trip(s) to Coruscant.
I wouldn't mind seeing Coruscant in Rogue One. Well. The Malevolence had a subway so I would'nt be surprised if the Death Star had a subway network, besides the lifts. I even expect it.
A fundamental question folks are trying to figure out. Do our heroes get on board the Death Star or not? I just think it's too tasty of a opportunity to not use it. And story simplification, as has been traditional in Star Wars scripts. Don't use two locations when you can munge them into one.
Having only seen Coruscant in its bustling beauty in "Revenge of The Sith", it's only fair to see the city-planet in Rogue One too... Also, the timeline between ROTS and ANH is perfect for the appearance of Coruscant in R1... Sent from MillenniumFalcon AI using Tapatalk
While these scenes would explain much of the time period and general situation, they don't seem directly related to the plot. So we will have to wait and see. I'm personally more interested in Alderaan because we already know Coruscant pretty well. Alderaan is an important planet for the saga but we know almost nothing about it.
Star Destroyers are a mile long, you know. Without some form of internal transportation, that's quite a bit of walking.
I would love to see Coruscant under Imperial rule. And, by extension, we could see Bail Organa in the Imperial Senate secretly working with the Rebellion. The fact that they brought Genevieve O'Reilly back has me incredibly hopeful for at least a small Jimmy Smits presence.
I always liked the Senate Rotunda. It is still standing at the end of Return of the Jedi as we see it in the Coruscant celebration. I doubt Palpatine would have moved it, being that his plan from the beginning was to do away with the Senate once the Death Star was operational. He kept it for the time being to give people the illusion that they were still living in a democracy. I've always thought Palpatine's path to power, in which power was very slowly transferred from the Senate to him over decades was genius. This gave citizens few reasons to question it as to the average person, life was continuing much as it always had been. I personally am interested in the politics of the galaxy between Revenge of the Sith and the Battle of Yavin. I would like to see this expounded on, within reason of course. Also, was the Emperor the visible face of the Senate during the twenty-year interim between the Imperial Charter and the completion of the Death Star (as he was in the Old Republic), or did he go into seclusion?
Yeah, since the following the production of this project, I've been disappointed to not see Jimmy Smits' name come up. Of course, O'Reilly has Mon Mothma was certainly a surprise in the trailer, so perhaps we will get a brief appearance by Smits. I absolutely hope Coruscant receives screen time in Rogue One.
Yavin IV and the tropical planet could be one in the same. The Yavin scenes in ANH were filmed in Guatemala, which has tropical regions.
Not really possible, as the Empire does not know about the Yavin IV base in A New Hope, and we clearly see Imperial forces on this tropical planet (AT-ATs and Death Troopers). Also, spy photos show that this tropical planet seems to have Imperial-style architecture on it. My guess is that the tropical planet is a secret Imperial military facility that houses the Death Star plans (I base this on the fact that Jyn, in the shot of her running towards the AT-ATs, seems to be carrying a satchel that I assume contain the plans). Jyn's father Mads Mikkelsen, a Death Star chief scientist that either defects from the Empire, or secretly colludes with the Rebel Alliance, gives them the location.
I don't know why, but every time I see this image I feel like it's Coruscant out the window. Most other scenes I'm pretty sure are on the Death Star or a Star Destroyer. Wouldn't mind seeing an evil city planet for a change. There are a lot of things you can do to make cityscape seem ominous.
We see a bit of cityscape in the trailer. Looking like some ancient city. I figure at that moment she thinks she's just been caught by Stormtroopers and bundled into the back of a van. She doesn't know yet who has really captured her.
The cityscape in the trailer is on some backwater planet, not Coruscant. For sure, if Coruscant is in R1 they wouldn't reveal it this early, just like with Vader. I feel they've only shown us very small bits of the film so far.
No hints on any big city-planet in the R1 teaser yet... But let's look at things this way - we only caught a glimpse of a big metropolis-planet in TFA in the form of the doomed Hosnian Prime... So why not bring back the iconic Coruscant for a SW movie then, and show it in greater detail in the full trailer? We have not seen that insanely huge and populated city with the rows and rows of flying vehicles and mega-tall towers since the events of ROTS anyway! Sent from MillenniumFalcon AI using Tapatalk
It's actually the tropical planet.. If you take a look at the scene where she is running towards the AT-AT, Jyn is holding a datapad. This is the same pad she is holding when she is running through the subway. Also the same outfit if that counts for something
