Hee! Comparing Vulcan's love of science to humans' love of chocolate--i can relate loving chocolate like I do. Slipstream .. what a unique and intriguing name... it indeed sounds faster and more efficient.

    "More technological advances will be implemented as soon as we have the materials and manpower to build them. For now, I relish teaching about these new possibilities and infinite diversities. "
    Sounds like Spock is finding a true niche and purpose and source of fulfillment professionally. :) The tone here is pure ... him. LOL :* :*

    Jade_eyes: Yes, chocolate and science do make a very fascinating mixture indeed. :D

    Entry Seventeen: Older and Wiser

    If it wasn't for my advanced age, I probably would relish the fact that I am currently the oldest and wisest Vulcan on the New Colony. Being older than your father has both its advantages and disadvantages.

    For one, I now tend to lose a lot less arguments than I did as a child. Granted, our arguments are not necessarily arguments anymore, just differences of opinion. Sarek wants to take a more cautious approach to restoring our civilization, while I would like to see us as we were once before; equals to the humans on Earth.

    He is letting me develop the new technologies that I know from the more advanced time period that I came from, but he does not think that we necessarily need them to survive. I understand his mixed feelings about "cheating" as the humans would call it, but I feel that because of the limited amount of Vulcans available, we need every technological advantage that is available to raise our society up the socialogical ladder faster.

    There is something troubling me though as I decide which advances should come first. What if I make the wrong decision? I do not want the fate of our new colony to be determined solely by what I deem as prudent each technological advance that we as a society implement.

    And, because of these advances, Sarek has decided that we will maintain just a very limited contact with Earth and the other Federation of Planets. He does not want these improvements to be used for destructive purposes, and I agree whole-heartedly with that decision.

    Besides, he and I both think that the fastest way for our population to expand is for us to have just minor contact with our allies. Being at the edge of the galaxy does help provide us some protection, but we are not totally impervious to any known enemies of the Federation. Because of our distance, we at least have time on our side; and it is the one singular advantage that I will exploit to the upmost.

    Very intriguing update showing both sides of the issue very excellently. I see the advantage of staying on the fringes but one doesn't want to become too isolated or disconnected as a society -- that can lead to cultural "inbreeding" and a loss of caring on both sides ... i.e. the Federation forgets you're there and you don't want to be bothered :p

    [face_thinking] The Federation definitely will come out on the short end without the wisdom and clearheaded logic of the Vulcans. ;)

    Or, will the new Vulcan colony become like Pern in McCaffrey's marvy series about dragon riders where they make a unique and wonderful new world? :D [face_dancing]

    o_O

    I do love the comfort level that seems to be between Spock and Sarek. :) :)

    Jade_eyes: It is indeed a balance that the Vulcans will have to weigh the benefits vs. the disadvantages of contact and isolation. :)

    Entry Eighteen: Balancing Right vs. Wrong

    Right vs. Wrong; an interesting concept in the human culture; something that Vulcans have never really experienced; for in our culture it is more Logic vs. Illogic than anything else.

    But, is that similar to right vs. wrong; it is fascinating to think about it. When I talk to my younger father (which seems rather odd sometimes) I find that we often discuss right vs. wrong more than logic vs. illogic.

    When did we change as a culture? Was it when Nero destroyed our homeworld, or perhaps, has it been occurring all along, and I in my struggle for perfection, have merely missed the changes that occurred in our society and in my life.

    It amazes me to ponder the numerous "what if's" that I now have to answer in my teachings to my students at the new Vulcan Science Academy. I tell them that the "what if's" are futile and they should not concern themselves with them; instead strive for the "what is" and make yourself an important part of the eventual outcome.

    Even the smallest contribution serves as the final completion to each task that you do, I teach them, each person is vital to our survival and our future. And them I empart our salutation of "Live long and prosper"; for both yourselves and for Vulcan.

    Delightful and quite philosophical :D The Vulcans have a very intriguing cultural outlook/stance which permeates their personalities and choices, and makes them quite ... a wonderful puzzle to unravel as a friend/lover. That's part of Spock's charm IMHO [face_laugh] [face_love] [face_love]

    Jade_eyes: Yes, indeed the Vulcans are very fascinating and intriguing. And Spock having charm; [face_talk_hand] well maybe the new Spock anyway. :D

    Entry Nineteen:Future Rumages

    The future; something that I now consistently wonder about. Did I make the right choices? Most of the time I did, other times I did not. In the logical teachings that I conduct, I find it slightly irritating to discuss my "feelings" to my students.

    I merely avoid the subject by stating that I feel "well" or "fine". But then, they try to push me into elaborating further and that is when I switch to the logic discussion at hand. Being half-human does bring my "feeling" more into account than I'd ever care to discuss with them or anyone else now for that matter.

    Before, when I was younger, I had an outlet on the Enterprise; my music and Doctor McCoy. The Captain was also a trusted "friend" that I could confide in. Other members of the crew also were beneficial in their helpfulness. But, one in particular I never really considered; Nyota Uhuru.

    What does my other version see in her? What makes humans so compelling that I now regret some of my choices from a long time ago? I think from time to time about what lies in store for the other Spock and his relationships with the crew. I have a tricorder reading of different paths that the Guardian of Forever displayed to me when I was on the planet.

    I sometimes watch the future images that I recorded. I see things in the new Spock's future that I find myself grateful knowing that at least this time some things will be different. Each recording shows both the good and the bad with each different choice that the new Spock will face in the future. I believe that he will make the right choices when it becomes time for him to do so.

    Certain parts of the future seem to repeat no matter what choice he makes. Is it by design that he will redo some of my best and worst moments? Only time will tell, only he can choose which path to follow. I, meanwhile, will visit him again soon.

    I do have something very important that I see myself in the recordings talking repeatedly to him about. Soon, our paths will cross again; but will the result be a good outcome or will the outcome become something that I will regret in the future?

    I enjoyed that immensely!!!! :)

    I'm intrigued by the nature and specifics of those regretted versus would-do-over choices. :D I get a sense very strongly that not pursuing Nyota romantically in his own time is a source of a number of "what-ifs" ;) Her brilliance, warmth, and loveliness are the same in both times, but the life paths for each of them between the two times up to the present were different--though I wouldn't have been too surprised if he'd met her at the Academy, the sparks would've sizzled. [face_dancing]

    I'm also curious what this pivotal convo will be about.

    :D

    I'm convinced that Nyota is and will continue to be a centering/grounding influence :* :* :* :* which will heal a lot of the rough choices and make the others easier to make.

    ~~~~~~
    Thanks for your PM on the different romantic roads taken LOL in Trekdom. :D I believe that the Troi/Riker relationship in TNG (which I followed with delight) took the path it did mainly because of their personalities and issues in the past. Thankfully, Spock and Nyota don't hae such a history of careers etc. seeming to go in different directions, i.e., Riker and Troi's careers early on seemed to take them in different paths and they didn't cement their commitment... and Deanna was set to have an arranged marriage -- though it seemed like Lwaxana married Deanna's father by her own choice. And the Worf/Dax thingy--I never quite could get that... didn't follow DS9 as assiduously though. :p
    Entry Twenty: Space Seeded
    A sleeper ship approaches the Enterprise. The inhabitants of the sleep are in a hibernated state, but some have malfunctioned due to the prolonged state that they have been traveling. The SS Botany Bay is put under tow by the Enterprise as it heads towards Starbase 12. The events unfold as they have before and Khan and his crew along with Lieutenant Marla McGivers are again placed on Ceti Alpha V, but with one exception; I am also there.
    Entry Twenty-One: Collision Course
    Six months later...
    Ceti Alpha VI has exploded causing the orbit of Ceti Alpha V where Khan and his supermen are marooned to shift suddenly. The planet is now constantly engulfed with high winds and everything that had been flourishing is now laid to waste. I am safely in orbit in my shuttlecraft as I now begin to pilot it to safety.
    All of a sudden a shockwave from the destroyed planet sends my shuttlecraft out of control back towards Ceti Alpha V. My instrumentation is damaged and I now have no guidance system. I am on a collision course with the surface below.
    Jade_eyes: This update will get more distressing I'm afraid. [face_worried]
    Entry Twenty-Two: Stranded in Time
    By the most extreme random perchance of events, the shuttlecraft's inertial dampeners kicked in to make my landing less violent than I expected. The hostility of the planet though was unkind to its' engines as they would never be able to operate again. Most of the system's in the shuttlecraft have gone offline and I will have to fix the vital ones first.
    Life support was the first thing that I worked on. The outside climate of the harsh atmosphere violently shifted during the day. At night, I had to shut the door entirely due to the extreme weather conditions that now continuously ravaged the surface. I have now started to marvel at the superior intellect that Khan must have had to survive for as long a time as he did.
    And now, I unfortunately am marooned on Ceti Alpha V as well. The extremity of the planets fluctuations has ruled out the chances of transporting myself off of the planet without another ship in orbit to beam on to. Therefore, I will have to wait for when the USS Reliant comes by for its' testing of the planet. Until then, I am stuck in time.
    Jade_eyes: Well we all know how practical Vulcans can be no matter what the circumstances may be. ;)
    Entry Twenty-Three: The Reliant Arrival
    Stardate 8130.4
    From Log entry by First Officer Pavel Chekov. "Starship Reliant on orbital approach to Ceti Alpha VI in connection with Project Genesis. We are continuing our search for a lifeless planet that will satisfy the requirements of a test site for the Genesis experiments. This is the sixteenth planet we have visited. So far, no success."
    ...
    I have waited for this particular stardate to arrive and finally it is here. I have used my transporter to beam onboard the USS Reliant once it entered orbit. I have set my shuttlecraft to self-destruct so that no evidence of my existence on the planet will be left behind.
    Knowing the outcome of future events has caused me great consternation. I know that I cannot alter the course of events without causing unknown events to occur that may or may not totally alter not only my future but that of my younger self as well.
    I will now wait for the time when the Enterprise will lower the shields on the Reliant so that I can then beam aboard it. Until then, I will take my usual precautions to not be caught or noticed by Khan or his men.
    Entry Twenty-Four: The Logical Choice
    I beam aboard the Enterprise and make my way towards sickbay. Along the way I stop at my younger self's quarters and change into something less noticeable. I also record a message for my younger self. I then enter sickbay and proceed with my preparations.
    Onboard the Reliant, Khan has activated the Genesis device. I immediately head towards the turboshaft where I surprise my younger self. I give my younger version the Vulcan neck pinch and then sling him over my shoulder. I drop him off in my quarters.
    "Remember", I mindmeld with him. I then head towards engineering where a franctic Doctor McCoy is blocking the entrance into the dilithium chamber. He blinks at me in disbelief as he now recognizes what I am trying to do.
    "Are you out of your Vulcan mind?" he queries me. "Doctor, we've been through this once before. It is the only logical way to save the ship," I inform him.
    "But you'll die," he exasperatedly replies before succumbing to my Vulcan neck pinch.
    "Perhaps," I reply. I put on some gloves and enter the chamber. I take off the casing and recalibrate the chamber. The warp reactor comes back online as I am exposed to very high levels of radiation.
    Captain Kirk, Doctor McCoy, and my younger self rush to the outside of the reactor chamber. Kirk looks at me and the younger version of me.
    "Spock," he solemly tells me. "It is logical, Captain," I tell him. "I took the Kobayashi Maru test once before a long time ago and now I have done so again."
    "But, why?" Kirk asked. "Do not grieve," I tell him, "This time I have taken some extra precautions."
    Entry Twenty-Five: The Continuing Voyages
    Doctor McCoy continued to remove the irradiated nanites that I had injected into my system and replace them with new nanites that I had brought along with me. "You're damn lucky that you brought this new medical technology with you Spock," McCoy stated in his usual irritated manner, "Otherwise, we'd be holding a service for you right now."
    "Believe me, Doctor," I started, "I did not want to DIE again."
    "Spock, you cheated, AGAIN!", Kirk exclaimed. "Ah, yes, well, your old tricks do serve as very useful, Captain," I replied eloquently.
    "I still do not understand this tempting of fate," my younger version stated mystifyied. "You will, Spock," I intoned monotonely, "I have left you a little gift that I believe you are now ready for."
    "Ah, the mindmeld and your Katra," the younger Spock replied, "Will you not miss it?"
    "I only gave you a part of my Katra," I explained, "Just enough just in case my plan did not work."
    "Quite logical," the other Spock intoned. "Yes, it was the most illogically logical decision that I have ever made," I imparked.
    Kirk and McCoy smiled and started to chuckle. "Well, next time you play God, give me forewarning," McCoy moaned.
    "I will keep that in mind, Doctor," I stated as I raised my eyebrow.
    ***
    Months later I have rejoined my father on the new Vulcan colony. We continue to prosper as a race but it will indeed take a lot of time to return our race back to what it was before Nero destroyed our world. In the meantime, I have enjoyed the frequent talks that I get to have with my father. Our lives are now more intertwined than they have ever been before and I relish our time together for I know tht soon he and I will enter the stages of our lives where we start the decline towards our deaths.
    But, I do not fear death as I once did before. After experiencing it firsthand once and even many other times when it should have happened, I have grown accustomed to the fate that I have in the universe; one of new voyages and new civilizations; boldly going where no one has gone before.
