The movie lived up to all the praise. I never warmed to the pre-MCU Spidey movies but loved Tobey and Garfield in this.

This movie also made the wait for Fantastic Four even more excruciating. I can’t wait to see what Watts has in for us.

It’s in the other movies. I took it as an triumphant announcement of confidence about the partnership between Marvel / Disney and Sony.

    1. I fell asleep in the middle
    2. Good to see actual Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) though he was introduced late
    3. I think this film highlights the weakness of comic book films. The Dr. Octopus interactions were great. However, they were really the only interesting villain/hero interactions in the whole film, despite a parade of cameos. None of the others had enough character development to say much about their return besides “Hey it’s that guy!” I wish more of these stories invested time in building its characters.

    It's a shame that...

J.K. Simmons won't play two different versions of Jameson in the same scene. They could compare their anti-Spider Man notes. :p

Talk about perfect casting J.K. Simmons is the only one that can play Jameson in any multiverse lol, when they introduce Miles Morales the thought did cross my mind that Tobey or Garfield should be in that film as the OG spiderman passing the torch.

Into the Spider-Verse did paint a picture that Peter B. Parker was from the Raimi Spidey universe (bad back and all) as shown in the video clip at the 1 minute mark.

The ending was a little confusing, and the tone fluctuated a little too much towards the middle imo, but otherwise than that it was fine.

EDIT: also some of the villain motivations didn’t make much sense.

I almost certainly won’t see this as I have never seen a live action Spider-Man movie to completion so why should I start now. But damn that box office is impressive for Covid.

    super short thought

So it gave insight into what happened with Amazing Spider-Man Garfield ("Peter three!") and original Tobey Spider-Man.

they had Garfield as kind of the loser of the group is a bit of a meta commentary on how his series got cut short and he's just eager to please "I just fought some russian guy in a robot rhino suit!". also apparently he became like Dark Spider-Man in his universe after Gwen died. cuz his final scene in ASM2 "you want to kill me, I'll be right there!" Maybe Amazing Andrew Garfield is still the Spider-Man in the Sony-verse were Venom / Morbius came from? the Dark Universe! Eh.... kinda stretching it.

and Tobey Original mended it up with MJ cuz their final scene in Spider-Man 3 is kinda nebulous as they've been brawling the whole movie but they "made it work"

Another flaw with this movie is that it feels like it’s trying to “over-correct” for the things people didn’t like about Homecoming and FFH (but it’s hard to say why without giving away spoilers).

I thought it was very Eddie/Venom from what we've seen in the first two movies was that he was just hanging out having a drink and trying to wrap his head around the MCU aliens. As for what/when if we get a Venom/Spider-Man showdown, the piece of the symbiote left behind lets Spider-Man Black Suit happen and I'm going to say "billions of light years of hive knowledge across universes" trumps magic.(did Doctor Strange's spell zip across universes and ruin Peter Two and Peter Three's lives?) Maybe MCU Eddie is still Tom Hardy or something or Eddie flips back over, who knows?

The villains motivations are pretty clearly “I don’t want to be sent back to my universe just to die” and “screw you, Spider-Man, you’re not taking my power”. I’m not sure what’s hard to follow about that.

    So it seems the baddies

were basically plucked out of their universes mere seconds before they're going to expire. Although maybe Doc Ock a bit earlier before the chip got fried by Spider-Man so he was still evil and tuned up to 11. Heck maybe it was when he had Spider-Man hanging upside down "Let's see you scurry out of this!"

Anyway I found it kind of annoying that in a lot of pre-MCU superhero movies they would kill off the baddies at the end, especially for Spider-Man for various reasons. He doesn't kill (well "activate instant kill!" aside) and the baddies are so good that they bump them off as done in ones. So the fact that they baddies are refusing to die works for me on a meta-level that, yah, you can't keep killing off Spider-Man baddies at the end!

imho, out of all 6 actors/actresses who played Peter/Maryjane, Kirsten Dunst was the best

I think the question is are these literally the same beings from the films or are they Variants? I think it makes more sense that these are Variants given the fact that they presumably return to their home universe changed back to normal and given a second chance which didn’t happen in the other films.

Maybe by "curing" them, it made them varriants so they pop in in a timeline at the moment they left in their respective movies but things happen differently. Then the TVA shows up and zaps them off for processing.

Or a cured Norman Osborn came back for a second, cured and changed by his experiences in the MCU and then

They started off as the same beings from the films and became variants the second they left their own universes

yes! More please! I would be down for a movie with the two of them. Hell, this movie made me really like Garfield’s Spider-Man. Or at the least give us a Spider-Man 4 with Toby and Dunst !

That's one of those movies you just can't think too much about, but damn was it satisfying. I'd say almost as satisfying as Endgame, and certainly at least as satisfying as Rise of Skywalker was disappointing. 10/10 on the enjoyment scale
