For some reason I am expecting Vader in person (and action), but only a hologram of Sidious. I don't know why but that is just the feeling I get when I think about it.

I'd be fine with a hologram for Palps. Letting Vader do the dirty work while he sits back and chills, ala the CT.

I'd be okay with a hologram too. However, that doesn't explain the Red Guards...

    Exactly.

Could be that Sidious is sitting inside that glowing tube thing in some sort of meditatIon?

Judging by the set, which shares characteristics with Vader's chamber aboard the Executor, I'd say yes.

Yet the overhead elements remind me way too much of the carbon-freezing chamber in Cloud City.

Maybe it's a place where Palpatine gets himself "frozen" from time to time. [face_dunno]

What's clear is that only Sidious is protected by Imperial Guards so it is a bit of a smoking gun.

I don't think that is Sidious bowing before any. He is The Master of the dark side and bows to no one. Also you can tell by the characters posture that it is no way Sidious. My guess still is a Thrawn type character or a new one. I however can't dismiss the idea that that is Snoke bowing before Palps.

I don't know, but I think, for me, that once DV shows up, then any time the rest of the movie he is not on screen I will be thinking/feeling "where is Vader? What's he doing now? It's HIM I want to see." Even though these new characters may have been gaining some momentum by his entrance it would be extremely hard to have Vader not draw all my attention and interest like a magnet.

I know others have posted about this, and, to me I would prefer to have him in very little, at or near the end, for of as a "game over" for the good guys.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the Emperor being inside that frozen bacta-esque chamber. A device that keeps him alive.

I imagine if Sidious appears it's going to be him being disgusted. Telling people the importance of securing those plans, not to fail, and of course at the end, saying you better recover them, or else.

I would love to see old Sheev back again. The best villain of the films and the only one who isn't incompetent as a villain.

Ian McDiarmid is in the top tier of Star Wars actors with Alec Guinness, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. He is particularly good at Shakespeare and other classic works.

Or Palps bowing before Snoke? Would be an interesting twist.

But why would Palpatine need some form of life-sustaining treatment? He's only, what, 75 years old in Rogue One? For a powerful Force user, that's not that old. Sure he LOOKS ancient, but he's not that old.

Maybe due to his extreme darkside dabbling. Perhaps that eats away at his organs and flesh, and he needs to constantly revive himself. There are all sorts of easy explanations for this that people would immediately buy.

You know what is probably in the tube? A death trooper. They are probably more than simple troopers. Maybe they are put in thoses tubes and strengthed with something. More than likely Palpatine is about to open the tubes and unleash the troopers on the rebels.

Honestly, I took one look at Mendelsohn's Admiral, Donnie Yen's blind stick-fighter, and Whitaker's gruff, armored wise man, and I immediately said to myself: "Forget Vader, I want to know who these people are." That's the magic of this trailer, IMO. Such iconic-looking new characters, including a menacing villain that may steal the show.

Vader had the OT. I'd like to see a little of him here and there in Rogue One. But not too much. Bring on the new characters, bring out the OT's minor characters, like Mon Mothma, into more major roles, and keep the main characters of the OT mostly in the shadows. That's the magic recipe for fans, IMO.

I agree about keeping OT main characters to the shadows, and, though it's hard to say until knowing further details about the story, would prefer DV not to be in the film at all. I love the character and all (he's my favorite), but I do believe there is such a thing as over-satirization, which I wanted to communicate in my other post. Also, a little can go a very long way with villains (for example the villain in Se7en, and even more-so with the hunters in Bambi).

I am glad the new characters were able to grab your interest as much as they did in the trailer. Too soon to tell for me, but I want to stay positive and have an open outlook going in.

I don't want this movie to be made for fan magic. I want it to be made so that I can (hopefully) enjoy a good story.

I really meant "for audiences" there, not just fans. And what I described, IMO, helps lay the groundwork for better stories. Shoe-horning in fan favorites where they either don't belong, or would distract from the thrust of the story, is a recipe for poor storytelling.

Maybe, but I'm not a fan of science being able to overcome what a misuse of the Force leads to. If the Dark side truly does deteriorate the body, then I'd rather not have some type of invention or medical treatment being able to reverse that.
