Here's the thing though, I bet the single player campaign will be amazing. I get what you're saying with the "Rebellion-itis", but I think with the way the game is set up, it'll be better. Since you're conquering it planet by planet, All the planets will seem kind of tough at first. Then you get to the middle difficulty planets, and you'll be set for awhile. But I bet there will be one or two planets that will seem impossible no matter how good or huge your army is. You'll come in from hyperspace above Courascant, and there will be dozens of ISD, Acclamators, and hundreds of TIEs. Seriously, I bet there will be planets that will just seem unconquerable, mark my words.

Safe to say there'll be a Clone Wars expansion?

question: Why is the whole map on Tatooine revealed after a certain point? Not that I mind it much, but I want to know why. Is it something special I keep doing by accident and will be able to do in the full game all the time, or is it just another of those "let's make the demo easier" things?

    Hi guys.

I just played the demo, and was kind of surprised, how good the combination of Space, land and intergalactic strategie works out.

My question is, will there be the possibility to build bases and make armies just like in the C&C and the LOTR series? Or will it just be like in the demo?
Will there be a ST Armada style space part, or won't it be possible to build as many units and as many bases as one wants?

    Thanks

From what I read at IGN, you will be able to build bases and make armies just like in other RTS games. This is called Skirmish Mode. And Skirmish Mode is a traditional-style RTS (with resource gathering etc.) that takes place on one planet (with ground/space zone). Up to 8 people can play in this mode (ala Starcraft/Warcraft).

The Galactic Conquest mode is as we've seen and doesn't involve resource gathering. And it's a 1v1 style game.

It's going to be hard to tell about balance until you play the full game. I think in any game that is true to the situatin in the films the Rebel player is a fool to go head to head against the Empire. He has to find other statagies..probaby hit and run.
After playing some more, I find the interface is well designed for computer play, but there is no way this game is going to playable on X Box or Play station unless the interface is "dumbed down" to the point where it really a different game. Consul controllers are simply not designed for this kind of game. Ports of strategy games have been tried...and have failed.
So if you want to play this upgrade your computer...

Use a bunch of Vanguards to hold them off, place Han and Chewie in your actual invasion fleet and use Chewie to hijack the AT-AT.

I recommend that you go to this FAQ and read about what to expect in the full game. I think that base building wont be quite what you want it to be, based on what I've read in this FAQ. I hope I'm wrong because I really would like a more traditional RTS style game in skirmishes. It sounds like BFME is the closing thing that can be compared to what EaW skirmishes will be like, but even then I think that EaW will be more limited in the base building/resource gathering area.

Thanks for the replies. The demo looks awesome and is defineatly a completely new strategie experience. And as it seems that Skirmish mode will feature classic elements, I just can't wait to get the game.

    Btw

Here a cool modification which will let you play on all planets in the demo :)

Does anyone have a copy of the recent dev chat? I'm looking, but I'm not sure who hosted it, so I'm not sure where to look. I just know it happened...

Absolutely. I wonder why they did not make it the CW period in the first place. Would have been much cooler IMO (concerning Galactic Conquest - the Rebels were never capable of conquering the galaxy like this).

    Prequel overkill anyone?

granted, the RotS ships (ARCs, Venators, etc.) didn't have the chance to be heavily featured in games
but the Droid Army was. very heavily.

and post-CW doesn't work that much. I'm sure it works wonderfully for EU (literature), but after the Droids and before the Rebels... the only next-best thing are the Jedi, and that would work a lot better in a few other genres, but not an RTS. To quote Panaka: "We have no army". No opposing army, to be precise ;)

know what would work really really well for a Galactic Conquest campaign? The Yuuzhan Vong invasion [face_mischief]

If the game does well, I can imagine them making a NJO expansion... [face_praying]

I agree. I'm personally bored of the prequel era stuff. Give me post ROTJ material any day. It doesn't necessarily have to be NJO stuff either, though I would certainly welcome such a game. Having a game take place during the Thrawn trilogy timeline would be extremely fun as well.

Of course. There can never be enough Star Destroyers (and, in fact, NJO would still include them) :D

but games and EU is a touchy subject.

I was excited to try this out but once I went through the tutorial and the game, I was not at all impressed. Perhaps I was a bit spoiled with the space combat of Homeworld 2...

Overall, it's fun. The demo does not want me want to get the game unlike HW2. But I'm probably won't get it until it gets in the bargin bin or something (like a sell).

Though, the multiplayer looks really fun...

"Safe to say there'll be a Clone Wars expansion?"

That depends on how the game sells. If it sells well, you can be pretty sure there will be.
I don't think there is enough info in the NJO novels for a RTS game.
What might work for a straight adventure game might not work for a Strategy game.
They would have to pretty much create a lot of stuff for A NJO strategy game and that would bring screams of "non canonical" from the purist.
And , frankly, a LOT more people in the general game playing audience are familiar with the Prequels then the NJO.
And if you have not noticied, opinions on NJO are pretty mixed from the hard core fans anyway.

IMO, that doesn't matter as much as everyone thinks it does. The Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series games would all be considered "non-canonical" by purists, but they did very well. Heck, nearly all Star Wars games are set in the EU.

But they can't make any post RotJ games until I finish making the Heir to the Empire Trilogy of movies for George. Whoops, was that a spoiler?... [face_dancing]

Resource gathering is one of the things that turns me off about most RTS. If there's some behind-the-scenes resource gathering in Galactic Conquest mode, I'm all for that.

I gather that in Skirmish mode -- besides resource gathering -- the player can build the usual fortifications/barracks/factories to keep the war machine going, right? Anyone knows if that's gonna be drastically different from, say, Galactic Battlegrounds/AOE2?

BTW, is it just me or does anyone else agree that the space battles are simply the best -- if not the most fun -- thing about this game?

Haven't downlaoded the demo because I hate playing demos... I just feel they spoil the actual game or something. Anyway I like what I'm reading and I hardly can wait for the game to be out yet. To me it seems we are having another classic Star Wars game. :)

I played the demo and I think it's pretty cool. The cinematic mode is probably my favourite feature. I wish you could zoom in during gameplay, the units look a little tiny to me.

You can zoom in. I assume you have a mouse wheel. Just use it t ozoom in and out. If not, well, then I'm to lazy to figure out that. Just fool around with buttons until you do somethong. Works for me ;)

The key is to hold both mouse buttons and move back and forth if you don't have a wheel.
