Sadly, I don't expect to see the Mid Rim campaign in the comics. Given Ackbar's statement in this issue that the Alliance is in no position to launch a new offensive, I feel like they've gotten into the retreat that we see in Twilight Company. My feeling is that the Mid Rim campaign was sort of going on in the background through the time period of the comics with the loss at Mako-Ta leading to the retreat. There's still a chance to get some stories with the main cast doing stuff in it since months passed off screen while the fleet was being refitted, but I doubt we'll see it in this series. Or I could be totally wrong. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
You're probably right, but I'm not quite sure. We don't fully know where this is in relation to ESB. The Rebellion may have had time to regroup during this arc. And the next one will likely have a Rebellion victory. So that could allow them some breathing room. The Mid Rim Campaign mostly involves infantry. So it's possible that's how they adapt to the loss at Mako-Ta. The Rebellion will need to fight back eventually. A ground campaign seems fitting after their attempts at gertget a fleet led to disaster. I think this is the perfect opportunity to link the comics to both Battlefront and ESB and do a lot to deepen the situation in the film. I agree they probably won't show it, but I think it definitely could be done and hope they do so.
Interesting article on bleeding cool https://www.bleedingcool.com/2019/02/15/big-changes-coming-to-marvels-star-wars-comic-line-for-2019/
The return of the perennial favorite "Star Wars mainline series relaunch and renumbering is imminent" prediction that has been around pretty much since the first #1 came out back in 2015. Not saying it can't or won't happen, but I've heard it often enough that I'll wait for an official announcement before I believe it.
yah this wasn't the best issue, seemed like something that could have been covered in a few panels and not 22 pages. Threepio got his legs back though and it was funny to see that the job was going smoothly until Threepio demanded new legs which is sort of odd but funny. Now he needs a painting job to match the silver one!
I am finally catching up on my comics, having finished this arc finally I gotta say.....feels really weak. Like with Aaron I accepted but was never fully on board with the smaller scale adventure feel. Gillian right away showed great grasp for characterization, continuity, using the resources of the GCW both in universe and as a writer, and just telling some very unique and thrilling stories. But this just felt lacking, the new characters felt like interesting archetypes, but everything moved to fast for the characters with time jumps that I never could fully grasp onto; and yet it also felt slow in terms of moving from point a to point b with what felt like some narrative double beats. This clan was fine I guess, but nothing about them felt worth the excursion, what our characters "learn" does not really add anything new. Frankly in Gillian's run he has seemingly accidentally created two characters with more chemistry with Luke than this love interest, that being Aphra (I don't care what Sana said still my otp) and the Partisan from the Jedha arc. Not to say Luke needed to be with either, simply that it highlights how little I was invested in these new characters who the entire plot essentially banked on us caring about. It felt like a Star Trek ep with an away team crashing and being shown how this idyllic culture is so good, and someone on the crew starts a dull romance the viewer knows will go nowhere, and then our heroes bring about the place's destruction and must leave with things going back to the way they where with little developed. Not a bad one of those, but not a particularly good one either. Maybe I am just more critical cause Gillian has been my golden boy thus far
I agree, that particular arc was pretty week and overstayed its welcome, to say nothing of not really contributing anything to the overall story that wasn't cast off within the opening pages of the next arc. Felt like an original run Marvel one-off issue, stretched out way too long. The Sho-Torun arc was gold, though.
I think Gillen wanted to slow it wayyyyyy down after Hope Dies (not a terrible idea cuz that one is intense) and that's what he did, probably too well, slow it wayyyyy down.
Would have worked better as a shorter mini-arc, maybe 3 or 4 issues. Arcs having to be an specific number of issues to fit trades seems to be harming pacing
Didn't think much of this storyline, it was quite boring. I did however like the artwork in the last issue and as others have mentioned, it was a nice change from all the recent 'tracing'. Hopefully Volume 11 is better.
