Enough that they'd just do a straight swap, enough to maintain the Americans = good, Brits = bad trope? Pull the other one

 

In the OT the bad guys were a vast, militarily powerful, empire, while the good guys were a group of ragtag rebels on the frontier trying to break away from them.

Surely you must admit, in that context, that the accent difference was designed to evoke certain historical parallels.

In other words, if the bad guys turn out to be Imperial again, I wouldn't be surprised if they'll keep the accent scheme.

 

Can't wait to see who becomes the military character and hope to see the Empire again in some role.

 

we need to see who is signed for more than one picture, that will tell us a lot.

 

Ohh, I don't know. I think Tatooine is a given considering the on location stuff is at Abu Dhabi. In fact, I think that is where we will be reintroduced to Luke. So, yeah considering if Luke has a son he is most likely going to have an american accent.

Frankly though, I don't care really care one way or another.

But seriously he could be a gone droid, he may be my favourite addition to the cast.

I'm not disputing that he'll go there, or that it will have some major focus in the story (and I really hope we don't end up seeing a 'greatest hits' movie - "ATATs! On Tatooine! It's the most Star-Warsy Star Wars EVAH!!"), just that Luke was pretty clear in the movies that it's not where he'd choose to live given the option.

 

why does it make any difference? who decrees what people have to be included or not? i believe the story is the catalyst for who gets cast.

 

And Mark Hamill will be...Luke II?

 

Weren't they right about Driver and somebody else? Also the people listed very well could have auditioned for roles.

 

I'm betting he's the love interest for the Solo daughter a la Fel.

 

Forgive me for assuming that my response would be taken in the context of the thread in it's entirety, where there were clearly posts stating there aren't enough females, or expressing satisfaction that a lead character is something other than a white male. I didn't just make something up and argue a topic that didn't exist, or why would I be in this thread in the first place.

I quoted the first guy because he brought up a point, which I responded to with my opinion based on my observation of previous posts in this thread. I then expounded on my opinion with MORE of my opinion on what I HOPE to see, and what I HOPE didn't happen. Where is the argument?

And again, my ultimate point was I hope this guy is a good actor and good in this role, and I don't care one way or the other if the cast is all white men, or all black women, or all midgets or whatever, because in fiction you can write whatever you want.

You're just trying to divert attention from their new article, "BantuWind In Talks To Join Gosling And Cumberbatch In Star Wars VII".

 

This was always the case. With absolutely no respect to Mark, Harrison or Carrie, can we really expect them to carry a Star Wars film in the same way they did all those years ago? Again, this isn't an attack on their talent or age as such, but let's acknowledge the elephant in the room for a moment; they're different peopel to what they were back then. When you think of it like that, perhaps it's a good thing that they're not the main protagonists otherwise people would just complain that they're not the carbon copies they were expecting. Is there anyone out there complaining that Leonard Nemoy wasn't wielding a phaser in Abrams Trek films?

 

Certainly did not expect Max Von Sydow or Andy Serkis to be cast.

Variety was right about Driver.

 

Mark isn't as old as nemoy. We did see classic trek movies with older actors carrying them.
