I thought he meant that thing where a laser shoots, stays for a second or two and only then makes damage. (isn't that a bit trekkish?)
If it's not that, I'd like to be enlightened, too, then

Since when did Venators have superlasers in them?

I dispute Errant Venture even does!

"Superlaser" probably isn't the right word - it's the steady beam weapon from the SPHA-T walkers (the things that scribbled on that Trade Fed control ship on Geonosis). You see it in the opening scene in ROTS, making a nice big hole in a Seperatist ship. I've always been a big fan of beam weapons, especially since I played Freespace 2, so I'm all for them being used more often.

Ah, I've only ever heard it used to refer to the DS beam.

I would be ecstatic if this game were ported to Mac, but it's unlikely, so I'll probably never see it. :(

I think they are either called homing lasers, POW lasers or composite beams (Spider droid, BC Frigate and gunship-respectivly).

I just wonder why people stoped using them in the OT.

I heard a rumor of minimum specs being
    1 Ghz processor
    Geforce3 videocard or better
    256 MB RAM

    But we'll see eventually...

^^They still need to port this sucker to X-Box like originally mentioned, it looks great.

I may not have enough memory. In swapping from Win 2000 to XP, I somehow swallowed a lot of it. Unless I work out where and how to delete some old window files, but that sort of stuff you don't want to fiddle with.

Defragging and disc clean up have both yielded all the space they can give me. I've simply got 2.5 out of 37 gigs left. And I haven't reinstalled Homeworld 2 from last year. If I did get a new comp with the current market size of 80 gigs, how would I transfer all the harddrive files? I don't want to lose 3yrs worth of game playing . . .

Going by some of the preview space pics and the swift trailer shots, seems like you can rotate the camera angle 360 like Homeworld 2. Yet space battle is on a flat plain. I wonder how that works out . . . All Homeworld 2 battles were on a flat horizontal plane too, ships moving up and down on their own accord. It'll probably work out about right, I think.

    Image 64/97 shows a Vicstar, by the way . . .

My 60GB hard drive I bought a couple of years ago (Western Digital, it was) came with a utility to transfer all my data from one drive to another, losing nothing. Usually though you could just reinstall the games and copy the save games over.

Which I did when I swapped windows this year. But how do transfer game files to another computer, rar?

What game files? Savegames? Just put them on a CD or something then put them back in the correct directory after you reinstall the game.

Good thinking, 99! A potential new comp would surely have a CD-R drive today.

So, about that Empire At War game...

I just saw the second trailer, and goodness gracious me, am I ever going to enjoy that cinematic camera. I recall that one of the main reasons why I enjoyed Armada was because it had one of those in a small screen-popup in the GUI interface. First time I saw one of those Defiant-class ships exiting some green field, enriched with lightning, while being pursued by two Klingon vessels and seeing them exchange phaser fire felt like I was watching a Star Trek episode.

At first, I was kinda dissapointed that it seemed that the camera would only mean rotating around a capital ship or something while it was firing, but then it cuts to a squadron plowing straight into the rebel fleet... good lord, it just looks bloody neat. The camera rotating around a cruiser as other squadrons lay havoc on it, the camera zooming in on the battlefield while something important explodes on a frigate to the right. Aye, definately enjoying it.

Ground battles seemed nice as well, 'tho I hope that there won't be too much relying on hero or Jedi characters. Neat detail that the lightsaber battles are more than just "slashing at each other like madmen till one dies".

Now, some bloody good and fun gameplay in there, and there just might be a serious winner here.

Edit: Hee, and was that a nod to the ANH start with the Star Destroyer flying right over the camera?

I agree. I have a feeling that people who want this have never played a RTS Game, and don't relise there is a damn good reason why RTS games are never ported to consoles...they are impossible to play with a console controller.

I really look forward to this game.

I just hope it also has the conquest capability in a multiplayer mode.

Does anyone think the capital ships look a little small compared the starfighters?

So this game is going to be almost similar to Rebellion then? Aside from the fact that you can now actually land troops and duke it out, this game is just sort of a Rebellion upgraded to VERY niftyness?
