In RO, Vader knows he is seconds away from the plans - they'd literally just been smuggled aboard. In ANH, he knew the plans were on the Tantive IV, but they could've been hidden anywhere, jettisoned, copied etc, so slashing his way through the crew wouldn't necessarily be of any benefit.

Also Vader saying he had traced the Rebel spies to her, as if he'd done some investigation -nope, more like he personally witnessed her with her hand in the cookie jar.

You may have perked my interest. :) I will check this out over the holidays perhaps. Sounds like a good story, fitting well with existing movies.

Yes & No. As you say it wasn't known that a weakness was present. Now after R1...it still isn't known. All Leia etc know is that the criminal girl with the Imperial father said there was a weakness. As we saw in the meeting, many of the Rebels didn't believe her. In fact even Jyn at one point said we can't afford not to "try" to see if there's a weakness, or something like that. Adding ANH into the mix, we can count Leia as someone who hopes there's a weakness that can be exploited, but doesn't know there is. In addition, Leia talks about whether a weakness can be "found". Since Jyn didn't provide any exact technical details about the weakness & how to trigger it, even if one exists in the plans they still have to find it. It all works & it's still all consistent with ANH IMO.

Then again, ANH also had some peculiar writing in one instance; How did Obi-Wan even have knowledge of Leia's message, which was recorded by R2D2 only a day or two prior and he had never even seen before, yet he says to Luke at the mere mention of it "I seem to have found it". Someone/something during the battle tipped him off? ... Force vision? Some back channel with the rebellion that told him to expect a message from her anyway? Or am i just overlooking something?

As for R1, they could've done a different scenario in order to make it more seamless with the particular wording, which shouldn't have been that difficult. Now you (may) have to twist and turn some things in the script in order to make it less distracting. It would have made more sense had Vader gone after those trying to send the transmission(s) to the Rebel fleet above Scarif instead, then chasing the particular ship that received it (or in this case, escaped with it), armed with less knowledge and acting on a few assumptions, rather than indisputable and contradicting(?) proof that could potentially mess up continuity.

For the sake of making the ending more exciting, they seem to have forgotten (i can't imagine why since anyone claiming to be a SW fan has basically memorized it, and those who don't, can easily watch it or take a quick look at ANH's script), or have willingly set aside a few basic details.

From Vader's perspective, if he sees a mob of rebels ahead of him screaming in desperation at the crew of Tantive IV to open the door and then hand over a data disk with a loud "TAKE IT! TAKE IT!" to boot, how could he not naturally assume that those are the death star plans he is chasing after. What is after all, the point of this entire battle? Why is he even there in the first place? What else could else be of such importance they'd risk their lives for to prevent him from reaching it? How more obvious can it get.

You would have to be pretty dense not to notice what's going on, and i can't particulary imagine that with a character like Vader.

As Vib3s says I found it dumb that Vader didn't just force grab the data disk, I think that they wanted to reach limit with us feeling suspense.

For a moment I thought that Vader just let them slip away like saying: Let them go away...

I also thought that maybe he was gonna try to force grab the entire ship maybe for a few seconds but nah. What he did was then track the ship through the force? That was my main doubt in here, but some of you already said that he can do it and it happened in TPM so I'm fine.

It finally surprised me how close was Vader to Leia, his daughter, and how in a few days everything was going to change for all of them, their destinies were sealed in that moment when he's looking the ship go away. I wonder I he ever felt a connection to Leia? Or maybe that she looks like Padre? After all she's also force sensitive...

Vader tracked the transmission from Scarif to the Profundity, when he and his boarding party arrive on that ship he sees Rebels racing to the Tantive IV with a data tape and he sees them directly handing the data tape to crewmen of the Tantive IV. So in theory he's tracked Rebel spies (Rogue One team) directly to Princess Leia, to Vader's rational he's convinced of the direct link.

On the other hand how does he know they're headed for Tatooine, I never saw any tracking device fitted and once the Tantive IV enters hyperspace it literally disappears from the Imperials? Could a Rebel under torture given away Leia's destination? Who on board knew, Raddus?

Perhaps I can't recall, but are we even sure Vader is aware that the actual plans to the Death Star were stolen? I can't remember. Tarkin said he was going to take care of the base at Scarif, and that Vader would take care of the Rebel Fleet, but did Vader know that the plans were stolen and abroad that ship in the first place? Or was he just there killin' dudes and takin' care of business?

EDIT: I see my question was partially answered above

I apologize if this has already been discussed, but did it seem like the AT/AT's were easily taken down in Rogue One compared to Empire Strikes Back?

Only explanation why he didn't force pull the plans was, despite appearances, Vader actually was in danger from the Rebel soldiers firing and needed to keep concentration on them or risk getting shot. Force users aren't all powerful against an army with blasters. Ask all the Jedi who fell to Order 66.

To those who think threads like this are for people who don't know how to enjoy movies: I agree that if minor inconsistencies prevent you from enjoying a film, you're probably looking at it the wrong way.

But we're mostly nerds here, and pointing out weird things in fiction that appear illogical and coming up with explanations (which may or may not plausibly be intentional on the part of the creators) is a time-honored nerd pastime. It's fun to some of us; I love reading through TV Tropes' Headscratchers pages and contributing both questions and answers when I have them or can come up with them.

Technically they were AT-ACTs which are cargo transports. Not necessarily designed for combat. But since the base was infiltrated it became an "all hands on deck" scenario where the walkers were brought in. Their armor was not as strong at AT-ATs

Not to mention that the Rebels were using ion 'machine guns' in the U-Wings followed up with X-Wings. Presumably both pack more of a punch than snowspeeders.

Plus, even that was hearsay from his daughter.

There is reason for hope but they are still heavily leaning on a leap of faith here. The flaw has to be there, they have to be able to find it in time, and then still execute to exploit that weakness (which even though it was present it was still nearly an impossible thing to actually do anyway).

They knew that is Jyn says based off a hologram that no one else saw that if true was still the statement of a man considered to be a traitor or a best a pawn of the Empire.

A reason to hope? Sure and maybe a good one beyond just looking for something to exploit based on having the design but still not much beyond that without the privileged perspective of knowing what is what that the audience has.

There may be a few inconsistencies here and there, but it's minimal at worst. This movie fits extremely with ANH, in my opinion. I watched both movies back to back and there are moments that make Vader look less than competent in that movie as well. Think about it, Vader says, "I sense something, a presence I have not felt since..." and then immediately walks away. I've never understood that outside of the narrative structure of the film required that he leave. Otherwise, the movie ends right there with the group either captured or dead. Vader should have been a part of the inspection of the Falcon and certainly there should have been more than a 2 man inspection crew with a couple of Stormtroopers left to guard the ship, thus allowing the group to get away and start their adventure aboard the Death Star.

I find this topic very interesting.
Back when George was making I-III we all know of the various inconsistencies that were taken to task. I get it.
There would be comments from fans asking if George even remembered the old movies? And could he not have re-watched them to make sure they connect?
I didn't expect this to happen with the new films. I did expect them to ignore the prequels as much as possible (so my hat's off to JJ and Gareth for the connections they did draw) but I thought that by having Fans make the new films, LFL would avoid these types of topics.
    I was wrong.
Honestly I walked out of Rogue One thrilled, couldn't think of any inconsistencies (I wondered about the Geonosians but ROTS ended with Tarkin overlooking the Death Star so I figured it was his show from that point on).
But here we are in a thread about inconsistencies.
To me, the bigger issue is Rogue One's inconsistencies to its own trailers! :p

My only niggle so far is that the Tantive IV rebels are considered by Vader to be the only link to the Yavin IV base, yet it seems to me that there would be some survivors in the fleet (not least on the Profundity) who would/could be captured for such information.
