Though I have read Splinter of the Mind's Eye, I do not remember its connection to the Cthulhu Mythos. Can anyone enlighten me?

I have no idea what this could be referring to either.

A colossal statue was seated there against the dark wall. It represented a vaguely humanoid being seated on a carved throne. Leathery wings which might have been vestigial swept out in two awesome arcs to either side of the figure. Enormous claws thrust from feet and arms, the latter clinging to the ends of armrests on the throne. It had no face below slanted, accusing eyes -- only a mass of Medusian, carved tentacles.

Yeah there's definitely a bit more a monster ancient evil vibe to some of the late 70s to early 80s Star Wars comic book stories. Check out Devilworlds for some of that!

Vader's reference to the "immortal gods of the Sith" has been retconned to refer to Typhojem, creator of the Sith species, aka Pomojema, the being that @DigitalMessiah's post refers to.

Yeah, okay, that guy's pretty Cthulhuesque.

I'm familiar with other instances of that kind of thing in early SW - in fact, it's never entirely gone away - but I had no memory of that passage.

It isn't Cthulhuesque -- it is Cthulhu:

"It represented a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind."

    From The Call of Cthulhu.

Since Vader said "gods" plural, maybe the other ones mentioned in The Pandora Effect "The Lady with the Locust Heart" and "The Soulworm" (Typhojem is the Left Handed God) could also be part of the Sith pantheon?

With the Bedlam Spirits maybe being Outer Gods, to their Great Old Ones? (Tilotny was portrayed as Typhojem's mother in an essay that never made it into SW Insider, but was referenced in the Book Of Sith endnotes.)

Love this theory. Perhaps the Five is a bunch of Sith wannabees. Could you explain the relationship between the Outer Gods and the Great Old Ones?

Depends who's writing - but I think the general idea is that the Great Old Ones, while very powerful, are more "sufficiently advanced aliens" whereas the Outer Gods are more along the lines of "forces that define the cosmos".

Cthulhu is a Great Old One - and he is characterized as a high priest of the Outer Gods.

DigitalMessiah, thanks for the quote and for the image. Where in the book is that quote from? Is the statue in the Coway caves? Do the Coway worship it?

Wow, this stuff is really cool. I never knew about all that new Typhojem stuff! :D

Even though it's less likely now with hte ST's on the horizon, I really hope we see more of that someday. [face_praying]
