I was under the impression that Splinter of the Mind's Eye took place during the Marvel Comics, when Han was seperated from Luke/Leia?

It's definitely titled Allegiance, at least Zahn was talking about it like that was the fixed title when I saw him at a convention a few weeks back. And he emntioned something about Mara's powers in this book, but for the life of me I can't remember what. Oh yeah, and I think he dropped a new species that'll be appearing here.

Given the trend in SQ and OBF, I wonder if Zahn'll be making an effort to connect to the wider EU in Allegiance.

Splinter of the Mind's Eye occurred between 'Star Wars' and 'The Empire Strikes Back'.

I'm sure we will see Doriana or whatever his name was... Zahn loves creating characters in one book and then expounding upon them in another book. Its a very good method for signing the deal for the next book.

Well, I still have to finish XXX's backstory, so I should get signed to a few more deals.

I could imagine that Thrawn has figured out Nom Anor completely by looking at his art and sends someone to kill him. That doesn't happen because Luke kills that person.

I wonder if any of the events in this novel will foreshadow Legacy of the Force? For example, obviously the title of this novel is 'Allegiance'. Being that it is set just after ANH, Han Solo will probably be weighing up his allegiance to the Rebels and his new friends. Family and friendships are tested in LOTF, and as this novel is not set for release until next year - there is ample opportunity in the planning stages of both LOTF and this novel to mirror and foreshadow events.

That's good news, I am looking forward to seeing the cover. I haven't checked out the link yet, by the way, who is the cover artist, and what other work have they done? I also hope that when the cover is released, we get an expanded 'blurb'.

I did as well. Gave those novels a more movie like feel, following the style of the films in their opening. George Lucas has always said that Star Wars is like poetry, with recurring / rhyming stanza's, so it was good to see the novels (some of them) follow in this vein.

And then another author will completely trash same said character.

Hero of Cartao made Doriana a complete tool boy and the precise opposite of what Mara thinks about Doriana's stauts in Vision of the Future. He didn't even know Palpatine was Sidious. [face_laugh]

Well, to be honest, Mara Jade's the same one who felt she was in some sort of unique privileged position.

It's also the same book where the Thrawn worshippers claimed Jade was the next Vader.

Doriana, Jade, and Vader all filled the same role. They were all sort of enforcers, people who Palpatine could call on to do dirty jobs outside the regular chains of command. It's not a statement of relative importance, but the positions they played in service to Palpy.

Zahn himself wrote Hero of Cartao.

    First look is up!

Author Timothy Zahn returns to the Star Wars galaxy next year with his next book, Star Wars: Allegiance. Here's a first look at its cover, by artist John Van Fleet.

In Star Wars: Allegiance, which takes place during the time between Episodes IV and V, Luke Skywalker is still new to all this Jedi business. Han Solo isn't sure how much he's willing to commit to the Rebel Alliance. Princess Leia is trying to help run the Rebellion and wondering why Han is so infuriating. The young Mara Jade is one of the most valued agents of the evil Emperor. And a team of stormtroopers goes rogue, deciding to mete out justice their own way...

Del Rey Books is scheduled to publish this hardcover release on January 30, 2007. Keep checking starwars.com for all the latest in book developments.

Being the Sith Lord Apprentice made Vader quite a bit more than the rest. Sidious hinted at Vader's importance in RotS, though that may have been nullified in Anakin by Mustafar (and thence transferred to Luke, perhaps).

Of course, Zahn rote Hero of Cartao but Doriana was kind of forced into irrelevance by the rest of the EU. There's simply no possible way he could be as important as was implied in Vision of the Future.

It´s a good cover. I like it a lot. Perhaps a kind of continuation of the Clone commando book covers?
